Emp/dark here, went with psi as the holds tremendously increase soloability, and are very useful for hammy raids as well.
Power Mastery is pretty handy. Power Boost makes a big difference to things like Regen Aura.

Does it affect RA's? Thought it didn't affect them.
I also went for Psi, as it's nice for the holds.
I think it affects Regen aura, but not Recov. (At least, it doesn't boost the end recov from AM)
But Power boost affects the defense and to-hit bonus from FA, and the heals. 
Not played a defender myself but the Physics shield has the best res to S/L in the epics also some Psi IIRC

I'm pretty sure it boosts the +recovery of Recovery Aura too.
Yeah, I think +Recovery counts as a secondary effect.

It boosts Regen and Recovery, and I'm pretty sure AM. I sure as hell feel the difference between boosted and unboosted AM.

I am on the cusps of 40 with mine (10mths work so far). Been chattin round - and the almost universal concensus is to take "Psi"
Thanks for the thoughts guys. Took power mastery on my Controller so think i'll try Psi which seems a popular option and it's a bit new to me.
lol Chicken1013 i've really only known Empath/Dark builds throughout my gameing experience. Obviously must be other combo's but Dark seems to the popular combo with Empath.
On another quick thought , any Empaths here taken the "Dark Nova" type attack at 38? I teamed with another Dark defender last night who had it but was a bit reluctant to use it understandably i thought

Good if you team with a kin though, or take dark mastery and soul drain.

True, but it also affects the secondary effects of the power! You're a defender, it's not all about damage! Well...I'm not so sure about that...
imo power mastery is by far the best way for an empath to go, thats for PvP tho
I took Power Mastery on Moonlit Shadow, it fitted well with her being /Energy in the first place. I think all 4 powers in the set are useful, but there are no holds, which may put some people off.
I took Dark mastery on sweet,to begin with, and really liked it, but I felt like a change and decided to go for psi.
Now I cant undersdtand why I didnt take it to begin with!

The holds are a massive use for an empath, they make us all round team helpers, i like to advertise myself as a walking, talking, slightly more annoying inspiration these days ^_~
Tried Psi, Elec, and Power. Power's easily the most useful, but Elec is more spectacular...

Just hit 40 last night on my Empath/Dark Defender (13 months work) and getting ready to choose my Epic Pool.
Is there a recomended Pool to choose from ? . I've really no experience with the Epic sets and their benefits.
So far i've only 3 attack powers , Moonbeam and Blast and the Torrent one (which i need to respec out asap).
Cheers in advance for any suggestions.
