Ice controller advice
ice/storm makes a nice combo, ice slick and freezing rain go together well, also keeps the theme, very usful in teams as it has a heal (the heal is better just to be use to free people from holds imo) and the -res in rain helps with solo'ing.
jack's height depends what time of year it is, in the summer he can get very small and wet
Ice control isn't really too well suited to soloing. It's possible of course, but will be slow going and not nearly as easy as some of the other sets. Storm gives you uber control but alot of the powers overlap with ice and it isn't the best for soloing. You will miss a self heal and lack of a +end power.
I'd say /kin or /rad for soloing. Good news is they are both also great in teams, as everyone loves speed boost and AM. They are also far more straight forward than storm, if you are new to controllers (you didn't specify if you have tried trolling before). It's quite an advanced set and when played well is exceptional, when played badly it's horrible.
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain

see i disagree i have a Ice/Storm and it works rather well on my own! i didnt pick up the heal as i aim to make this a PvP toon as with its multiple slows will make anybodies speed and recharges crippling leaving you plenty of time to debuff away and to of course ..... stack more slows and with the aid of jack frost and lightning storm for your damage output it could be a very painfully slow spiral down for your enemy!
I reckon Ice / Storm too.
Ice Patch + Freezing rain.
AOE Immobilise or hold + Hurricane + Tornado
I've been dreaming of having a troller with a -knockback immob and Tornado.
Ice / TA might be fun too and a bit different. Might wreck your head too with all the bow pulling (oo-er).
If it does Ice / Rad would be nice too. IMO Rad is a better soloing set than Kinetics as the debuffs give you a lot of survivability. Post 35 Kinetics becomes superb though.
Ice/Storm is great but i really would avoid tornado like the plague! it really aint worth the power slot! there is so many better powers in the two sets which you will find more usefull! IMO anyway but each to their own!

I used to think the same. I despised it when I first got it.
But I recently got it again. It's great indoors, especially in enclosed rooms, mainly for the disorientate. I've had it stun entire rooms before.
With a -knockback power you should be able to control the crazy thing a bit better.
It does take up one of my "play around with it" powerslots though, its not something I use all the time. But between it, O2 Boost or an Invis its the most fun of the 3.
I think TA would make quite a nice Ice Secondary tbh.
With the -spd, -rec on all Ice's powers, itd stack nicely with the now-perma Glue Arrow.
Also Ice has a LOT of hard control, so you could simply lay Ice Slick or Glacier, then whip out the Bow to debuff the mobs to crimminy!
Works well with my Earth/TA and i think Ice's synergi could be even higher.
Not to mention how cool Oil Slick would look, bursting into delicious Orange flames on your beautful crisp blue ice slick............ok i need a lie down and a manly beer, grr, motors and such......
But make up your own mind, try http://www.nofuture.org.uk/coh/powers/ to check activation times, up-coming powers and general know-how.
Good Luck!
Miss Marvellous is Lvl 50 Ice/Ta you certainly wont regret it if you go for this combo.
I ignired all the imbols from ice as i think they just get you unwanted agro for a pittance of damage.
Basicaly you hold them debuffem and when you get Jack at 32 beat them senceless. When you get to the ancillary things realy start to hot up.
After the thread resurection due to the latest replys I have decided to delete the ice/strom controller I got to lvl 10 and start on an Ice/TA.
I have come up with this as a proposed build:
01) --> Block of Ice==> Acc(1) Hold(3) Rechg(3) Hold(7) Rechg(9) Acc(19)
01) --> Entangling Arrow==> Acc(1)

06) --> Air Superiority==> Acc(6) Dmg(7) Dmg(50)
08) --> Swift==> Run(8)
10) --> Ice Arrow==> Acc(10) Hold(11) Rechg(11) Hold(15) Rechg(15) Acc(19)
12) --> Ice Slick==> Rechg(12) Rechg(13) Rechg(13)
14) --> Fly==> EndRdx(14) Fly(37) Fly(43)
16) --> Poison Gas Arrow==> Rechg(16) Slow(17) Slow(17)
18) --> Health==> Heal(18)

30) --> Shiver==> Acc(30) Slow(31) Dmg(31) Acc(40)
32) --> Jack Frost==> Acc(32) Dmg(33) Dmg(33) Dmg(33) Hold(34) Hold(34)
35) --> Oil Slick Arrow==> Rechg(35) Rechg(36) Rechg(36) Dmg(36) Dmg(37) Dmg(37)

41) --> Fire Ball==> Acc(41) Acc(42) Dmg(42) Dmg(42) Dmg(43) Rechg(43)
44) --> Fire Shield==> EndRdx(44) DmgRes(45) DmgRes(45) DmgRes(45)
47) --> Consume==> Acc(47) Acc(48) EndMod(48) Rechg(48) Rechg(50) Rechg(50)
49) --> Super Speed==> Run(49)
I have left the AoE hold out as it doesnt look good and will rely on ice slick and the 2 single target holds as my main controls as well as Arctic Air and the slows. I know I have very few powers that set up containment but I have taken fireball anyway just to add to the damage that oilslick will do. The most striking thin for me is how many powers in TA I have taken compared to Ice. I would really like advice on the slotting front but if you see any glaring errors feel free to point them out.
Second the Ice/TA thing, I rolled one recently and have been playing the heck out of her (now lvl 20). I'm also finding that I'm taking more TA powers than Ice atm - Ice Slick and Block of Ice (both with lots of recharges) are my Ice bread and butter, and I've been using Flash, Glue and Poison from TA a lot, and have just added Acid. Not taken Stamina prerequisites yet, as this set seems to be end light - will see how I get on, can always respec.
Agreed, I've run my Earth/TA to 30 now without Stamina. Like I said, lay down a mass hold, then debuff with TA. TA is VERY end light. Even laying a constant chain of arrows (whi you'll get with just Hasten and pre-requisite slots) you'll never run out of end.
Id recommend picking up the AoE hold. Draw time will be your biggest foe to overcome, so switching between Primary and Secondary is a big no-no. Hence why i lay something down, then cycle my whole TA chain before returning to my Primary.
It could work for Ice though without the AoE, seeing as though Perma-Ice slick is available very easily.
Switching between Primary and Secondary just to cycle ST holds will have you grinding your teeth........except when you find out you can hold a boss in 2 seconds from level 10 onwards
Take all the arrows, love them all. Without all the arrows you'll just be specifying in small areas of debuff, when it has the potential to cover them all (except -regen).
A full TA chain is devastating.
Enjoy!
To me perma ice slick seems better control than the AOE hold. if some mobs are knockback resistant I do have 2 single target holds to contain them. The only good thing about the AoE hold is it sets up containment but I dont know that it is worth the number of slots required to use it for that. If I need a containment power I may just get the AoE immob.
i hav personally found ice/rad really fun - but hard going. I am very team suited though. And only readched L25 with here so far. Up to now - only hav slick, block of ice, shiver and the AoE immob - foudn the rest pretty unhelpful. HArd going - but very fun!
The difference is you can combine the AoE hold and Ice Slick for maximum effect, but cant combine AoE immob with it (unless Ice is the one which doesnt affect it) as it'll disrupt the KU for 10 seconds.
That's fine though mate, I understand, I just find I need all my AoE-ness (AoE immob + Stalags / Quake / Volc Gasses) as my teams always seem to manage to aggro more than one mob Guess id better stop joining PuG's
Good luck with it, and keep us posted, it sounds like a gr8 build.

Well sort of... if they are held, they won't be subject to KD. And from the troller sets, it's the grav AoE immob which doesn't interfere with KD
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
I have decided to try out an ice/controller and I am wondering what secondary would be best for it as this will be my first seriuous controller. I would like to be able to solo as well as be usefully in teams.
Also can anyone tell me how tall jack frost is please as I am planning on picking up the Ice epic and would like to be the same size as him when wearing the Ice Armour.
