I though the pvp zones wer basically no holds barred anything goes areas.

If it 1 v 1 you want isnt that what the arean is for?

[/ QUOTE ]

But the PvP zones are bigger and offer the potential of a wider battle including the ability to run and hide if need be, so is it SO surprising for people to want to fight specific people in one the zones?

And if the PvP zones WERE no holds barred, anything goes areas there'd be no such word as "griefing".

Bah! People are just lazy. Arena is too far away. Then you have to go trough all that trouble setting the arena even etc. oh and ofcourse you can't get away as easily when you start losing.

Conclusion. Laziness + greater risk of death = pvp zone 1vs1 forum threads.

Kinda disagree with you. I wouldn't call it lazyiness - leaving sirens results in you losing your bounty.

I think SinghMC point is a very valid one. Fine carry on ganking your enemy but they will soon leave if the playing field does not even up. It is no fun when completly outnumbered and one on ones is the only real way to keep the fun going until more people arrive.

One on ones are fine in my book as long as they are out of the way.

Would just like to add that i think this attitude of "If you want 1 on 1's go to the arena!!!!" sucks! Who are you people to tell anyone that they cannot have a 1 on 1? Who are you people to tell anyone that the pvp zones are not for 1 on 1's?
People can and will continue to have 1 on 1's in the zones whether some of you who complain about it like it or not.
Some of you think that the zones are not for 1 on 1's but have intelligent discussions about why you think this is so. It's the ones who bandy about the "If you want a 1 on1 go to the arena!" that piss me off. Are these people ruining your enjoyment of the game? No. Are these people affecting your game at all? No. If they are your bounty and they are involved in a 1 on 1, as i've said before kill them if you must clear it. But to simply attack because you are offended that people have the audacity to have a duel in YOUR zone is off IMO!.

Wow anger much!!! Dont think anyone is saying peeps cant duel in pvp zone. I think the point is dont complain if someone comes and interferes.

In my Previous post I said if you want one on ones isnt that whats the areans for. I probably should have included the word uniterrupted in it.

As far as i've seen there have been a hell of a lot more threads/people in game complaining about the 1 on 1's than people having 1 on 1's complaining about being attacked. Personally if someone attacks while i'm involved in them i will politely tell them it's a 1 on 1 and ask to be left alone. If they persist i'll stop fighting and kill them instead.
There have been countless threads on this subject and to be honest i'm a bit sick of hearing the old Go to the Arena response. There are no rules in the pvp zones therefore nothing to say that 1 on 1's aren't acceptable (the same arguement that some use to say that they have no place in the zones). It all comes down to common curtesy, some have it some dont.

1vs1 duels or fixed matches are VALID even in the PVP zones. It doesnt matter whether the actual rules say you can attack anyone of the opposing side that you wish, people are free to fight as they want, that includes focusing on a single target. However, this also means that whilst two people have resolved to have a duel, this doesnt mean you have to wait until they are finished to attack the opposing teams member.

In the end, it is considered good manners by the duellists, if you wait until the battle has finished, but due to the nature of the beast (PVP zones), it is not griefing if you interrupt the fight to try take them out. Whilst 1vs1 fights are valid, so is interrupting them. Interrupting them is not griefing, nor harassment, it is the zone policy of hero vs villain. Due to the zone rules, you can teleport people into drones, you can pin people against objects with knockback auras of sorts, you can take a team of 8 (originally) high levelers against a single (originally) low leveller, and that is still not harassment.

The PVP zones are rough, that is a given. Any and all morals and personal codes of conduct are optional, provided you are within the rules of the game, do as you will. That is the way the game goes.

The problem here, originates from people trying to impose their personal code of conduct over someone elses personal code of conduct. In the end, the only code of conduct you HAVE to obey, is the one set by the devs. No personal verbal harassment, no using map exploits. Petition those you feel are crossing that line, and ALSO alert someone with relative authority through the forums.

For all the discussions we can have, nothing will change unless the devs give it the thumbs up. Unfortunately, with the direction half of these threads take, I have to question how useful they are. It does let us get stuff off our chests, but they do attract a lot of heated, aggravated replies.

To summerise, provided you follow the rules set by the devs, meaning those which apply directly to the game, and those you are directly made aware of by someone of authority... then you have nothing to worry about. However, most additional courteousy will likely be appreciated. Its not necessary, but its often appreciated.

Petition those who break the rules in a manner that offends you, or prevents people from having fun, and bear in mind that trying to enforce your own morals over someone elses in-game is tantamount to harassment too.

Where is the love, people? :P
A little common respect costs nothing, and takes a lot less effort than descending into in-game flamewars. We will always gripe, but the difference between a good player and a bad one, is that the good players often take it with a pinch of salt, and never make their remarks (or take them) personally.

Its a game, its supposed to be for fun. Can we work towards that, now? ^_^

Sorry Im not telling you that you cant one on one what Im saying is that you cant complian about any one else jumping in as its a open PvP zone. Just because you want a one on one dont mean your going to get it.

In the open PvP zones every one is fiar game simple you want to be able to have a one on one where no one will interupt you you got to use the arena its that simple.

I don't expect to never be interrupted. I take it for granted that at some point i will be

Perhaps this thread wasnt the place to vent my feelings on the subject as i admit it is a fairly tame one compared to some of the others that have sprung up over time.

When a whole zone stops pvping to watch a duel imho is not a good thing and certainly saying "Hey i am trying to watch the duel!!! Cant u see" is no excuse. Next step is to hand pop corn and beverages to the spectators and the pvp zones to be renamed to Arena. For spectating and duels there is the arena and the observator mode. I respect the duelists but having people on top of that say "OMG CANT U SEE I AM TRYING TO WATCH"..well omg no i cant see it.

From this post and others of yours it looks more to me that you think 1 on 1's have a place there one minute and not the next. Which is it?

It looks to me that i dont really like it but i respect it. And if you read the posts carefully its not the 1vs1 i dont like but the mentallity of some of those engaging 1vs1 thinking that this obliges the whole zone to it. 15 min ago someone started screaming on broadcast because he was attacked while watching a 1vs1. Like i said i not mind the 1vs1 and usually i not attack them unless i not realise its 1vs1 or miss the announcement. But the spectators are all up for a treat. especially when the 1vs1 is heal right across the villains base on the beach. Arena and observator is for 1vs1 and full spectator mode. As for the the "who are you to tell me i cant do 1vs1" of course noone can tell you that you cannot do 1vs1 but who is anyone to tell the rest that you cannot attack a 1vs1 when the zone was not designed for it and there are specific zones for duels and spectators. Works bothways.

It was due to seeing a number of posts that used terms like 'The arena is the place for 1v1's not the the PvP zone' that prompted me to make the OP that I did.

I do find it funny that people always say that the arena is for 1v1, ignoring the fact that it also caters for teams, when the big event to get attention/attract more players to it was the Pentad TEAM contest not a 1v1 contest.

The arena offers a safe 1v1 OR team environment to PvP in which you can control the conditions and restrict completely those that can enter, where as the PvP zones offer an environment for 1v1 – XvX (max that the zone/server can handle) that is uncontrolled (apart from the auto exemp/sk and level restrictions for each zone) and where anyone can come and go from without invite.

As my OP mentioned - team PvP could be just as easily done in the arena as could 1v1. However you do not hear people saying take team PvP to the arena as that is what it was made for (could have forgone making the PvP zones and instead added more stuff to the PvE game if that was to be the case). Why is that - because they realise it is more fun in the zone. The same can also apply to 1v1.

There have been a number of posts showing there are reasons for people doing 1v1 in the Pvp zones such as zoning while on the way to an arena (both in time taken and chance of losing connection - what with all the zoning issues people have), loss of bounty due to leaving the PvP zone in the first place or where the sides are outnumbered in favour of one side - 1 against many , where you all know the one stands no chance, is not really much fun. Most also mentioned in my OP.

Those duelling do NEED TO ACCEPT that there will (most likely) always be someone who will interrupt their duel and that those interrupting are in their right to do so at the end of the day. Happily most do seem to accept this. Most are also aware that to limit the interruption they need to take it away from the main source of action and travel lanes to a quiet corner/spot. Broadcasting that you are having a duel, does work to cut down those that may interrupt you but I think it would be more reliable to use local as not all people have see broadcast other side (hero/villain) enabled and where as I know local comes up in bubble that can be seen onscreen I am not sure if broadcast does. See Synestra’s post in this thread for some possible binds if you think you may be 1v1ing a bit in the PvP zonesand need them. This however does not mean that the person attacking you has to stop once you have said you are duelling - is their personal choice to stop the attack in the end.

At the end of the day we all know what PvP stands for . (if you do not – shout up and no doubt someone or even many will answer). Maybe we should have dedicated Team v Team zones instead of PvP ones! Hmm i sense a possible topic for a post on suggestions in there somewhere

I'm still confused. You say you don't mind 1 v 1 in one sentence then another you say that the Arena is for 1 v 1. In the arena you can have 1 v 1, you can have large battles. Ditto for the zones. Neither is specifically for one or the other and there has been no Dev saying so either. I doubt very much ANY rules will be put in place to stop 1 v 1's as theres no way they will alienate people by doing this. Besides it could never be enforced. Same as your CoC and other abreviations for things i can only guess at, if these were put in place they would in no way enforce them... they couldnt. No matter how many petitions that get sent over real griefing in any part of the game i am yet to hear about anything ever being done.

As you no doubt know and if not the other regulars of the zones will, i am not one for screaming when i get attacked in 1 v 1's, and i certainly never preach to anyone that they should leave 1 v 1's alone. I simply search for curtesy and when i find none i attack the offending person.... one dead hero/villain later ... problem solved and back to the 1 v 1.

Perhaps this sounds like a personal attack on you TG but its not, u just happened to reply to me on this subject. And i do truly find confusion in you various posts as to your stance on the subject. Yes you can clarify like in your last post by saying its not the 1 v 1's that you dislike but the moaners. But in the same posts and others you say things like 1 v 1 belongs in the arena. Does you bum get sore sitting on that fence?

There was a guy on yesterday screaming profanity because someone had the audacity to kill him while he was resting.... the horror!

The complaint against 1 on 1 isn't that it happens (fine) or that it is an a pvp zone (fine), its that there is often bad feeling expressed when someone interrupts it. I don't expect to see duels going on in a pvp zone, so if I see a hero fighting a villain I will buff the hero and try and plant the villain. I won't be trying to grief and will leave people alone if asked to. There just seems to be a feeling that this tension could generally be avoided by using the arena.

In the case of some one using profanities then all who see it should petition it. You will never stop someone moaning about something (hurricane, tp foe, insp usage, stalkers, 1v1 going on in the zone and the interupting of 1v1) but when they take it to the level of using profanities or personal remarks/attacks they are breaking well set rules on the use of the chat channels.

Yes using the arena would avoid the tension, just as removing the PvP zones would, but who should go there - the ones doing 1v1 or those not wanting to encounter the tension? (see my last post 2 above yours on the topic of arena use)

Ok i think the answer is obvious to this.Let me explain what i think and this is my pesonal opinion. If the devs intended the PvP zones for 1vs1 duals they would have introduced a flag system or something like this. The arena has clearly a duel system which serves people that want to do without anyone harassing 1vs1 battles with a variety of rules. You are trying to tell me that in a zone like Sirens where the goal and objective of the zone is around massive conflicts *points at hotspots* the essence of the zone is duelling? In fact Sirens is the most clear zone in terms of what the purpose is there. All Heroes vs all Villains. Whoever brings more victories brings control over the zone. Thats the eesence. I dont see any mobs throwing gloves at each other asking for duels and the rest of Arachnos spectating cheering and throwing pop corn at the Longbow watching and doign emotes like "gimme a B-A-L-L-I-S-T-A what that spell?goooo Ballista."

The objective in there is crystal clear. Annihilate the opposing force. now if the opposing force chooses to step in zone and start "Hey u wanna duel me right there where everyone can see us?" and when the duel starts the broadcasts is filled up with "OMG u ****************************" then no i dont want that cause thats what goes on right now. If the devs want actually 1vs1 in PvP zones which they dont since they didnt introduced team based PvP to have pvp zones for duels, then they should introduce flaged system or link the arenas with an entrance from the PvP zones or put Arena terminals in the PvP zones. Cause now its getting beyond annoyance to listen to everyone how he reacts after someone attacks by accident on a duel that is taking place right in fron of the beach across the villains base.

That of course is my own personal opinion and comes from my own experiences with duelists. Not that i havent had good ones. There are people like Singh who make sure everything goes ok and are a bliss to watch duel and usually does it without trying to mess with the zone. But try see the majority and how they set the duels and then you ll realise why the whole 1vs1 doesnt appeal much. Because its 1vs1 in a pvp zone and the 2 vs the rest of the zone in broadcast name calling.

No different than the usual name calling and griefing that results from the normally imbalanced conflicts that happen there every day. Every night someone loses the plot and starts shouting and swearing because they are outnumbered and being ganked. To be honest i'm starting to not really care now anyway, my interest in the game is slowly leaking away. Mostly because i'm bored, CoV didn't add anything new enough to hold me for longer than a couple of months after having already done it all over and over for the previous 8 months on CoH. In fact it was probably the PvP zones that kept me here for as long as this, but unfortunately the attitudes of people in the zones (yes i include those with their OMG! shouts when attacked during duels) and all the little hitlers are whats making my mind up to quit altogether as even PvP is becoming less and less fun every time.

Zeph.

Actually i don't see any problem in having 1vs1 duels, nor in the "griefing" players tend to do when intrerupted. Intrerupting a duel shows bad manners, that's all there is to it. The devs did not specify if duels are or not allowed, they didn't specify the zone was only for team battles ( since you can go inside without a team ), they left the zone for us to make what we can out of it.

Besides that, i've never whitnessed a "omg you ****" broadcast when people got intrerupted in duels, at most they said it wasn't cool or tried to repeat he/she had a duel.
