Shadow Fall: Worth it?
Shadow fall gives Psi resistance.
'nuff said.
Shadow fall's stealth doesn't supress. This is great when fightiong close to another group of mobs. Alos, you give eneryone in the radious damage riesistance - Energy, neg energy and spi are not exactly uncommon in CoV.
It does supress when you klick a blinkie, though.
Still the power is a defensive one. If you're a blaster wannabe...
I'm not sure how much stealth will assist me when I'm laying about me with fireballs and as many rains of fire as I can squeeze from the heavens...
I'm also not that interested in resistance that has no lethal/smash component. It's that I have to worry about, as Tough on my Firetank proved to me.
My defence will consist of aim debuffs and slow-motion enemy panic, and faceplanting.
I'll also desperately need every drop of endurance I can get, so, no. Bye Bye Shadow Fall I think.

That's great, but you're no Tank - you're a Corruptor, and Energy/Psi damage is a surprisingly common damage type in CoV: Arachnos, Longbow, Carnies, CoT, and many AVs will have you hankering after every scrap of En/Neg/Psi res you can muster.

[/ QUOTE ]Now that's just silly. It gives protection against energy, neg en and psi, all pretty common in CoV. Also, it gives that to teammates close to you, and those are resistances most resistance sets lack, which means brutes (especially invul) will love you.

almost 30% psi res.

Syn and MaX are right. Being able to not only resist Psi but bestow that power on other people will make many players fall at your feet and proclame you their saviour.
Add that to the protection from being terrorised (which those pesky Longbown Ill/ Wardens love to do with their spectral terrors in higher levels) that SF gives, and people will flock to you as if you were the kid who had all the Transformers, including Megatron, so they could play with them at your house, because their own parents refused to buy them anything bigger than Bumblebee, even when they had managed to persuade their friends to buy them Protectobots for their birthday, and they only needed one more to build Defensor. Megatron was obviously a total no-no for their mothers, as he looked like a gun, and thus would corrupt their fragile little mind.

Bah. I hate it when people talk sense.
I think I've traced my dislike of Shadow Fall to my current end-starved Sonic Def main, who is constantly ripping her hair out trying to get people to stay in the damned (so helpfully invisible) bubble, while copping their aggro as they run through spawns with your PBAoE debuff on them, getting her the Alpha strike which drops her bubble due to the synchronised mez. Yes, she's having.. fun.. right now.
My Fire/Dark seems to be her dark mirror. Everything she is not, including being considerate to people who won't stick together for the damned aura buffs whose effects they can't see, and don't appreciate. Even my Howling Twilight is slotted for offense. Basically she's cruel, and will squeeze respect out of them as they *cling* to her for her PBAoE heals!!
I'm also in dire need of the powerslot so she can test whirlwind on people desperately trying to leave rain of fire/tarpatch. In her spare time she also pulls the legs off puppies.
I'll leave Shadow Fall until late, and see how much I miss it.

All the things I was going to mention about Shadow Fall have already been said, so my post boils down to this:
DC, I feel your pain brother
PS: This post was brought to you in Stella Vision
Shadow Fall makes you and everyone around you turn semi-transparent. This makes you all look RIDICULOUS. And if, like me, you take plenty of screenshots, you'll find that powers like this and Steamy Mist utterly ruin it.
Anything that makes you have *less fun*, like ruining the look of your character, should be entered into with extreme caution.
I like being semi-transparent. It gives a nice ghostly effect. I just switch it off if I want a proper screenie. But it does suit my chars that have it & Steamy, it fits their concepts.
For my money Shadowfall is even better than Steamy Mist, just for the types it offers resistance against.
The Stealth is useful for getting around town too, for Superjump and TP its very handy having a bit of stealth in case you land beside someone nasty.
If its Shadowfall or Whirlwind I'd certainly pick Shadowfall.

Clearly this is a lie, since we all know sonic defenders/trollers don't exist

I'm also playing a fire/dark but don't think I would consider Whirlwind with some many good powers to take already. YMMV

Get it quickly! You're already missing it!

ShadowFall is very much worth it. It provides two of the three only unique things a /dark corrupter/MM can bring to a team - you can give psychic resist and fear protection to teammates, and with HT you can mass resurrect. It makes me feel a bit more useful on LRSFs (where a /dark is usually perceived as at the bottom of the list of needed powersets among the corruptor secondaries).
The psi resist is great against Carnies, Arachnos, or on the LRSF against Malaise, Numina, Swan and Sister Psyche - only /elec and /dark brutes/stalkers have psi resist in their own powersets (and they cant cap it without ShadowFall). The fear protection is handy against Malaise, Carnie Illusionists and Longbow Illusion Wardens when they drop a Spectral Terror, which can otherwise wreak havoc among a team - I believe only /stone and /dark brutes/stalkers and /ninjitsu stalkers get fear resist otherwise.
You don't throw away useful things like that. Definitely take ShadowFall at some point, but I guess you could leave it quite late. Me, I took it at L18, quickly slotted it up with 3 damage resist and 1 end redux post-L22, never regretted it, and would never entertain the idea of dropping it.
Desperately trying to cram more in a Fire/Dark.
I initially chose Shadow fall because stacking -perception with superspeed would be damned handy, and it should stack with Ghost Widow's shield, and everyone seems to choose it.
BUT...
I found only -NegRes stacks, big whoop, and superspeed is good enough for MOST stealthing anyway, and the defence I thought I gained has turned out to be 2.5%.
Is it just me or is Shadow Fall utter pants for a psychopathic pyromaniac with the rapid heals of Twilight Grasp?
