Are Claws really that bad for PvP?
No, claws isnt bad. Id much rather take claws over spines (which I have done, btw )
not for a stalker. For a scrapper yes. Stalkers only AS and follow up with an attack and run like cowards. I don't see a lot of stalkers who scrap. If you intend to use that tactic claws are ok.
if your ognna scrap energy melee is the best.
Very amusing that people think Claws is bad for PvP. It's a good set for Stalkers & Scrappers.

sorry none of my squishy pvp toons are the least bit scared of claws. Claws scrappers dont hit hard, and they lack a good build up for pvp.

I chose claws for my stalker and I'm glad I did. Having played a blaster and a peacebringer (i.e. toons with ranged attacks), I would have felt lost without a ranged attack, but there are two good/reasonable ranged attacks here. I like focus to chase down running wusses in Siren's Call, and the Assassin's Strike, Eviscerate, Shockwave/Focus and a final slash makes for very nice damage. Plus, if you've been knocked out of hide, eviscerate has some chance to score a critical out of hide. Although having said that, it won't always hit a critical IN hide...
You simply haven't gone up against a claws Scrapper who has a clue, at some point you will.

Like Filth said, this is down to players. I've seen players using sets which don't work well together go into PVP and decimate everything.
And besides, in RV all stalkers are significantly less effective due to all the +perception flying about, and the other sets ALL have at least some defences. I regularily survive an AS, either by running if the stalker has used purps or is a /nin, or fearing and beating the snot out of them otherwise.
Claws is not as high DPS wise as something like DM, even over time, but the attacking is constant, and of course you can do a ranged critical. I would think snipe+blast+focus would leave squishies dead without any risk to you, or would allow you to remove the defender, placate, then AS the scrapper, and run like hell.
I personally recommend Dark Melee / SR if you intend to stand your ground, there's an -acc component in the DM set, as well as an immobilize and fear power, and the SR combined with the -acc vs. single targets should give you an edge.
If you're happy with claws however, stick with it

Well I'm still waiting for a claws scrapper to scare me too, tbh, and i've fought some

That's his playstyle dude, he plays hit and run. Fact of the matter energy melee does the highest damage output out of hide, hence if you want to stand and scrap you won't be in hide, so energy melee is the best choice.
Claws isn't bad at PvP, it has great soft control in the form of knocback, with shockwave and focus, I could keep a squishy perma floored. Its a great squishy killer, and the recharge times are very fast on claws. The bad part is it has low burst damage, and the damage type is lessly resisted, which gives it a problem in the high end of PvP where all the squishies have shields.

all the squishies have knockback protection. And i think Vigiliant is fairly good claws/Sr and so is your friends synathethix claws scrapper. They just tickle.

And I've taken out your Ice/EM Blapper one on one with my Claws/SR (pre-I7, without using Elude) - so I guess you could say I tickled you to death? It'll be even easier now, btw, with the toggle-drop changes - being able to use Follow Up without losing all your toggles in the process will massively increase the Claws damage output. Don't take my word for it though, X can give a good account of how much damage Claws can do in the right hands from a fight-night on Test.
It might not be the best duelling set, but Claws is assuredly a viable primary in PvP.

and i've taken out your scrapper as well. Easiest scrappers to kill now for my blaster are the sr scrappers. I'm not saying claws are bad, played by a good player they can be better than a bad player playing broadsword for example.
Nowt wrong with claws buddy and i7 gave the set a nice dust off.
My stalker is Claws/regen and he is one of a few that will stand and fight quite happily.
There is some myth against Claws, I don't think its true. I built a Claws/regen scrap on RV test, he happily took on 2 brutes.
And yes I know scraps and stalks are different blah blah blah, as the claws set goes, its just fine

i second that.
Defiant's GoEH/MILITIS METUS
Most squishies have no knockback protection, unless they are building specifically for PVP and want to. Some non-squishies don't have knockback protection as well (DA scrappers and Fire tankers/brutes come to mind)
Im really in stalker mode at the moment, I have made 4 in the last week and got them all to 14 and decided to try another....Im looking Purely at PvP but dont really want energy. Im loving MA and Claws the most at lvl 14. the range element is a huge draw for me, leaving Spines and claws.
There are eleventy Billion Spines stalkers about right now so i'd prefer to avoid it. (if you have met any of my chars, you'll know i dont like looking like everyone else )
I hear sooo many bad things about claws.
Are they Really that bad, or is it just that no one has given them a chance?
**Edit** Im building a Stand and Scrap, not a Hit and Run
