Fun Factor?
Well depends on what you want. Personally I think masterminds are great fun compared to scrappers. Especially if you take a bit more proactive secondary as opposed to, say, forcefield.
If you want to mash things to bits with reckless abandon, make a energy/energy blaster like mine
On the other hand, any AT can be boring when you are grinding solo missions..
Well i found things pick up when you get the 2nd tier pets and then get even better once you have 3rd tier pet, just hate the set up times at the start of every mission

[/ QUOTE ]I often run out of end when I set and upgrade them.
So I dont run out of end I have 1st upgrade and second upgrade slotted with 2 end reds each, means I can fully buff without getting out of power message.
If you want a fun MM, pick either dark or poison secondary, those are the active ones.
Having much fun with my bot/dark, currently about 34.8.
Was tough going until the first second tier pet, after that it got faster to actually kill things. I know it's a long wait, but after the second upgrade I've been steamrolling through practically everything in solo missions, rarely need to do anything other than put pets in aggressive/follow, maybe laying down tar patch and spamming AOE heal on bigger mobs. Bosses and EBs still give me decent challenges though, and I expect to have problems with Malta in a few levels...
On teams it's great fun jumping into mobs a brute would have trouble with (in bodyguard mode...)
Hehe, take Traps for VERY active fighting. We don't get healing however, except Triage Beacon which is more of a "Oh damn, I picked the wrong power"-power, but I don't think Masterminds are there to replace Corruptors in a way.
Sure you can take traps, good luck trying to solo EB's with just triage beacon healing ya
Dark is the way to go and you all know it!

Thank you all for your comments. I've got my Thug/DA MM up to level 6 and its become a lot more fun now! Two thugs, both upgraded is quite a difference from just the one thug. Looking forward to my MM career
As far as fun/busy gameplay I find my Bot/Dark MM is second only to my EM/EA Stalker in terms of the manual dexterity needed and how generally busy I am (my Mercs/Traps MM is less active but he's lower level and doesn't have many /Traps powers yet - I think /Traps is more about pre-battle set-up anyway).
My 3 brutes have lots of button-pressing, but actually less buttons to worry about (lots of their powers are toggles or passives, not click powers) - generally I can play them all one-handed using the same 5-6 keys in a rhythm (attacks, Tab + auto-follow), with occasional variation (heals, end-drains or AE), but I only need to use the mouse to move between fights or change my camera view.
By contrast my /dark MM has less button-pressing, but each press tends to be a different button across all 3 of my hotbars as I have so many different controls/debuffs/attacks I can use - this takes more manual dexterity but less rhythm than the brute, and is less forgiving if you make a mistake (easier to die if you make a mistake as you don't have the HP/resists of the brutes) so you need to think faster and more tactically too. But button pressing isnt continuous as there will be times you just need to stand back and oversee the battle, looking for potential dangers to your pets and yourself which might need your controls/debuffs to resolve.
The Stalker combines both types of gameplay - its like the Brute when scrapping, but there are times you step back (like the MM) when picking your next target then changing position, and it also needs more timing & dexterity than the Brutes or MM when using controls (stun, placate, etc) or doing your opening attack combo (especially if the target is moving, as assassins strike moves are interruptible). I need to use both keyboard and mouse constantly and sometimes feel I dont have enough hands/fingers
From my experience with Corruptors (to mid levels, not higher level like the others) they are slower and less demanding than all of the above, imho - maybe because Im /rad, but its only really busy when laying in the opening debuffs. I have even less experience of Dominators, but so far it seems quite edgy (like the Stalker - the slightest mistake gets you killed) and with no toggles/passives I expect it will have tons of button-pressing at higher levels.
With Corruptor and MM I think certain powersets are busier than others, but the other ATs seem less affected by that. Also my Corruptor gets a lot busier as the team gets larger (my /dark MM does too), but team size doesnt overly affect my Brute or even my Stalker.

And has - but I did have to run away and come back after my opening gambit, and I may have inadvertently consumed a lot of Enrages

[/ QUOTE ]Defender primaries (and thus controller, corruptor and MM secondaries) have always been the most varying powerset pool for playstyles and character roles.
If you think an MM may be fun, then get past 1 or 2 goons, it really starts to shine by the 3rd goon, I made one purely for fun but got addicted to it, he made level 30 in no time whatsoever!

Taking the Traps MM out of Port Oakes helps, can't say soloing EB's was a problem further down the road. I got a 50 merc/traps, that makes me qualified to say they don't suck against EB's. ;-) ( The Triage Beacon is not quite useless, in conjunction with Bodyguard btw. )
But you get other tools, against EB's, and they work fine. I played a Robo/Dark up to 39, and I don't think the EB's/AV's/Heroes was more difficult to handle at that point, with traps. ;-)
They key here, is to pick a set you can have fun with. Not making a notion about "uberness" and then play from that point of view. Sure show stopper at one point or another.
So pick whatever suits your idea of fun, that's the ticket. :-)

I'm currently trying a lot of ATs to around level 8 to get a feel for what ones I want to play up further. The mastermind appeals to me however I'm a little concerned that it might not be all that fun to play compared with the action you might find in a Scrapper or Blaster type.
The early levels of a MM seem quite dull. Do they pick up once past, say level 12 (or even 6 with the second henchman)?
