logging
The OP announced in game that he will start a discussion about it (the MM he is talking about is me in that case), but i would have prefered if you described the situation more in detail.
Well, i was fooling around with my PFF, no serious fights going on and several melee heroes trying to kill me while i let them. All in a civilized and nice way, while i was exchanging /t's with Marquand.
So Mar plays a storm defender and joined the others. He used snowstorm and hurricane, so i wasnt able to move, or only at a snails pace till i ran into hurricane.
Actually i could do nothing, while the heroes werent able to penetrate my PFF often enough to kill me either (cant give you reason why they had so much trouble (no acc insp, no -def debuff, i dont know)).
So i was held at one place for at least 5 mins, they had plenty of time to kill me, but there was no progress. So what i am supposed to do to, please the heroes?
Since it was a stalemate and it was not in my hands to end it, i simply logged off and back in to be able to move again.
Had a short discussion afterwards with Mar, again in a civilized manner, but i couldnt agree to his accusations
I see his point when i had logged as i was about to die, but as said, stalemate going on for a long time and no end in sight.
There are several ways to pin someone down with certain powers, for example hurricane + corners, and i wouldnt like to see such a timer as you suggest, since it makes some new ways of ganking possible.

Don't mean to pick faults (and I wasn't there so your description might not describe the situation correctly) but if you were about to die it wasn't stalemate, and an end was most definitely in sight!
Got to say I was there as my scrapper venomo and all I can say is dont blam you as it was getting very boring. Theres never a Rad or Kinetics deffender around when you need em.

Sorry but i would like to know how all this relates. You are saying then that if someone is using hurricane and cornering loggin off is the solution?Really bad advice or attempt to link the one with the other i think.
Also if you were about to die then you certainly seem to have picked a really bad moment to log off.

Mhh i assumed it would be more clear, but please read as:
I WOULD see his point IF (so i was NOT about to die) i had logged as i was about to die, but as said, stalemate going on for a long time and no end in sight.
To Tainted: yes, when i am cornered with hurricane, telekinesis or similar powers and i am pinned down unable to do anything there for several minutes without losing enough health to be defeated, then i would like to have the option to log.
So you say some strange minded person should have the right to corner me there for his delight for, lets exaggerate to make my point clear, 1 hour without me having any chance?
And thanks Rock Eagle, i m glad someone can approve that i really waited a long time before i logged.

You didnt say this. Of course situations like the one you describe is griefing but during battles where some targets need to be removed cause they are high threats in the battle there is a chance for pinning actually down for an amount of time till the team actually comes to make the kill.
Given the situation you described now yeah logging off would be the best thing to do...

Should we have such a timer in COH/V?

No. It's a griefer's charter.

To be honest i find logging off while you are engaged in a fight to be somewhat annoying. I'm a */ff mastermind as well and i know how it is to be pinned down in pff with a squad of heroes trying to kill you, but i would never log because i know eventually i will die, so why deprive the heroes of the bounty/rep they can get from me after they spent a considerable amount of time/endurance/inspirations to be able to hit me ?
The thing i did when i got my first respec was to get teleport as an emergency travel power when i get into these situations. I just don't see how logging off while someone is trying to kill you is ok in pvp.
Ps. I'm sorry if i offended but i played a pvp oriented mmorpg a long time ago where logging off was actually an exploit used to get out of battles quick and come back and be invulnerable for a few precious seconds. Probably i'm not over the annoyance it created for me
I highly doubt that Amazon did it purposely as we have had many a battle, and i consider AW to be a good PvPer as we have had many a good battle.
To be totally honest, if i was stuck there for anymore than 4 minutes, and wasn't killed i would complain and do exactly the same
(Amazon, i'm Stryke Force btw )

Um, well, Amazon logged out on purpose, he says he did.
Amazon wasn't being accused of griefing, at least not by me. I was saying a 'combat timer' was a wonderful griefing tool.

Considering it can take 10, 20 minutes to take down an AV, I'd say you should give it a good bit longer than 4 minutes if you don't want to be viewed as a cheat.
However, feel free to ignore the opinion of a non-PvPer.

Sorry, i cut short was i was saying i think. I meant Amazon probably didn't log out on purpose to avoid a death.
And in a PvP zone a lá Siren's Call 4 minutes can be a lifetime
It dose seem that Amazon is getting picked on a bit here but if I was him/her I think I would of logged as well when there was about 8 heros attacking you for about 30mins and they couldnt even hit you. It toke people ten mins to get him/her down to low hps and that was only after he/she started logging.
I think I would of logged as well if I couldnt move after all that time. I think me needs tactics to deal with them PFF.
Tactics? Nah, i'm sure as Amazon will probably remember, PFF isn't always a saving grace. Especially against a toggle dropper...
Why log when you can just turn pff off ? die and revive at hospital. Saves a lot of time and you don't really lose anything if you die.
Even with pff i've died loads of times, when i know i could of escaped if i really wanted to...but isn't this game supposed to be for fun ?..what fun would the heroes have if i'd just stay all the time in pff and run each time i saw them or everytime i get held ( hurricane in bus stop or corners ) i'd log ? The game is supposed to be fun for both sides, not just for yourself ( I have my fun watching the heroes trying desperatly to get through my shield while my minions scratch their backs , and they have their fun when they actually manage to get pass pff and kill me ).
yes it is great fun when we pierce your damned bubble
**Acceptable "support" responses**
Its your fault
Its your computers fault
Its your ISPs fault
You got to hit em to drop there toggels Del.
You doubting my accuracy Rocky?
you use build up and aim wich is why I am getting Tactics as my mele dont stun people.

The key difference there is that most AVs have an insane number of hit points AND improved regeneration (hit points and endurance) over players... if you can't take someone out in 4 minutes in PvP, I'm not sure you ever will, unless something comes along to change the status quo (unless you have an absurdly long timer on a power that could make all the difference)...
Synaesthetix:if your mum wasn't already dead I would go kill her for bringing
you into the world
Hi
A hero team i was in locked down a MM who then logged and logged back in, simply to avoid all the debuffs which held him in place during our attack. I find this very very poor, I would just take the hit, and, if i felt the need, log out at the hospital or go pve instead. Some MUDs have a fight timer, where u cant log out unless you havent been attacked for a certain number of seconds. Should we have such a timer in COH/V?
