i see no role that domi alone could have to make them more "appealing" when building a team for a GM

but for winter lord i did nothing but use heal other and drain psyché to debuff him a little.
all my controle was useless and was aggroing his attention to much : /

There's no point to get a dominator to fight AV or GM.
They cant control GM/AV, and they're dmg totally sucks until domination is up but when you can finally activate domination you'll discover you're dmg is decent, but still not good as brutes/stalkers/coppupters ones...

Exaclty. I have to agree.
If you wanna fight a GM, and there arent brutes, stalkers, MM or Corrupters available, you can decide if get dominators or go to sleep.
You know, dominators are better than nothing, but sleeping is better than dominators.
Its a chain.
Persnally I don't see what the big deal is as with your attacks depending on what powersets you chose you cna od loads of damage and debuffing. For example I am grav/psi atm and not many can resist or defend against psionics (not sure with AVs or GMs) also psi can build up domination fast then whack out thier mind probe, snipe and thier nuke which recharges like every 10 seconds. Also psionics debuffs recharge so that hleps alot aswell.
This is just like asking the role of a stalker when it comes to GMs and AVs now that I think about it...

GMs aside atm...
My Plant/Thorns Dominator has felt anything but useless in the recent weeks I've been levelling 40 towards 50. I hope my regular team mates think he's pretty useful too .
I trio'd a bunch of AV level charcters through our arcs the other night. My Dom', a Fire/Dark Corruptor and a Fire/Kin'. I felt it was a good set we had between us. The buffs and debuffs from the Corruptors were great, but I cetainly didn't feel I wasn't pulling my weight or making an less of a contribution. I had them locked down the whole of anytime the purple triangles were down & I had a bunch of knockdowns, slows and immobs too, and I definitely felt a played a big role in managing the aggro from the AV.
There's 3, 4 of use levelling through the high levels now. All squishies and we've taken every AV that's come our way.
I've picked Poisonous Ray from Black Scorpions set as it compliments Thorny Assault nicely and it kicks out a noticeable debuff I'm able to contribute to the team. There's loads of secondary effects Dominators can play to that add value to a team or a fight.
My Dom' also has brilliant crowd control for any instances where an AV character is sitting right in a large mob or two which happens a lot as we run the higher rep's for missions.
Not sure Indigo runs purple triangles at all. I had her perma held the entire fight in a trio, whilst my teamates cleared the /Rad Warden and his crony mob she was lurking in.
When Recluse summoned his Bane Spiders, I confused them.
All in all I feel my Dom' brings far more to an AV fight than my Scrapper ever does, and I've had a far better time levelling through EBs, AVs and Heros than my Brute ever had.
I think Mighty has said it all for me, it helps to not have to stop between doing groups on the run up before an AV who has arrows down as domination drops, its nice to have domination ready and arrows down. As far as GMs go i have never built up domination prior to one so i am more of an aggro magnet than controller. Soloing at times on certain missions i am thinking "hang on this is better than my brute" in the way my dom deals with EBs especially. i was holding +2 to me AVs on rsf today with my corrupters holds so i am like rar whatll it be like when my dom gets here.

Yup, and you're plant (slow animating hold) and thorns (no power boost). Life is even better for other doms.
My ice/nrj, without external buffs, can perma-hold up to a +1 AV through triangles for around 3mn - 3mn30 if I'm using my accolades. Ice/ is as slow as Plant/ as far as their ST hold activation time goes, a fire or mind dom would do better.
Failing that, the ST immob does an awesome job at keeping them out of melee range and easy to kite.
maybe i am a bad one but, what help provide a domi against one of those thing?
i mean a ice thorn pr grav one can maybe a little bit slow it but ..
what else?
