Thinking of dabbling with my 1st stalker and wondered what would be a good beginner Primary and Secondary and why.

Also I always play in a duo so what AT would you say would be the best partner for a stalker.

Many Thanks

If it's a PvP build, MA/Regen is the best.

Hmmmm well I've seen missions completed with a Stalker and a Mastermind so a Stalker and a Mastermind would make a good duo.

PvE can be Broad Sword/Katana/Claws.

Good luck with your first Stalker.

Was it if an enemy was held then the stalker has a greater increase in chance of a critical hit landing?

If so, then a Dominator would make quite a sexy duo for a Stalker.

Forgot to add will be mainley PVE.

Nin/Regen for a PvE stalker is rather enjoyable, at least for me.

Tho no matter what primary you pick, it will be a slog to level 26 and a decent attack to use besides that AS

For a duo I'd probably edge in favour of a Mastermind, as the dominator benefits more from a 4+ team more and lacks any team buffs. Something /Poison or /Dark would go with a SR stalker and a Regen would love a /ForceField MM

Whatever you pick, have fun!

I'm a n00b when it comes to Stalkers (the only AT I havent lvled beyond 30 besides Dominators), and I chose Dark Melee and Super Reflexes. It's awesome, in PvE most mobs cant touch me. But I havent tried PvP yet.

SR is simple... just get those auto powers, and DM is fun and the -acc side effect helps me a lot.

I've teamed with MMs, and it's a good duo. While the pets are taking the aggro and distracting the mobs, you AS bosses and are buffed by the MM.

Although a Brute may help you too. He'll get all the aggro before you AS someone, and after that, you can scrap with him.

Hmmmmmmm broad sword ... intresting choice considering it anit a stalker set and MA/REGEN is a substandered set for pvp.

I would say it depends on what your other half is planning to be.
Spine/nin or sr
em/nin or sr
dm/nin or sr
All have there advantages disadvantages I just personal like em/sr late bloomer but will pack a hell of a punch.

I would say regen is good just not my play style.

I had a rather sucessfull duo a while back which was a Nin/Nin Stalker and a Ice/Ice Dom (This was before the Domination buffs). There is a higher chance of Critical Hits landing outside of Hide while a mob is held which comes in handy.

Other duoing combinations that I've tried are Fire/Kin Corruptor with a Claws/SR Stalker. After the /Kin gets SB plus the punch that Fire packs with its DoT side of things you'll fly through most missions.

As far as the Brute/Stalker Duo goes I've always found it to be a bit slow to be honest. There can be a fair whack of downtime in between groups (Power pool selections will of course vary the amount of downtime).

Mastermind/Stalker duos are excellent fun. A /SR Stalker with a /DM Mastermind using Darkest Night is another combination that will fly through alot of missions.

Hope you enjoy your first Stalker, one thing to remember of course is: "I am not a Scrapper, at least not till I either get to level 38 and then I can be a Scrapper for 3 minutes at a time, depending on my Power Pool selection OR my toggles are well slotted and my enhancements are green and that I have a realiable Buffer/Debuffer in the team who can save me when I redline."

Remember that and you'll be just fine.

My Spines/Regen Stalker was very good in a duo with a plant dominator - blasting through Warburg missions like no tomorrow!

At the moment im playing with a spines/sr stalker partner as a fire/rad corruptor which seems a pretty good duo.

Id say anything with SR for pve, im playing a eng/sr at the moment and its great much better than regen imo.

Id say a dom would be a good duo with a stalker or two stalkers double AS

Hmmm, there are quite some possibilities...
As primary powerset I would recommend energy melee, ninja-to or dark melee. Energy melee has high single target damage with disorient, but suffers from looking very silly for a stalker. (Uhm, you won´t notice my pink glowing pom-poms. I am soooo stealthy.) The ninja-to offers a nice variety of good attacks and dark has Touch of Fear... and I just love critting with Midnight Grasp.
What I can not recommend except for purely hit&run-stalking is claws. It is sooooo tiresome against bosses with high lethal resistance and/or regeneration/healing abilities.
The secondaries are all quite effective, although I would not recommend /dark for a first stalker. Ninjutsu is especially nice with those utility powers, good defense and all that.

For a team mate almost anything should do fine, except maybe some corruptors who might draw too much aggro for their own (and the stalker´s) good. Personally I would prefer a team consisting of two stalkers or one stalker and one dominator or MM (with ranged pets).

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Well Ive settled on a defensive sets for my secondary as I'm thinking with the low hit points its best to avoid hits altogether.

How useful are the NIN powers like smoke bomb and caltrops??

Still really unsure on my primary.

I already have a Dark Melee Scrapper at 50 which I really enjoyed and am thinking this may help with the -acc.

What's spines like nobodies mentioned that.

Spines is great as I was teamed with someone with spines/sr from lvl 1 to 32 but as all stalkers it was a slow starter.

Spine/nin will be a good power choice
em/nin will be another good power choice

With dm I didnt really enjoy it as much due to the lack of damage but you should pick what you think suits you best and what you might think your play style is.
If your wanting to lay down serious amounts of damage fast I would recomend em. (for pvp/pve em is good)

Untill Smoke Bomb has extra graphics to tell the player just wth it did/didn't do, its a great way to change cossies (I took it not that long ago and I'll stick with it even tho it seems really, really bad)

Caltrops on the other hand rocks! Stick em down on a corner in an office map or similar, AS something, run to the corner out of sight and regain hide easy then _sprint_ to a target for another crit. Simple (slow maybe) but very effective (except vs flyiers).

Spines is poor to average early but impale at 18 is the saving grace. Pretty good from then on. Doesn't seem to get many extra crits and the lvl 26 attack (same on the claws) seems half bugged with a delay on the dmg/miss info.

Energy Transfer on EM has a nice feeling of 'you know what' you as it can 1 shot things (minions anyway). Nice damage but not as entertaining to play as my NB or Claws (or even the Spines).

I like EM/EA myself, got it 2 33 so far, and he can scrap real good, just looking forward to Overload, got it on a Brute, then I know I'll be able to hold my own.

Def is better than a brute, and with the right powerpools, ie Fitness,Medicine for aid self,Leaping(nice ickle def boost from CJ), and hasten, as well as been able to energy drain and if you choose it conserve power, it gives you a nice all round PvE alt to duo with, as you can scrap to, and have little end probs after lvl 28.

A dom is best to duo with to lock things down for you, but mm's and brutes can do the same by holding the aggro for you, but you'd really need to be with a /dark corr to have the same lvl off duobility(due to fearsome stare i think) or a /rad with choking cloud to have the same lvl of duobility.

All I can say on the subject, haven't tried any of the othe Stalker sets.

Good Luck, and HAVE FUN, I did with mine.

Think I will go EM/NIN

Whats good slotting for hide?

Posted

Very, very far down the line x3 Def.

I wouldn't even consider slotting it untill the tier 9 secondary power was 6 slotted

Posted

Hide I would def consider slotting before 9 teir secondary power givein you a nice 58% defense against AOE.

Plus later down the line you can afford to 4 slot your powers with an end-reductions.

As in when your out of hide...well still have around 30%+ and well most of the time you will gib most targets.

Still worth slotting
