[u]Villain costume competition - Sunday 8th October at 3pm GMT[u]

Well it's been a little while since the last costume competition on Defiant. So, as we are a particularly community-minded band of criminals here at the Seventh Cabal headquarters (not to mention shamelessly self-promoting ) we thought we would organise one.

When: Sunday 8th October
Time: 3pm UK (4pm CET)

Location: Mercy Island. Gather around Kalinda / Arbiter Diaz at the Fort Darwin Arachnos base.

How to enter: Just turn up!

The prize pot will be 4 million infamy:

1st prize: 2 million infamy
2nd prize: 1 million infamy
3rd prize: 500,000 infamy

plus an additional 4th bonus or consolation prize of 500,000 infamy for anything we think is particularly weird or funny - or for anything else that tickles the fancy of the judges.

Our Seventh Cabal judges will be considering the style, the originality/inventiveness, the concept and, of course, the evilness of your creations.

All toons from level 1 up are welcome. So if you have a costume that you think stands out from the crowd then come on down!

Doh! Any chance we could make this 1700 or 1800 UK time? Some of us have due diligence to visit the in-laws this weekend

Sorry mate - this time is fixed now, we've been advertising it to people already!

Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Guys, you say one of the criteria was concept but gave the two first place rewards to two characters who had spelled their names wrong (the reason for which wasn't explained in the info) and one of them didn't even have an info.

Not being a sore loser here, I think Siege Engine should have won the top prize because he had all the criteria ticked, I'm just surprised at the two people you picked for the win.

Heck, the guy playing the second prize winner came on on another character afterwards and said his own creation was rubbish.

Anyway, you got a good turn out so congrats on that.

Hehe, that's why you gotta love costume competitions - nearly everyone there has a different opinion than the judges, and the end of the competition is only the beginning of prolonged discussions about the verdict

I also think Siege Engine had the best costume of the 3 winners, but oh well... the winner's outfit was quite good too, and it's up to the organisors if char name should influence the decision or not. *shrugs*

I was sure Siege Engine would win! It was a very good costume, and original. I thought he should have won.

Firechill, I knew you would get the 4th prize. When they explained it, I Just thought "the pink yellow guy gotta be there!"

And tbh, I thought the 1st prize was unoriginal.

Oh well, cheers

Hiya! Siege Engine here . It was a fun costume competition, friendly and certainly one of the best turnouts I've seen for a costume comp. The dosh should help siege out with those early days .
I took some piccy's:

Nails are bitten, seams are straightened
OK I admit it, I had a friend upstairs making sure I was in the best light .

Hi all,

Well the turn-out was really excellent - far more people than we expected which was great to see.

With so many to look at, the judging was hectic and not easy. The judges (two of my SG colleagues) picked the ones that appealed to them most, which of course is always going to be a matter of individual judgement :-)

Anyway gratz to the winners...the results were:

Poison Barb: 1st Prize
Rikkti Thorn: 2nd Prize
Siege Engine: 3rd Prize

Pyrechill: the bonus prize for being the most freaky!

We posted our screenies here: Gallery

And a big thanks to all who turned up for this. We enjoyed running it!

Hey guys Pyrechill here

suffered the pain of losing my connection as the judging started but being labled as 'freaky' makes up for that!

Was nice to see soo many villains having some fashionable (and of course, evil) fun.

A good idea well organised guys!

Nope, it was Posion Barb. I created Poison Barb after the competition to make a point...

(but have deleted it now, so if Posion Barb wants the right name it might still be free...

Ah well - lots of people seemed to have fun and that was really the whole point for our SG.
And no - we didnt check for spelling as toon names can be off for a variety of reasons AND this was a costume contest, so names didnt come into consideration.

Of course you are welcome to disagree with our choices or even the way it was organized or even do your own event where it is done according to your own specific wishes.
I for one just got a whole slew of entutiastic tells after the event as well as a lot of chatter from the people who showed up telling me that people had fun

I had great fun too, so thanks to the organisers for setting this up. I haven't seen so many people in one spot villain-side... well, ever

My point was that, in a game of this nature, one letter's difference can mean you're announcing a different, possibly existing, toon instead of the one you actually mean. I mention it because it seemed a considerable oversight in what was otherwise the most organised costume competition I've seen.

It's a natural mistake though, since the human brain will often automatically translate mis-spellings to the nearest correct word, but could have been avoided by using a "first prize goes to $target" bind to be on the safe side, which is what I'll do when I have the influence/infamy to arrange my own competitions.

Choosing winners is obvioualy a matter of personal taste, I gave up when I saw Siege Engine personally and thought he should have been placed higher...

Good idea with a $target bind for announcing - that's in the idea book for the next event

As for the winning that was a negotiation deal - Kairon and I had different bids for each and we had to do some quick compromising - when 40+ people are waiting, we dont want them to get impatient
