24th July Hamidon Raid - IMPORTANT Taunt Team Info

Guys,

There is a slight problem with the Hamidon Taunt team for the 24th July raid in that I am no longer willing to lead it. While I'll not go into the specifics, it will be impossible for me to be taunt team leader for a third Hami raid due to a communication issue.

I've PM'd Babel with my reasons and just want to wish the guys who do make up the taunt team the best of luck, especially those who've been on my team for the last two I've headed up.

Just to recap, the team I finalised was

Golden Golem
Sara Aegis
Rooks
Jessica Raven
Emberwilde
Idris
Dutch Barbarian

While Babel will now need to find another taunt team leader, who is perfectly entitled to pick his/her own team, I would like to make my suggestions.

First off, keep Dutch Barbarian in the tema no matter what. The worth of his group fly should never be undervalued. Second, I'd ask Golden Golem to take my place as taunt team leader as he was on the last successful team and knows what needs to be done. Looking at those who signed up, I'd probably put Khorrigan in as the 8th member.

Good luck anyway guys and while I won't be in there with you for the raid, I'll be playing on the night so if you need to check anything before you start, just send me a tell.

Kin, thanks for the PM. Totally understand your reasons, and i accept your.. "resignation" quite grudgingly.

Thanks for all the hard work in pre-raid organization bud, its been appreciated

I'd be happy to step in as the 8th member.

Thanks Kin. I'm honored that you want me to be the taunt team leader. I guess I'll have to swot up on our tactics.

I'll keep the team as Kinslayer suggests. I think we have a few of the people who were in team in the previous raid.

One important thing to realise is that we had multiple teams wipes on the way to the gathering point. These were due to the combo of group fly and those nasty swarms.

I have a question...
What should I fill my insp tray with? I'm thinking plenty of greens with a smattering of awakens and def buffs....

Last time I brought all awakens. Def buffs are pointless, Hami is auto hit.

I would personally recommend Awakens and Break Frees. Awaken for when you die, break frees to overcome the stun of the Awaken.

The most importnant and dangerous part of the raid for us is deployment. This is where we all suicidally drop on the same side of Hami whilst taunting and try not to get wiped out. If/when we do a fast awaken/break free combo will allow us to ( as a team ) keep aggro by making sure there is a constant taunt blanket. A couple of greens may improve survivability, I'm not sure by how much.

Hopefully soon after that the Kin cell will get their healing blanket over us and we can relax.

Even though I won't be taking part now for the reasons some of you know, I had a little look round Eden the other night to try and see how to prevent the deaths we had en-route to Hami last time.

I couldn't check the exact distance but I 'think' it may be possible to recall friend to Coward's Hill. May be worth finding a flier with TP friend who can TP you all there then form the taunt team up once there(unless one of the taunt team has fly/TP friend)

Failing that, the problem last time was caused by two factors:

- Flying too high. The swarms pretty much cover the flight ceiling and there's no need to fly that high.

- Rubber banding on Group Fly. Even though we all set to follow on Dutch, group fly doesn't seem to maintain equal distance at all times, meaning some fell behind and out of the group fly range. Slow and steady is the way forward.

The only other tip is to NOT use your self rez trying to get there. It's important that self rez is available during deployment so you're up and taunting straight away.

Once again, good luck guys and sorry I can't lead the taunt team again

Reckoned I'd shed some light into this, from a hami flyin veteran

This indeed is very much possible Someone that manages to reach Coward's Hill can TP anyone from the hive gate. Prob is, some people are confused to what Coward's Hill actually is, so make sure you get TPed to the right spot

The swarms only cover the hills, the skies above hami got no swarms. The swarms are only outlined along the outskirts of the hills. Best bet to fly is fly at med height till you reach the clearing where hami is, then fly up. If everything is alright you should already see the PA team hovering there. This is a pretty good altitude to maintain as most PA members will fly just outside of hami's aggro range.

This indeed is an annoying thing, best thing to do is fly a bit forward, just till you reach the range of group fly. Not sure bout the exact range of GF, but say if its 50 ft, each time you'll fly paces of 49 ft. Then stop a bit to allow everybody to catch up, then fly a bit again, etc etc. Course having a flyer with recall friend can be handy to quickly tp those back in the air who still manage to fall behind.

Hope it is any help

"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"

But you could've joined anyway...
Maybe with the scrapper to pound him?

Where is Cowards hill? I could wander over there well in advance of the raid and tp everyone to a clear spot. The GM's aren't really a problem with Granite on as long as I keep moving. Had a look on the Vidiot maps but nothing is clear on there

EDIT: I'm stood on top of a spire to the south of Hamidon, a little further to the south of me is a small patch of grass which is isolated from the rest by spires and a cliff...is this bit Cowards Hill? If not, it could still make a good staging ground...

I'm not sure where Cowards Hill is. But as a superspeeder I can get pretty close in safety. Maybe I run in first, find a good spot where we can fly from, you tp in and then we get the rest of the team.

The team as it stands is:

Golden Golem
Sara Aegis
Rooks
Jessica Raven
Emberwilde
Idris
Dutch Barbarian
Khorrigan

If people don't turn up, we can start substituting.

One of the first Hami raids I went too, I noticed that the taunt team consisted of one regen scrapper and 2 empaths, the scrapper had Confront too keep Hami regulary taunted, and whenever he got shot by Hami he would either use Recon/Dull Pain or one of the Empaths would heal him, is this just me losing my mind or did this actually happen? If so, why aren't we using this tactic now?

That is correct.

Because Jiaozy found another way.

Wouldn't the old tactic be better? What are the benefits of the new one?

Posted

Becuase if the scrapper does go down, all your eggs are in one basket. Same if his taunt misses at all.

A team of taunters, especially tanks who's taunt auto hits, covers all bases.

Worth remembering a lot of those early raids failed abysmally and this isn't a 'new' tactic but a tried and tested US one with a few modifications for our smaller server populations.

Aaaaah ok, sorry to bother, but my mind just kept nagging at me.

How did it go...tell me tell me,

Really want to go on the next 1 so let me be the first to sign up

Thanks to everyone who were in the Taunt team. It didn't go according to plan, but I feel we all gave it our best shot!

The final line up was:-

Golden Golem
Sara Aegis
Rooks
Jessica Raven
Idris
Khorrigan
Belgaroth
Agent 619

Special thanks to Agent 619 for being the most foolhardy of Team Faceplant! As he was a defender with Group Fly who courageously joined us in the suicide drop at the start and stayed with us all through the raid, although he did faceplant the most.

Aye Lad, we did our best...and it was a good laugh watching the tanks do the "stand up lie down" dance!!! never burned through 10 awakens in such a short time before!!!
Count me in for any future raids I'm gonna go accolade hunting I think....

I had all of the relevant accolades apart from archmage. Didn't help.

Oh, and for those of us in that particular scrap.. damnit Idris, what did you do?
