Fame and the Cult of Celebrity
Well, ShadowGhost's character Grav Mistress has a comic book and animated show based on her and her sidekick, Tiger White (Miss Ellie).
Miss Ellie is also fairly well known, though possibly more for infamy than fame seeing as she was indicted for some deaths last year, though cleared in the end...

I imagine there would be people trying to "cash in" on Heroes/Villains, just with the sheer amount of them in the CoX world it'd have to be something pretty amazing to really stand out.
Along a similar to what FFM was saying, if a Villain to slay civilians there'd be a fairly big shock at first; but over time it would gradually "fall off" the media radar, and no longer be front page material. Until, say, that same Villain moves one step further and wipes out an entire city....
Fairly difficult to gauge really, but I suppose a lot of its subjective.
I'm currently toying with the idea of Syra's antics in the Rogue Isles - namely the murder of Arachnos personnel and destruction of several installations - being known over in Paragon, but again...that sort of thing happens fairly often nowadays (the deaths, of course, are arguable with Heroes).
Hope that made some degree of sense.
Yes, there are newspapers and tabloids that cover heroes primarily. No, I don't think there's an ingame mention of it.
I believe in a spontanious bit of RP around GG was one reading a tabloid named 'hero' and making comments about various assembled heroes, from proposterous to actually true!
So yes. It's rather plausible there would be about 10 of them (people like reading about their heroes, whether super or media) so make one or two up and go with it
If you want to, you could ask on here information on 'famed' heroes, what is known, what is speculated and such

There's already a 'Hero Collectable Card Game' produced by the company Sorcerer of the Inland Games. Alfred Bester, apparently, has nineteen hit points.
The idea of a TV show might be interesting...
*wombles for a moment while he thinks*
Hmm... something in the line of Through The Keyhole might be interesting... or One-Hundred Hottest Celebrity Bodies...
Yeah! Like Meta-Watch: The show where Paragon's finest star! Or Hideout: Footage obtained from inside our favorite hero's bases!

Or possibly:
Look in awe! See the base! Wonder why no one is in it? Is rent too high for Paragon's Heroes?
All this and more on tonight's Watchdog!

I have in theory a reporter character. He had gotten wind of something major going down (beginning of Requiem war) and went to get a story. Eventually he was like a champion (kept in the dark and fed fertilizer) and did a piece about a major effort against the Freakshow that he had been told was the big target.
Too bad at the time I was writing my longest CoH piece (Touch the Sky) and couldn't get the actual news piece done in a decent time and with plausible quality. I've written a few articles and reviews, and edited fifty magazines worth of stuff so in theory I know what a good piece of reportage looks like - it's just such an amount of work to do.
Haphazard pieces of five minute writing I can get done easily enough (just check the recaps) but with "real" articles I'd like to aim higher. And I don't have the time for that.
Hence Jiffy Blakes has not made a second appearance. Hmm, maybe if I visit the Field Writing Analyst and lower the standards from decent to shoddy... I sort of would like to throw Jiffy in for an hour at times. Write short pieces about extravagant escapades of established, enigmatic enforcers of 'eroic efforts. (looks like I found the analyst already.)
Hmm, maybe tonight, way late unless I just drop after the gig.
Hi there.
I'm working on an idea for a new character (Argh, altisis strikes again!) and I need a little background info which I thought I'd like to open to the RP crowd (and others of course).
Now, we know that our characters do gain fame from their actions (hell, if forms our currency) and often passing NPCs will say something nice about us but I was wondering if anyone thought that there would be TV and other media dedicated to our antics. Just as there are magazines and so forth that scream about how a certain celebrity combed their hair this morning, does it follow that a similar cult of celebrity would spring up around our characters? Does anyone have any good examples of this already happening in game?
The long and short of it is that I'm thinking of starting someone who is a bit of a superhero fan who ends up becoming one themselves. But it'll be a bit pointless if the media that stirs up this kind of frenzy doesn't exist in Paragon City.
So, any 'fans' out there or heroes had their autograph asked for recently? Thanks.
