Union ones tend to be more dispersed than the Defiant ones, as we have no prominent player who organises them, whereas they tend to follow the plans set out by Xanthus over there. (Who does a good job most of the time).
Keep your eye out on the boards, as I expect one will probably crop up nearer to christmas.
Is this the only way to get hold of the special enchancements?
At the moment, it's the only 'proper' way to get them. You can however, trade for them with another player.
A Task Force similar to the Recluse Strike Force on CoV is rumoured to be under development, meaning Hami-O's should be available for completing that, rather than taking down Hamidon.

That and too many people [censored] and complain and moan and try to take over.. and moan and [censored] and complain.. etcetcetc
therefore most raids recently tend to be private raids, unannounced on forums

You dont have to be prominent.
Most of the people who turn up turn up for the hami raid dont have a clue who the raid leader is.
Most raid leaders have their heads bashing against the wall with the amount of uncooperative, poor listeners in the raid.
Most raid leaders dont try again the following week which is not offering more opportunity for people to get better and better as a community on it.
People who put their own levelling first wont start coming until they see hamidon being done sucessfully and as easily in the short time it can be made possible, because its boring to them and often a waste of time. These people arent helping but may join the bandwagon once we dont need them too anyway so they can start saving on slots.
I feel the halloween event has been great, union players have overall been being very helpful and cooperative to one another which is a good sign.

Never been to a Union raid since my highest is lvl 24 there but on Defiant we've been running with Xanthus and the recent addition of White Magus as raidleaders for, roughly, the last 10 raids.
The different teamleaders are more or less always the same aswell.
We've written a guide which we urge people to read (of course not everyone does).
Before the raid starts the leader(s) will explain to people the different phases and whos responsible for what.
Just to mention an example: The last raid we had, when White Magus called for everyone out of the bubble...within 30 seconds everyone was at Cowards Hill!! We we're flabbergasted on teamspeak to say the least

I think what takes the longest on union is getting started. The last raid i went to, it seemed to take ages to get everyone organised and the PA drop team was just about the last to enter the Hive.
Well you can get HOalikes from Sewer and Eden trials as well

Eden Trial yes.. but I've never noticed Hami-O like enhancements from the Sewer Trial.

I'd personally want the
Hydra - "Graviton Particles" that's got alot of bonuses (8 slotting abilities, in fact)
