my gripe playing with some defenders

omg this has to be said "one of the most important people u can give powers like clearmind to on a team is the other defender" as soon as it runs out or before.

Its as if there is quite a few defenders out there would like to see the other defender die or miss heals, whatever i dont believe that "i wanna prove i am the better defender" should exist either. But ive seen this way too often too many times. i'm not accusing anyone or everyone I just hope that anyone who may of never realised might get the idea.

I hear ya, being a kinetic def myself i do like to give my fellow defenders in teams Density and keep it on them. As i know we lack protection ourselves in form of stun/kb etc resists. Nothing worse then wobblings around from a malta stun during the whole fight just a small example

I was once on an 8-person team with another empath and a /empathy Controller, fighting DE. Despite reepated teamwipes, and me calling repeatedly to be CMed (whilst trying my best to keep the entire team CMed, healed, and otherwise buffed), I didn't manage to get a CM until I sent a tell to the Controller. I think he wasn't watching team chat. The other empath, meanwhile, was clearly watching and participating in chat, but flat-out ignored my suggestions and requests to keep me CMed, and help keep the rest of the team CMed. And I checked, he did have it.

I'm still at a loss as to why someone would act in such a manner.

I always CM'ed other defenders in my teams when playing big Kah, just seemed like common sense to me

Thanks for the kind words Shannon. Alas tho the empath know as Kah-Ra Kaah is no more. There was a slight accident with her

If someone is a good defender they would buff the other defenders. They are part of the team too. One who wants to prove themselves by ignoring the other defenders is only proving they suck. Common sense.

So this thread is 'I teamed with an idiot'. Stick him on ignore. Bad players are bad players, whatever the AT.

no this thread is i have teamed with many people who dont offer a fellow defender clearmind

I always thought when playing my empath on a large team with another empath that some of my buffs were best suited to the other empath... but maybe that's me...

adrenalin boost - was a godsend to other empaths in tough missions (and before vigilance) (or to any healing related controller)

clearmind - a must give buff to other empaths

RA and Fortitude were for the fighters

I dont have clear mind but I will always try to keep the other defender alive by any mean necesary, in hopes they'd do the same for me. We have the lowest hits these days so it doesn't take much to kill us.

As a kinetic, another defender is hopefully somewhere where I can't help much... but speed boost goes on everyone unless they ask to be left out. With an empath I usually operate as a forward healer and buffer for scrappers, tankers and blappers and leave the controllers and blasters st the back to the other defender.

I've had teh good fortune to play with some other good Defenders, especially Empaths. Whenever I've been doubled up it's usually been with either Kathaan or Black Medic and both are good at what they do.

It also helps that we are on Teamspeak as it's much easier to shout out "Stunned" or "Held" or "ClearMind" when you want one.

But as a general rule I always put my clear mind priority on the other defender, and do it as often as possible even if it stacks up. As an Empath stuns/holds/immobs are the only things that really bother me and hence I stack up on Break Free's before every mission just in case.

After the defenders I usually then concentrate on the Blasters and Controllers and leave the Scrappers and Tanks to their own devices, only CM-ing if they shout up they need it. Most of the Tanks and Scrappers I play with regularly have their own inherent protection against those effects so I don't waste the time and effort buffing them like that.

And as I said Teamspeak means they can let me know the INSTANT they are held and I can CM them a moment later. Best invention EVER Teamspeak.

As for the other buffs, well I guess like most empaths (and correct me if I'm wrong) I don't even watch the battle that closely, I tend to be keeping the majority of my attention on the Team tab and those little green and blue bars.

I tend to base my Fort, RA and AB buffs on what's needed by the team. For example if everyone is looking ragged for End I'll try and gather them up for a Rec Aura drop. If I'm struggling to keep the team 'green' I'll try and get everyone together for a Regen Aura drop (although I often pop this at the same time as Recovery!)

If someone misses out on the RA drops or if one particular member is really low on end and getting his or her butt kicked, or is facing a boss or similar, then they'll get AB as a matter of priority.

unless i'm in a team with 7 squishies i will try to give perma clear mind to all squishies on any mission where the enemies have holds or stuns, altho empaths shouldn't really be anywhere close to the battle to get held....

That's certainly true, I just cannot imagine trying to play an online game without it. It kind of surprises me how few people in CoH use it, I'm used to games where almost everyone uses some sort of voice coms system.

Regarding use of status protection buffs, I tend to go for other defenders first. I have two defenders, one emp and one kin, I have to admit the kinetic is the one I really love playing. In large teams I don't attempt to keep clear mind on everyone in most circumstances. I certainly don't attempt it with Increase Density. I'll wack it on when there's nothing else to do, and generally stick it on every one who needs it between groups, but kinetics in particular is a very busy set to play, it's not practical to get obsessive about keeping ID on all squishies if you've got more than 2 or 3 in my experience. The only real exception to that is when fighting malta and carnies, when I will keep status protection buffs coming thick and fast and make sure I keep it on the tanker, despite the amusement of seeing someone held for the first time in 30 levels.

Generally though, if people get held, I'll sort it. ID goes on with speed boost so people only get it half the time, if someone gets stunned/held etc then I'll reapply, clear mind goes on all squishies while moving from group to group, again, reapplied if needed. Both my defenders fly while fighting, I find the arial view helps me keep track of what's going on and who needs what when, also helps me anticipate a little. I do expect good players to be carrying a couple of break frees as well though, in case of a real emergency. I certainly wouldn't leave home without at least that in one of my blasters or defenders, no matter how much status protection was available in the team.

I try not to buff people for several reasons:

1. If they are taking damage then I'm sorted for endurance which is the most important thing.
2. How will I get the healing badges if heroes are keeping their armour toggles up?
Lots. How will they ever get the 'being held' badges with all the status protection. They will thank me for it in time.

Bye now, I have to go and take my medication.

I beg to differ. Empaths should be there where they are needed the most, whether it is behind the meat walls, healing controllers and blasters, or right in the middle of a horde of nasties who're whacking poor tankers and scrappers.

I generally try to keep all characters without status protection powers Clear Minded at all times if we are facing villains with several different kinds of mez attacks (is mez the right word?), such as thornies, carnies and Malta.

You'd like to think people were smart enough to figure out that protecting the person putting CM on THEM is in their own best interest...

My old Empath was like a marathon runner, SS got me everywhere I needed to be in the nick of time as sometimes the teams can geet split up over mobs if they don't talk to each other.

That can sometimes mean running straight through a mob to get to my friends in time, though I have to admit with my Super Speed I don't get attacked very often. That and I'm a speed freak and have it slotted

Which again is where TeamSpeak comes in dead handy. I'd just shout out if I was getting aggro and some friendly Scrapper or Tanker would come to my rescue and drag the aggro away again.

It makes such a difference playing with a) vocal communication and b) a team that is both familiar with you and knows their roles.

My travel to level 50 was made so much easier by these things.

imo teamspeak has good and bad points, good point - instant communication, bad point - you can get people drolling on about politics or something you may find offensive etc. However as a defender i dont wait for people to call "zzz" i clearmind ppl whenever the last clearmind drops or before.

If i havent reclearminded you i maybe in a situation when i cant do a thing, (this is possibly with another defender having clear opportunity to cm me beforehand, - i dont expect to have to type zzzz to a defender or type at all whilst i am in a mission). I am not a frontline healer this is to limit how much looking after i may need and i can spot heal mostly anyway. Only if the tanker has herded the team into danger or wasnt allowed to properly aggro manage i then may have to flyby heal aura. I prefer flybys to keep my frontline healing (where i am in most danger of aoes mezzes etc) and my personal need for cm to a minimum.

I'd say i am 20% watching the game because i am 80% reading the buffs - if u havent got clearmind i already know about it and you will get it as soon as i can give it to you without you asking for it, but i can only give it when i get a chance cos healing others comes first. So saying "zzzzz" to me is a waste of time whilst i have to concentrate on heals. These people saying "zzzz" to me are "always" the ones who never waited for buffs. I have an order of priority - defender - controller - blaster - scrapper (for perception/fear mainly) - tanker (for perception/fear mainly).

If other defenders were reading buffs to know who has what and who needs what and tries to give it to them as soon as they can i wouldnt need to type zzz or use teamspeak etc and id be able to just get on with my job as a defender.i dont like to have to type to ask for cm as a defender (to type may cost a life). Also if you sent me a tell it may well be ignored as i dont like to reply.

Hmm, this is slightly off-topic, I hope you don't mind.

I find people who type 'zzz' when they're held, stunned ect. extremely annoying. I have always interpreted 'zzz' as a sign of sleeping, and as we all know, sleeps can be removed by several means: either by clearing the minds of those asleep, healing them or letting them suffer damage. If I have to make a choice whether I spent the next several seconds locked in CM's animation, unable to do anything, or simply casting heal other, I always choose the healing. But if they're instead stunned, I just wasted a precious heal on them, a heal others would have needed as well.

If only people would always say the exact status effect they're suffering from, I would be really happy.

typing zzz just gives an indication that you are out of the fight for whatever reason.

I've teamed with enough people who have tried to type "immoblisedledss" when by the time they have typed it the hold has worn off.
