Best Secondary for a Brute

Greetings guys and gals,

I want to roll a brute but was hesitating choosing my secondary power. I want a power with the most powerful resistance to disorient, knockdown, slow, hold..etc effects. I used to have a regen scrapper, I LOVED integration and I can't play without a power identical to it. I know most of the brutes get some stat resist toggle but some doesnt work on all effects (like knockdowns/knockbacks and you have to get acrobat).

So, can you guys help me by telling me which brute secondary works great against effects?

Energy Aura's Entropy Shield is nice mez protection. I was gonna' suggest Elec when I saw this post, then I read you wanted good mez protection.

Anyway, Entropy Shield is great mez protection IMHO, it also has teleport res, it can come in handy I can tall ya'!!

So, hope this helps.

Hey Grav,

Thanks for the info. Just one question, does Mez Protection include Knockdown, Hold, Slow too?

Integration doesnt give slow resistance or tp foe protection iirc. Very few things in game does. Anyway, one definitely good one is Unyielding from invulnerability. It and entropy shield are propably best all-rounder status protections.

Hmm.. Entropy shield - resistance to: disorient, hold, sleep, immobilize, tp foe, knockback, knockup, repel, defense debuffs.

Unyielding - resistance to: knockback, knockup, repel, disorient, hold, sleep, immobilize. And of course small resistance to all damage but psionic.

Invul and EA are your best choices for good mez prot, and also well rounded sets from defensive PoV IMO.

Ok I created a character to test the first few levels energy secondary power. While reading the powers I think this is the secondary I want to get. As I can see it has a weakness to Psionic (most secondaries has this problem too) but I'm not a "tank" so I don't care.

The only problem with this power is, lack of healing. So, either I got to stack on inspires or find a nice primary that can heal (like dark melee?). But I kind of liked the Energy primary too.

Thanks guys for the help!

Get aid self from medicine, very good self heal.

Yes, most EA Brutes don't take the auto resistances, and instead take Aid Self from the Medicine(However it's spelt ) pool. Aid self has saved my life many a time, I can tell ya'!!

I wish you luck with your Brute, EM is a good primary, good power and when stacked can stun nearly anything.

When I made my 2nd brute, after the first being /elec, I really wanted to choose a different 2ndary. I dont think I seriously considered stone, but I was interested in /inv. One of the most prolific "effects" past lv 40 is end drain and if u read a few posts about /inv u will see some people saying its unplayable with all the sappers and carnies.

There are alot of positives about /inv but that 1 negative is just something that tipped the balance for me. However, Ive not noticed any end drain in PvP; so its purely from a PvE perspective. The no1 thing I look for is resistance based in a brute 2ndary.

Id say em/inv would be good for PvP, I wouldnt take any defence based power choices but invincability has 20% ToHit which could allow u to slot EM with 2 acc and be viable for PvP. If u can deal with PvE end drain, could be a nice combo. If I were going to make another brute Id go with that too.

Dark armour does fit the description of what u asked for, good resistances to both toxic and Psi, and with combat jumping, acro (which u need for KB protection), very hard to mez (although TP is king of mez resist IMO); its lv 38 power is a rez though which is uninspiring. Also has the bonus of a +perception which might be useful stacked with tactics at getting the drop on stalkers.

What's TP?

Teleport. U can move virtually unrestricted while immobilized using TP, only -fly makes u lose the hover better the TPs.

The only gotcha I've had with EA (especially combined with energy melee) is that it's an absolute pig pre-stamina/SO's as far as endurance is concerned, to the point where it's incredibly frustrating to play, especially if you don't have the inf to keep your enhancements up to date. I only perservere at all because, from the Rv testing, it rocks hard at high levels, once you get the endurance powers.

Oh, and pre-SO's, your defenses are somewhat awful.
