For GGers - Here comes the Banan... err Total Cat!

Okay, tomorrow we get Global Chat, hereafter refered to as Total Cat or TC. We've been after an OOC channel for GG since TC was available on the US servers and we need a name for it. I suggest "GGOOC".

I assume that channels are effectively deleted once all subscribers leave, so having a name it's difficult to misspell seems like a good idea. First person on creates it, makes it public and then anyone at GG can join it. We keep OOC chatter in the Gchannel, and Local becomes a purely IC channel (aside perhaps, from spelling corrections).

Thoughts?

Oh, slightly off-topic, but related, for those who haven't noticed, the Email system now works correctly and tells you you have mail when you log in your toon. It now qualifies as a useful feature for leaving 'voicemail' or similar messages for people who are offline.

Posts are OOC unless noted to be IC, or in an IC thread.

Actually, I -think- I saw it said that, even if you log out of the game, you still count as being a member of a channel, meaning that the channel will persist even when we all log off, so it should only need to be created and joined once.

Either way, finally, we have our OOC chat channel!!!!

Yep, that's right. You subscribe to the channel and as long as their's 1 subscriber, the channel will persist. Being online is not necessary!

Remember though, when you login, your chat handle will be the name of the toon you login with. This can be changed ONCE, so decide what one you want carefully!!

Cool.

I still think something very simple for the channel name is a good idea.

True... As people need to remember it to join it anyway, so your idea is a good one: GGOOC.

I'm at work, so if someone could oblige once the servers come back up? Don't forget to make it public!!!

As it's Total Cat, and as a completely random reference to "Are You Being Served?", perhaps we could call it Galaxy Girl's Puss-?

On another note, an in- or out-of-character channel for locating other roleplayers at other times might be advisable? Is there any limit to the numbers who can join a TC channel?

[/ QUOTE ]There is aparently a limit, but that's very high. Also, i think you can only be logged on 5 channels at a time.

Of course.. the most important thing about Total Cat is.. We'll FINALLY be able to keep track of Z!

I can confirm that there is a limit to the number of channels you can join--on my American account, one of my fiends is unable to join due to having reached his maximum, although I'm not sure how many that is--unless the TC has differing functionality to GC: if it does, that would be the cat's whiskers! :P

If you were to make the channel at tonights GG, you could also invite all attending at the time from the context menu (again, assuming UKTC=USGC)

I'm at home most of the day, I'll do it once Union's back up.

Okay, Global Chat's all nice and pretty (except for the pig ugly font colour...), but needs a bit of setting up on the player's end, aside from setting a user handle.

All of the chat commands can be accessed by right-clicking on your chat window, same as you'd do in order to edit your chat tabs. New options there include "Join Channel" "Leave Channel" "Create Channel", etc.

Handily enough, here is where you also get a list of all the chat channels you're currently a member of, and to send messages in them, you just click on the as you would a normal chat channel.

However, you do have to edit your chat tab to include yoiur Global Chat channels, on every character, otherwise you can't see the messages from it.

The Friends window now has a nice little drop-down menu letting you select friends lists for the server, for Global, for any chat channels you're a member of, and also a Global Ignore list.

The only things I currently can't find out are the limits to how many people can be in any given channel, and how many channels you can be a member of at any one time.

Hey guys. Now we have our OOC channel, I'm thinking it might be an idea to actually moderate it a little too, so it doesn't get out of hand?

First, the mods. Currently there are 4, ShadowGhost, Doc T, Zortel and myself. I have no issue with there being more but I suggest we try to keep it to responsible players who are in-game the most. What do you guys think?

Mods have several abilities, including silencing someone (so they can't talk in the channel, but still read it), or kicking them from the channel completely. Now obviously we do NOT want to do this unless we have no choice, but do we think up some guidelines to help us, or use leave it to mod discretion?

For myself, I would suggest things like:

1) Personal attacks against another player
2) Godmodding
3) Excessive use of bad language
4) Adult related material

To be unwanted in the channel, and as consequences, I'm thinking...

First offense, a request to stop
Second offense, an evening silenced
Third offense, kicked from the channel
Extreme cases could include petitioning also...

Any guidelines we come up with should also apply to the mods, with them losing mod status included!!

What do you guys think? I'm fully expecting and hoping we never have to moderate the channel as it should be a nice happy place, but as it's a public channel available over all the servers (and should remain so), we also don't want it turning into a hellhole...

So, an idea worth exploring maybe? Or should I just shush?

Sounds good to me, so long as random weird-talk isn't a crime

Have you paid your tribute yet?

but yes, I agree with the idea to mod the channel, to keep it fun for everyone (or atleast for most).
I don't think we'll have to act much on it (I might be a bit hopefull here).
And I don't always read what is being said, so if I'm on, and there's something going on that I, as mod, should know about... poke me a tell to keep an eye on the GGOOC channel
