Decorative...useless?

I was checking our RP groups base today, trying to figure out how to make it work for roleplaying purposes and I suddenly realised something. What exactly is the use in buying a studio (3x3 decorative) over an Oversight Center (3x3 control). The studio is three times as expensive, yet they can both house infinite decorative items AND the oversight center can also have control items in it.

Am I missing something here or are the smaller decorative rooms simply useless and far too expensive?

If I remember correctly, you can't have an anchor in the Oversight Center, but you can in the Studio.
if you're not planning on doing any base raids, or already have enough anchors, then there's no reason to buy a Studio - when I wanted a bigger meeting room, I just bought the Oversight center, and will buy another when I expand my garden room

Alrighty thanks for the reply. ^^
I was correct then, it's useless. xD Only good for wasting prestige. ^^

Also, there didn't used to BE an oversight center when bases launched.

Hmmm. Perhaps it's time for them to update the prices on decorative then. And also add new sizes for decorative rooms perhaps. A 2x2 for example. =) Silly that I have to use a control room for that. (Well, it's cheaper anyways, but hey. Not the point.)

I'm no Sherlock Holmes but surely the giveaway was in its description, 'Decorative', ergo, it has no other function other than decorative.

The oversight centre was introduced to get smaller SG's functional faster and is under the 'Control' tab for..... yup, you guessed it, Control.

It is pretty damn silly that there's that big of a cost difference, even in this game where an awfull lot of it doesn't make sense.

They just forgot to check how much sense the prices of the other rooms make in comparison..

The whole decorative items thing should be changed, they should have them for a reduced cost..
Eg.
For a tech wall lamp its like 500..
For a tech floor lamp its 100..
For a tech roof lamp its 100..

So why is it more expensive to have a light on the wall? Surely the roof one would be the cheapest?

Plus I agree with making the 3x3 Decorative room cheaper...It'll be better..

there is a tactical use for decorations if you get enough and make you base look REAL pretty you can distract the enemy and while their back is turned looking at your modern art you can stab 'm in the back

I'd be up for all decorative items to be no more than double-digit cost, and 100 at maximum for special decorative stuff like the hologrammatic meeting tables.

No need to impose real costs for them, when they don't do much and would means less "bare bones" bases all round.

iirc there's a tactical aspect to having a lot of rooms, or rather doorways.
That was thought to be the original reasoning behind their costs (along with being a room needing to cost something)

So, not entirely useless from a base raiding perspective

From a decorative perspective, it allows for a bigger room without having to pay 400k or something for a big version of a functional room.

Also, decorative items have a tactical function in base raiding: cover
Alright, not everything, but still.

I've seen a base where it was turned in to a veritable maze, and even managed to obscure an entire doorway... though I doubt that would have any effect in a raid, the starting points being at random in the doorways iirc...

I agree whole heartedly with this... I have a functional base that I'm rather proud of (being supported by mostly 3 players) with 4 teleporters, medi room and storeage and such... I think it's all in all decorated with well over 50k to make it more functional: Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, lounge, library, office and even a garden.

That's a lot, for windowdressing...
