Mind/Psi. Need a little help cleaning it up.

Alrightey, decided to plan out a Dominator. Enjoying her so far, even though she's only level six, but I've mapped out a backstory and everything so I doubt I'd ditch her even if I wasn't liking the girl.

I've never played a Dominator before, so I'm a little unsure this build "works". It seems pretty neat to me, but I'm kind of working with the mindset that Dominators are like mini-Blasters with control abilities on the side.

Whether that's true or not I'd rather not debate, but it's the basis I put my build around, heh.

Mini blaster with controls a good way to approach this AT if you are new to it.
I wouldnt slot dominate for damage. Instead use some acc, rech, and hold. I'd try to get hasten in a bit quicker, and the hp recovery from drain psyche is very poor I doubt its worth slotting it. It COULD save you though, so maybe try that slotting and see if you like it. Previously I havent liked the water spout, but I judged it too quickly and now I love it :O) A good power to pick up.
It might be worth trying to squeeze a recharge or 2 into psi dart. As an attack its near useless, but the already fast recharge, low timed animation makes it an excellent dom building power. I also find i miss enough times that I like taking 3 accuracy where i can. Oh and TK thrust, I dont really rate it highly, messmerize, tk, and psychic scream are all better powers imo.

I have Mind/spy too, here my advies

Dominate: its your control power so: 3 hold, 2 acc, 1 rech OR 2 hold, 2 acc, 2 rech.

Metanl Blast: Skip it. Mesmerize is a lot better, it has the same DMG but with a GREAT sleep effect too. Mesmerize can sleep bosses with hit.

Telekinetic Thrust: Skip it. you're a Mind dominator, you have the best control powers. that means you dont need a stupid knockback power

Telekinesis: YOU CANT SKIP THIS!! i know lot of people who roll a Mind ONLY to get this power!!! it's the best!!!
Just learn how use it and enjoy!
i've slotted it with 3 end redux and 1 rech.
its amazing, really, you have to take it.

Total domination: I didnt take it. long recharge, bad accuracy, bad duration. Terrify is a lot better and almost perma recharged so...
its up to you, some people like this power, soem people dont.

Mass Hypnosys: Well, Mind dominator/troller use to pick this... personally, i respecced it out because i think it has his uses only in solo. On a team, its almost impossible to use it well and i can talk again about terrify.
but its not bad, up to you.

I'd say take the 2 damage slots out of Lift and put them either in Hasten as 2 REC, and /or in Psychic Shockwave as a REC. You have a whole secondary full of damaging dealing powers, and I would only guess you slotted it because some mobs have psi resistences in the later game. I still do think you could put them elsewhere.

Another END RED in Shark Skin - it can be very taxing.

Drain Psyche is better with END MODs than HEALs.

As with Mass Hypnosis, it can help at early levels, maybe also if you're fighting higher level mobs as it makes things extremely safe, unless they have some kind of resistence , so it's a matter of preference really.

Damage doesn't look too hot, but I have a sneaky feeling I'll be teaming a great deal anyway, so it's probably not a massive issue by itself.

Really wanted to pump slots into the flight power, but don't feel I can spare them. Oye. Lots of slottage. Never been great when it comes to squishies, heh.

Confuse recharges faster than it actually lasts, out of the box - maybe take slots out of that and put it in fly? Also read it has a 20% Accuracy bonus. So you'd probably only need 1 ACC in it.

In PVE you only need so much duration, there is no point having 40 seconds of duration if the fight lasts 20 seconds or whatever still lives was resistant to it anyway. I base my duration around 20 seconds and go for recharge so i am soon ready for next groups. I also like to not miss (cos its me that may get it) and the last 3 powers have a base acc below normal so i have 3 acc'd them. My primaries are about controls over foes over time and my secondaries are what do the damage.

Hrmm, I've been doing some more reading on the powersets, only to realise that /Psi is bad. Really, really, really bad I mean.



While not a MASSIVE issue by itself, can anyone tell me what levelling is like with it? I'd prefer to deal with my own story arcs and the like, rather than piggy backing on others, heh.

Just a worry that cropped up. I'm keeping Mind/ by no matter what.

Well at 42 my Mind/Psi is my highest level villain (getting anything past 38 is a major achievement for me these days ) and I can honestly say I've never found Psi to be a bad set.

Psi Dart as already pointed out, is incredibly spammable and a great way to build domi. Mind Probe/Subdue both do decent damage. TK Blast and Mental Blast are probably the 2 most skippable powers in the set, although since the animation changes Mental Blast isn't as bad as it once was.

Psychic Scream got me killed the first time I used it . The cone is quite deep and you can easily aggro a second group if you're not careful. The damage isn't anything spectacular, but it does have a very nice -rech on it.

Drain Psyche. What can I say. Absolute gem of a power. Especially since they fixed it to accept acc enhancements. 2 acc / 2 rech / 2 end mod and a few mobs and you can drop the fitness pool altogether. My Dom never had stamina and thanks to this power could quite happily control and blast away to her hearts content while keeping and entire group locked in a corner with TK .

Psi Lance - it's a snipe. Some people love em, some don't. I ended up respeccing out of it as I hardly ever used it.

Psychic Shockwave - it's an AoE, recharges quickly, does decent damage, can disorient and halve recharge on affected mobs. Oh, and it also has one of the highest (if not THE highest) chances of dropping toggles in PvP. Did I mention it was AoE?

While the damage on the set isn't anything amazing, it is one of the least resisted (until the late game anyway) damage types in the game, which means your damage output is pretty consistent no matter what you fight. Bots and Carnies are a pain, as are Nemesis (confuse resistant) but aside from those I don't remember having any problems.

Sometimes, I think the people commenting negatively about /Psionic Assault haven't played one - at least not had a lot experience with it anyway.

It's getting to 38 which is the most difficult, as that is when you get the set defining power. Other Dom secondaries just get better damage, earlier.

Don't forget the debuff - - recharge.

You will also be able to solo, just not as fast as others.

I done a fair amount of soloing on my mind/psi which is now lvl 50, so I know its possible. Things like carnies will be the most difficult to fight.
