Sonic Trollers?

When I was thinking of a 'troller to play I thought about what would go well with some of my other alts ...

for my Spines/Regen I thought Earth/Sonic would be great, as it would have lots of hard control and +RES ... it would mean instant god mode for a /regen scrapper though...

then I realised other than teaming, it would be pretty hard going. I also realised I had never seen this combination. I then FURTHER realised I don't think I've EVER seen a /sonic troller. Does anyone have one? Is it any good when teamed with scrappers or is it just a painful secondary that doesn't seem to have a lot of synergy with any of the primaries?

Problem with sonic for controllers is that the values for the shields are pretty low (something like 16%) so they aren't actually that good. Sonic Dispertion is handy, though, since it adds mez protection. On the other hand, you can get that from Dispertion Bubble in the FF set and you get quite a few more useful powers (from a controller point of view) from FF as well.

This is where I get a bit hazy as I don't know all the numbers, but triple SO that up to ~32. I was thinking about duoing with a friendly spines/regen.

Assume Sonic Dispersion stacks?
Plus Tough plus Resilience? Both triple slotted.

I know it isn't a lot but when you factor it all in there's a fair amount of resistance in there.

Plus disruption field for extra damage...

As I said, I quickly threw the idea out as the build is a bit too tailored around who it can team with ... nice to know why they aren't all that common anyway. Thanks!

Where do you get the percentage figure for the effectiveness of powers?

Thanks

Sherksilvers Hero Planner has a lot of numbers in it, but resistance percentages are pretty easy to work out yourself if you have time to do a bit of testing and a spare friend.

The 16% I quoted is with 3 SOs in it. Defenders get almost 32% res out of the bubbles, hence why the primary is better. Yes they do stack, but how sensible is it to be standing next to a spines/regen in full whirling-death mode?

Well, if the mobs don't have any AoEs ... pretty sensible.
If they do ... that's where the primary would come in.

Well, there's an experienced player in my SG (@atomic), with one 50, Exotic Lily, and a 40, Two Toned Malone, that has an Ice/Sonic. Psionic Icicle.

This combo seems to work very well, although, impo, not concept wise- the main reason I don't want to roll a sonic Troller.

I think everyone, even non RPers, in the back of their minds, have something that says, "NO DON'T DO IT! THAT CONCEPT SUCKS!!!!". Because, I know I certainly do, sometimes you end up thinking, from mid 20s+, [censored]. What have I done? What possessed me to make a <Dark Miasma/Elec> <Defender>?

I have a 27 troller grav/sonic, Molecuman. Concept is he has power of molecules.Ang guess what vibrating molecules produce folks?

Firstly, I, very suprised at the figures quoted above - troller powers are meant to be 80% or thereabouts of defenders - so either there is a bug, the devs have been very misleading, or the figures are wrong. Unless anyone has actually tested the above, im inclined to the latter explanation.

However, Im not using the single target shields. Sonic Siphon means about +20% damage against the target which is highly useful vs Avs/EBs/Bosses. Sonic dispersion field is most useful for mez resistance but as noted above pretty similar to the FF version.

Snoic disruption field no one understands but is immensily helpful with a tank... a good tank will help make mincemeat of clustered mobs with this on him/her.

I find sonic a very helpful powerful set. Admittedly forcefield probably gives the edge in defence, now that scaling defence is nigh, but the -res debuff effect of sonic is what cuts it for me. And clarity power at level 35 is going to be very popular vs those Malta - I mean, at mid 30s+, I found clarity the most lovely power of the whole empath set

I understand the only really gazumped power is liquefy, but Im taking it as I want more control

I tried a grav/ff up to lvl 14 or so, but I prefer my grav/sonic. I have a better concept, more solo-ability, and I wider range of good powers in the sonic set. Forcefield does give more protection, but less mez resistance (clarity) and no debuff has been my experience.

Grav/sonic here and just reached 35. I am quite enjoying the combination, but it's definitely a team-build and not for the impatient. I still have to explain on most teams what Disruption Field does (works great on tanks or scrappers) and I doubt that many notice when I use Sonic Siphon. Clarity is a fast activating Clear Mind and I will also try Liquefy, even if I decide to drop it later. Haven't tried the Repulsion one, since it seems like a less than useful thing to waste endurance on. The shields are quite good, and I think squishies do feel the difference when they have them. I did take Sonic Cage in the low levels, but it's really only useful when you solo or for PvP, so I dropped it later. So, it certainly won't get me as many invites as /rad or /kin, but it's a nice set to play .

PS oh, and I'm almost sure the figure for the shields is 16% unslotted (so around 25% with 3 SOs), but I might be wrong.

Hellowie!

I just started Roleplaying last week, so I made an Illusion Control - Sonic Resonance Controller. Concept was my character was a mentally deficient Vadevillian, who had mastered the arts of Illusion, Ventriliquism, Vocal Projection and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).

I tried Sonic, but found it alot more team based than Force Fields. Forcefields has alot more "Solo Friendly" Powers in my honest opinion. But Sonic was still a fun set.

Plus I think they toned down Soni graphics a little to much. I can barely see the Buffs I give.

The Rot Hood.

Earth Sonic here, currently at 13 ish, as part of Team Lockdown, a 2x earth, 2x fire, 2x grav, 2x ice regular team.

I'm really enjoying the combo, and it seems to work well within our setup, as we have an ff too, so doubling up on the protection. I also tested the build to 40 during the RV test, and it did very well in there, especially at holding a hardpoint. I'll see if I can find my build - it is somewhere about.
