Containment question
The mob must actually be held, immobilised, disoriented or slept when you attack it for containment damage to take place. So if you were trying to hold a boss, you would need to stack 2 holds on him.
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
does it let you know when you have got containment or does it just implicitly up the damage? I have just started using a controller and have trouble figuring out if I have containment or not.
You will see damage figures appearing twice when you have Containment (or just check on the combat log).

I've found creating a new tab with just Damage Inflicted helps here too. You should easily be able to see if you are Containing enemies and thus inflicting extra damage here.
I use it to see how much damage I'm throwing out and also how effective things like +Dmg or -DmgResist powers are in combat. Really handy for my Kin/Elec and my Dark/Sonics defenders too.

Question - do you need to have personally held/slept/mezzed the mob or is any mezzed mob counted as Contained?

Nope, the status effect can come from any source, even a confused NPC

Indeed. Its one of the reasons all-controller teams become so nasty, one does a mass-containment power and all benefit from it.
A */Dark Defender is a great teamie for a Controller too, for the same reasons (Tentacles & Dark Pit).
Indeed. Also why Sing is such a great pet

Very happy with my new sparkly ball of DOOM following me around. It certainly seems to be able to take a lot more punishment than imps or frosties, maybe on a par with the Stone. Not sure whether it dishes out as much, but it really does help with lockdowns

I'm upping an old thread, but some ideas on Containment would be much appreciated here.
I have just rolled out a fire/rad controller and seen a bit of containment at work, though I'm curious about some aspects.
Imagine I immobilize a mob. A subsequent application of the same power benefits from containment? I need ideas especially with DoTs damage.
I have observed that the second ring of fire on a same mob seems to spawn the "double damage indicator". Or is it just the damage from the first plus the damage from the second? Do a third application of the same power (if imm/hold/... duration is enough) means I can have two powers doubling their damage plus the firs application?
Or does containment work only if you apply a DIFFERENT power than the one creating the status?
Second: in pvp containment works the same? This means a Clear Mind or other mez protection or even a Combat Jumping against Immobilize will make useless the containment until these buffs are removed?
If you immobilize a mob and then use the same power again, that power will benefit from containment so will have double damage. You'll keep getting containment from subsequent applications until the immob wears off. Therefore if you use Ring of Fire 3 times (and on the 3rd application the mob is still immobilized) you will get 5 times the damage - 1x from the original application and 4x from the subsequent applications (2x twice).
It works the same in PvP.

No. All subsequent attacks after containment is triggered have the containment bonus, except special ones like sands of mu that cannot have their damage buffed.

Containment is triggered in PVP only after the opponent is mezzed. Anti-mezzes like CM obviously foil this. Basically containment works the same in PVP. Iirc it gave even bigger damage bonus in PVP though, at least used to. Im not sure if it was changed recently.
2x the normal dmg for PvE and PvP now when containment is up
I was just fighting a Tsoo boss and noticed I was not getting a containment bonus to my damage even though my holds weren't missing. Does containment just not work on them, or do you need a full hold or immob for it to work or what? Would be nice to know the details.
