Dominators in PvP.
I find that with the tankers and scrappers, your gonna need to apply that hold a few times to make it stick, but otherwise I dont do to bad. Obviously someone else needs to come and kill folks due to my pitiful damage output but otherwise.
I use stealth and hover with tp to get around, serves me well enough.
I've done a bit as Bilharzia in Siren's Call (on Union), you'd have to ask the heroes whether I've been effective. I haven't seen many other Doms there when I've been on but I have been around when there have been some reasonably sized fights.
As far as surviving yourself goes it's pretty hard to do anything if you're not in a team for support, I used to take a few BFs with me now I live with it if held or rely on a Corrupter to assist. It is frustrating to see heroes pump BFs and run away (if they can) but that's just the way it is. I chose the leaping pool which has Combat Jumping and Acrobatics - these powers are extremely useful since you can get away from Immobs and single Holds with them. Against co-ordinated Controllers they won't help much but these powers will give you an edge.
The problem with a Dom especially in PvP is that our secondary is pretty weak and we have no support powers. I'm Plant/Thorn which means I have to get close to use the best of my powers and I'm extremely squishy so I have to time attacks, hit and run - CJ and Acrobatics help here again. I've also found the Confuse from Seeds can be very effective, as are the immobs. Although the secondaries aren't great I've found my two main attacks to be surprisingly heavy hitting so when I can I get in there and stab away a bit.
Domination is what sets us apart - it's difficult to build up since your life expectancy is pretty short, but I've done it several times in PvP. With Domination I can break a tank using Granite Armour, and by extention any other mezz resist I know - Granite is unique since it can't be toggled dropped as far as I know. I can put a hold on with a Mag of 12 very quickly and stack Mag 18 in a few seconds - for a single character to do this is pretty powerful. As a single Dominator without Domination I wouldn't bother throwing a Hold on Scrappers or Tanks, though immobs will slow them down and attacks will hurt them and if you have Plant - seeds may Confuse them.
More Doms (and probably more importantly Corrupters) kicking around Siren's would be great since there isn't a shortage of Controllers, and the bane of Dominators - Empaths.
As Filth mentioned, but I feel needs really to be clear... you're only going to do well with a team. Now, that said, I've seen Filth hop off by himself and beat up a Controller, and you might catch a lone Defender without any Break Frees, but you really need backup to do much more. Most ATs do better in a team, though, thankfully - as long as you head into the zones at a time when there are a few people around, it's generally not difficult to shout around and find people who are willing to team up.
Without Domination, you should be able to easily hold most Defenders, Controllers, and Blasters in Siren's Call. The exception to this is Force Field users - the big bubble around them protects them, and any allies under it, from most status effects. Go after those people who you should be able to hold, and of those, target people you find to be the greatest threats first. A lot of people will carry Break Frees and get away from your holds, and some of them will repeatedly leave the zone and buy more, which can make your job a bit tiresome, but even holding someone for a second knocks their toggles off, and gives your teammates a better chance.
With Domination, as Filth also mentioned, you can (eventually) hold just about anything, providing they don't pop Break Frees and run for it when they realise what you're up to. I was with him when he held a Stone tank using Granite Armour - he actually did it twice. The first time was completely by himself. The second time, realising it was possible, my Corruptor threw her holds on as well (she's Ice/Dark), and helped stack them, which got the Tank held even more quickly. I've also helped Filth stack holds on other characters when he didn't have Domination up, so keep an eye out for teammates who also have holds (other Dominators, Ice/ Corruptors, and /Dark Corruptors and MMs might), and see if you can cooperate to stack holds on people with higher mez resists. Scrappers and Tanks are a lot easier for your teammates to kill once they are held (and a lot less dangerous), so you're really helping out if you can manage it.
Honestly, I wish we saw more Dominators in the PvP zones. There are so many Controllers on the Hero side, and the Villain side is really losing out by not having enough people with control powers.
I think the problem is the squishyness of them. I have both a corruptor and a dominator and they both get creamed due to being one of the first targets go for (note not all doms/corruptors are that squishy). Because of this it puts alot of people off as its not fun being killed all the time.

Count into the fact that villains have stalkers. Visibly they aren't there so you're even more likely to be taken down fast and most stalkers don't protect their team mates but go out looking for easy pray themselves.
My Dominator is pretty mean in a team, but I haven't got a single attack slotted so on my own i'd never be able to damage something enough to finish them off.
I can quite happily hold a scrapper or tank, albeit not for very long, but when teamed with a stalker we're a deadly combination.
I was grouped up a part of the time I was there... acutely with another dom, and a stacker. A positional nightmarish scenario. At that time we was up against 2 scrapers. (Never saw any tankers, blasters, controllers or defenders).
I do suspect the brake frees'd to be the reason why I could not stack enough hold's imobs, but BF will always be available. And if my one true weapon as a dominator can so easily be negated by a dirt cheep inspiration will that part ever change ?
a) They're called Stalkers, not stackers
b) Single Target Hold, Group Hold, Single Target Hold used within seconds of each other is usually enough to hold a scrapper
c) You can overpower breakfrees with enough stacked holds
d) With domination up you can hold anything in 1 or 2 shots, so smack a few NPCs before running into a battle
It's really off putting when someone just pops a break free. Having said that though I go through loads of breakfrees and it is a hassle to go get mrore all the time so I don't. I bet alot of Heros don't bother either.
Not pvped much but I usually jump in when other attack and try to hold defenders/controlers. Really helps everyone else when you jump in and hold a stormy. I usually just keep away from tanks/scrapper, Can hold them but killing them is another matter :P.

Its annoying when you get held and you dont have any BF's too
Holds are in my top 3 most annoying ways to die so its worth sticking with it. I've been tempted to make one for myself.

i think dominator a can't do anything in PvP.
slow? some MM or corr do it
hold the fear of drak miasma and the hold of the ice corruptor set do it better than yours.
and even if you hold one, there is NO chanceto kill him with our "dmage set" (mouah ah aha , they call it "damage" ah ah ahahahah... sorry. )
and finaly we can't as the troller do take a real secondary set like FF ^^ or another control set.
no way to PvP with that : /

Dominators have far better modifiers for holds than Corruptors do. Terrify (Mind Doms) is a better Fear than Fearsome Stare (Dark Corrs)

I've seen a Plant/Thorns happily take down: Controllers, Blasters, Blappers, Stone Tanks in Granite. Thorns is no damage powerhouse, either.

That's because Dominators aren't Controllers. You might as well complain that Blasters and Scrappers don't get secondary sets like FF, because it's the same (illogical) argument - if you want a control/buff toon, roll a Controller.

Do you want to make your mind up as to what you do and don't want? Dominators have a damage secondary, that's what makes them Dominators. If you don't like that, then no-one's forcing you to make a Dom.

... all the secondaries are locked for each AT. I would continue, but you're just speaking utter rubbish and I doubt I'd make myself understood anyway.

In PvE i find Dominator damage to be totally acceptable, but for PvP inadequate. It is not impossible by a long stretch of the imagination, but the difficulty with which a Dom can solo most hero AT's is too vast to make it balanced.
Usually, i don't have much of a problem with Defenders, but the rest of the hero AT's are difficult to improbable to beat on the majority of occasions i've experienced. I'm forced to take the majority of my primary powers and usually 4 from my secondary to be able to stack holds enough to make them stick for a sufficient length of time, as my single target hold (slotted with 3 lev 40 Hold SO's) won't pin them long enough for me to finish them off. Ice Slick and AS slows them down, but that doesn't make escape impossible, and due to the 'cool down' after i've held them i can't continue this process after i've TP'd them back to me.
After Controllers recover from mez i'm insta-held, and if i'm lucky enough to get out of their own stacked holds i'm debuffed so much i can't do anything. Blasters usually break free just in time for them to two shot me with Defiance, and even though i can usually hold Scrappers or Tanks by dropping their toggles, once again even with stacked holds i can't keep them pinned long enough, as i can barely drop 50% of a Scrappers health before he recovers and runs away or Regens. Just to note, the majority of my damage comes from Bonesmasher and Toal Focus, each slotted with 2 accs, 3 dmg and 1 recharge - it used to be 2 recharge and 2 damage, but that was insufficient too.
To be honest, i'm not looking to PvP solo as Doms are more team-based anyway (and really quite useful, in the right hands) and i'm not looking to take down Scrappers or Tanks, but i think i should be given a fair shot at beating at least a Blaster solo. I'd improve the damage just a little on Dominators, and nothing more.
And also, i would've loved to have seen that Dominator take down that Granite Tank. I don't think it's impossible, but i'll believe it when i see it.
Most of all, i'd just say persevere and get used to the AT rather than trying a few times and just giving up because of the countless deaths. Practice makes less deaths :P

I was there too. It was Filth on his Plant/Thorns, using Domination. He easily overcame Granite's mez protection with that running, because of the increased magnitude and duration. I guess the guy didn't have any Break Frees (And why would he? He seemed pretty shocked that he was held. ), so once it happened, he was good as dead.

It was truly a thing of wonder and beauty (more wonder than beauty) - I can't be sure, but he may have broken through Rooted as well as Granite. After that, it was pretty academic - the Fly Trap went about its business and chomped away happily at the crippled Stonie.

Ah right, Domination, 'nuff said. My words in the previous post are all based around not having Domination built up, just FYI

You could have read my original post further up the thread when I make this clear...everybody seems to just ignore Domination when talking about Dominators. If you keep talking your abilities down you'll start believing you're under-powered.
With Domination I've held a stone tank with Granite (so overcome his mezz resist) and various other builds including a Kheldian in tank form whatever that is - the one that makes a lot of noise. This means a Dominator can break pretty much anything in PvP. As far as I'm aware BFs are based on a mag as well (could be wrong) so it would take a number of BFs to break out of a high mag hold. You can put down a Mag18 hold with single target/aoe hold/singe target cycle. Why don't you try it yourself?
I'm just an impatient person, and in a PvP zone where fights are usually fairly constant i don't find it in the least bit practical to spend time working up my Domination bar, particularly in Sirens.
Sure, if i was gonna head out for a duel i'd probably do this without a quarrel, but as a great deal of the fighting in zones is not 1v1 i cannot imagine spending 5-10 mins working up my Dom bar solo - which i'd probably have to do, as i can't imagine many team mates coming to help me just for this purpose, and i can imagine being taken out while i'n trying to do this - only to be at least as equally effective as a regular Controller for a few minutes. Much rather i'd go in, be as useful as i can for an indefinite amount of time, die, then come back again quickly.
Like i said i'm impatient, each to his own, but i'd prefer to be somewhat effective for a longer period of time than be very effective for a short amount of time. I'm trying to balance this notion based on time spent working up the Domination bar, and the debuffs that a Troller has at his/her disposal.
I wouldn't *really* claim the Dom is underpowered, i'm happy to have less mez effectiveness than a Troller, especially as it's balanced out by Domination, i just think that giving Doms a weaker damage secondary is a little imbalanced. I'm not asking for Blaster primary damage, just a small boost.

I'm in Siren's a lot, and when I'm there I'm constantly in fights. I still have a single target Hold (Mag3), I have a cone Confuse, an Immob, and AoE Knockdown/Slow, I use 2 ranged attacks and a melee; it's not as if I'm off to the side somewhere building Dom, my Holds are just as effective as a Controller (shorter duration). Anything that doesn't have Mezz resist I can hold in one shot - Blasters, Defenders, Controllers so I don't see how Dominators are so much less effective without Domination at using control powers, in fact duration is much less important in PvP than it is in PvE. If I'm in an extended fight I can hit Domination and then I can hold virtually anything.
As far as the Assault powers go I'd also like to see a boost with them in some way.
I see, but usually i'm not in extended fights. Even the few times i can remember being in them i don't recall ever having my Domination build up sufficiently. I think it's because there's still so few Doms that regularly PvP, if there is one in a fight he's usually a primary target, or at least perceived as an easier target than a Brute or a Stalker which pretty much goes without saying.
I'm sure travel powers affect this a lot if i think about it, but i'm happy with fly. I really could do with speccing Arctic Air out in favour of Stealth, and take it later instead for Warburg, hmm...

It's not easy but it's possible. MMs and corruptors are just as much targets I think probably because Doms are underestimated. The thing about Siren's is that most of the time the hotspots are ignored and the place is more like a freeform arena - which is fun in itself but there's nothing much there that gives you any sense of doing something other than dueling, especially since getting involved with the tug-of-war is an easy way to debt (that is, more than you usually get in Siren's, PvP = debt to me). I'm hoping that Issue 7 will develop the good stuff Cryptic have done already in BB,Warburg & Siren's.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not so sure about Stealth. Stalkers have ruined it for villains since heroes are now aware of having to raise their Perception any villain using standard stealth is going to be spotted a mile away by anything that gives +Per. Artic Air looks like a great PvP power.
Da, before i started levelling my Corr (which there are STILL to few of in PvP) i used to spend hours at the hotspots and Winter long ago reached the debt cap for 37 (which is 115k, if anyone wants to know), but it was totally worth it as Doms can easily sway a fight so long as you cast, run, cast, run...
As for Arctic Air, it doesn't really sync well with fly and on the rare occasions that villains actually group up and work together standing in the middle of them with a big shiny cloud under your feet makes you an obvious target. Not that you would, but keeping it on at the same time as Fly means you may as well be shouting 'I'm here come gank me!'.
It is true that more heroes have specced into Perception powers now, but i still find the overall lack of them quite surprising, so i still think Stealth is extremely viable in PvP. It's the villains who are going to have to start speccing into the Leadership pool soon anyway, as there are more and more Stealthed/Invis and Defianced Blasters running about the zone two-shotting all the squishies.
P.S: As i mentioned in a previous post, i think Arctic Air would be more useful in Warburg for those pesky ground based Stalkers, but i don't spend much time there right now. Also, in case anyone was interested, it is -Stealth and not +Perception =)
So I took a short trip to Sirens Call today, with my lvl 24 Garv/Energy dominator. Mostly to get the combat stealth power from the parole mission, but also to try and se how my character would do in PvP. I will admit that I an not a big PvP fan and never have been, and do not know all the trick of the trade, and never will.
Well none of my holds seems to stick. The only heroes I found though seemed to me Regain stackers with super speed and super jumping. So they likely had a good deal of hold/imob resistance, likely used brake free's. Even with Domination and power up I could not hold them.
Nevertheless, it got me thinking. There is no way that I could out damage thair regain/healing abilities, and even when they were slowed from a hold/imob that did no stick I could not stay away from them on the ground do the super speed. And while I could hover/fly to get off the ground, they could still get up to me rather easily with Jumping and only needed a few hits to kill me.
So how do Dominators do in PvP in general, witch tactics are the most successful. Generally I wand to know if I should ever bother getting involved with PvP again.
