how good is whirlwind as a defensive power in pvp? more specifically for an empath who doesnt attack, just looking for a bit of defense

After respecin into whirlwind i find that its a very good defense power but i mainly use it 2 avoid any rootin problems with long animated attacks. The only problem wiv it is that its still a big end sucker and that 3 endreds r needed if u want 2 use it 4 any length of time. Other than that its also an incredibly fun power to use in PvE as well

Whirlwind is great in PvE and a must in PvP.

I found in PvE it wasn't sustainable with a Scrapper with Quick Recovery and Stamina, so I'd advise against it if you are a melee toon.

The ideal slotting to reduce endurance consumption is 3xEnd reds and 3x Knockback, Knockbacks significantly reduce the frequency of enemy hits, saving you endurance. If you are using it for avoiding rooting I think the knockbacks may not be necessary.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

In PvE its situational, not a perma shield. But you can migrate alot of damage with it. I have soloed 3-4+ Bosses on my blaster without taking any damage using Whirlwind to keep em knocked up.

its annoying enough that it was the edge against a pure pvp build i made on test with a certain pvp obsessed paragon defender, also the 'cant hit moving target with long animation melee attacks' bug doesnt help, i really feel for ppl who suffer from this bug regularly.

if u have SS anyways. or aent happy with ur current travel, give it a shot

I love whirlwind - it's a major defensive power in pvp (noob stalkers will run into it and bounce off, more advanced players will stay just out of range so you have to keep moving if they are invisible, or make sure you stay as close to them as possible if they are visible).

In PvE as a defender it's a good 'emergency' power if the team gets in trouble.
