another cloak of fear question...

didn't want to hijack miss's thread so thought I should create my own.

I just picked cloak of fear for my brute, there were not may powers left to choose that i liked the look of (was a choice between cloak of fear and energy transfer ((energy melee - at least I think what the power was called)) ) and so I went for the cloak.

My question is: was it a mistake choosing this power? I really can't seem to find much use for it, I hardly ever pvp, and the only time I would go into a pvp zone would be to collect badges or temp powers.

am I missing something? what can i use this power for? and should I use my free respec to get energy transfer or should i just bear with it and save the respec?

thanks in advance for any help

Cloak of Fear is awesome but it needs slotting with End Redux. When slotted it gives you not only a very cool screaming face aura but also group hold wherever you go. You can jump into a group of badguys and laugh as they cower in fear while you beat the bejesus out of them. Problems with sappers, charge them and watch them cower instead of zapping you.
Works best with AoE primaries but one on one will stop you taking a lot of heat and make your life so much easier. Keep it, slot it, love it.

Nothing funnier than watching a hulking great Freakshow Tank cower in front of you

hehe, yeh i love the look of it, and I've read a little about these sappers but not come across any yet (highest I have so far is my level 33 brute - when do I meet these sappers?).

also, just out of convenience (can't always find a team) I tend to solo a lot - which ultimatly means most mobs I coume across are relatively small in number and quite manageable without the cloak. In this situation, wouldn't the cloak be detrimental as it would cut into my fury building?

Farm your mobs (play on ruthless) then when they are all beating on you (building rage) kick in Cloak of Fear and start laughing

Also haven't found CoF particularly detrimental to fury building and I run it all the time.

ahh, never considered raising difficulty, thanks for the tip! you've convinced me to give the cloak another try

Energy Transfer. The single best attack in the Energy primary. Get it, slot it, never look back. I'd go so far as to say that Energy Transfer is the single best reason for choosing Energy Melee.

2acc, 3 dam, 1 recharge. Enjoy how a gentle seeming tap does such massive damage. Repeat as often as possible.

(But you can probably get away with waiting to 35 to get it. No later though!)

Don't forget to put some Acc in it too. You probably want 1 or 2 Acc SO's in there eventually.

Oh, and don't bother slotting for Fear Duration, it's not really worth it since the nature of the power is tick-like.

You...Took....CoF....over....ET....?

Somebody bring me my gamma ray emiter, this person must be sterilized for the good of the gene pool!

Ok, maybe not going that far, but you really, REALLY should take ET ASAP, it's one of the highest damage attacks in the game.

He can take it next power.. no biggy :P

Can't believe it took people till this far down (5 posts) to pick up on this. I use CoF in PvP, plus on large teams when I need to tank - reduces incoming aggro just enough for you to survive.

Take ET over CoF, but try to get both. I have CoF 2 Acc, 2 end redux.

But full fury+build up+ET = make everyone else cry (especially if someone has just fulcrum shifted you as well)

right, don't want to waste my respec just yet (the way things have been going dont think i'll ever get to do a respec TF) but guess i'll be getting ET soon as I hit level 35

also, still havent got the hang of all the lingo in this game yet...whats a "tick power" and whats fulcrum shift?

[/ QUOTE ]Fulcrum shift is the last power in the kinetics set (Available for Defenders, controllers, and corruptors). It emits a damage boost from each foe in it's area of effect, which means when used on a big spawn it boosts everyone enough to bring them to damage cap (apart for maybe brutes, since their damage cap is way higer than others).

A 'tick power' is any power that applies it's effect in 'ticks', ie. new effect after every set perioid of time. Examples include rain type powers, caltrops, any attacks that do DoT (Damage over time), and auras like Oppressive gloom, CoF, Chocking cloud, and mud pots. For example, a damage aura 'ticks' every time it checks it's AoE for foes, and applies damage to foes in range.
