Rip Off
100 prestige is a rip off? 3.2 million to upgrade to a larger plot and you're objecting about cosmetic items such as seats? You can earn enough prestige in an evenings play to equip a room with full roleplay/cosmetic items, so I dont understand? Sorry.
for me its an incentive for supergroups to merge into 75 people supergroups(not 8 people with close to 5 toons each). the more people u have the better u can make prestige. surely the game will be better that way if u think about the possible outcomes.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

How will having less SG's make the game better?
I would have thought the more the merrier, after all there are few huge super groups in other sourcers most seem to settle for a roster of between 4 and 20 members, with a high turnover of people into other groups.

Actually, you can get a 8x12 plot for 1.6 million or so. The 3 million prestige plot is 12x12.
have u seen the sg list, its long i wouldnt worry. sure u get ur 20 man ones and u also get ur 2 man ones. whatever people prefer, and all i am saying thats those who would prefer a 75 man sg may have more incentive for their personal reasons to make it happen.

One of the functions of a supergroup is to "provide" people for you to team with. In theory, the larger and more active the supergroup you're a member of, the more people available to team with you - and thus, surely improving the gaming experience.

This is one of the outcomes of having SGs but surely not the original intention. It's a superhero game. Superheroes have a tendancy in comics to form relatively small groups with rosters of 5-20 or so heroes who team up to face a common foe. Surely the intention in CoH was to create the opportunity to emulate this, and not say to create a situation where I hit level 10 and decide I want a base so I invite everyone I see into my group, give them no rights and get them working for me. This isn't City of Pyramid Schemes for god's sake!
I have 20 alts. All of them are in SGs and most of those SGs were spam invites. I'd rather be in a hollow SG than no SG - it's shallow but I like the change of colour. I don't know the people, I've never teamed with them and the chat channel is dead. That's not giving me access to insta-teams, that's not improving my game experience. All it's doing is paying for some schmuck's base.
Now, in CoV it makes sense for you to hire as many goons as you can, put them to work, create monster cash flow and build an underground lair. I can accept it for villains. But the dynamic should be different for heroes. I mean, influence, infamy and prestige can be explained in a role-playing context so how do you justify Captain Fantastic putting all his little sidekicks to work on the corner so he can buy a flat-screen TV? Is that heroic?
My personal idea of a supergroup (not necessarily what anyone else would expect but this is my idea)
75 ppl, they may split up into teams that are close knit but u have more chance of getting into a good team providing u havent had an sg leader that invited lvl 1's at atlas that walked by one fine day.
different kinds of people within the sg -
ppl who like to just have fun r good for team forming.
ppl who like badges these tend to be most reliable for tfs.
ppl who just like good xp, may be great company for badge lovers and dont mind just doin the badge lovers chosen arcs and missions unskin for bonus is a boost.
some may want atlas badge at lvl 7 to represent the sg in pvp in future and stand a chance at getting all accolades at earliest point to help with this with more ppl in an sg.
the more people the easier and quicker a base is made, after lvl 35 u can have a good base and afford to have good slots on your toon not sacrifice one for the other.
id like to c organised tfs that dont conflict with anything else organised ie i dont want to choose between a tf on coh and a tf on cov. i wanna do both!
organised badge hunts for achievements. help 7 other ppl get them while u r at it.
badge missions saved and offered for any1 who has missed them and would like to get them.
no babysitting! pl is an ok rare treat imo but some ppl seem to think they can get it all the time and have 10 lvls of their toon earnt by someone else. i must of done 30 drecks to gain influence for my other toons, for possible prestige exchange and to help out lower level people on their first toon with influence. those that sat in were mostly from other sgs i dont care how good they wont be at 50! dreck was not for fun or to win hearts of strangers.
what i know alot of sgs r:
lvl 50 morgues where half the toons dont get played
made so that once the sg ldr has hit 50 he/she has a whole world of ppl to pl the rest of his/her alts
or have ppl who think the sg ldr is there to do "everything" for them (there isnt a non soloable toon in the game and forming a team isnt hard)
i like to c ppl have somit to offer other ppl and not b totally out for themselves and an sg that can offer all kinds of ppl everything (over a space of time obviously).

1stly people join an s g for different reasons.
mainly the teaming aspect.some will no doubt join and want an active role in sg .
the base system has many features and the widesrceen tv is not a good example .these feature are of use to all sg, the base teleporter for example. makes long trips all the shorter
either way it benifits both parties.
I prefer the smaller supergroups of people you work well with and get on with.
Kinda like the Xmen, but with better outfits...and less sideburns.

I agree, the flat screen tv is a bad example, I was trying to pick something facetious to emphasise that CoH is rewarding consumerist behaviour that from an RP perspective is wrong on the hero side of things. From a gameplay perspective, again you're right - the facilities in a base do benefit all members but if the base is built by and for the SG owner who has spammed loads of low-levellers into joining and working for him then the members only get the benefits that the SG owner wants for himself - and what good is TP into a hazard zone that's 10 levels beyond my capabilities?
I consider myself pretty lucky, in that despite not playing often and the obvious abrasive personality issues I've gotten into a couple of decent SGs which, while I may not be a great contributer to them at least I can see that most of the members are working together, having a laugh and helping eachother out. I just feel that the way base-building works, any new players who don't know better are going to be put off this aspect of the game when they find that they've been invited to make up the numbers and earn some cash for a nameless faceless 'leader' who couldn't give a [censored] about them.
This is all terribly hippocritical of me, I know, as I intend to do exactly the same thing to any willing party I can find when I reform the my one-man SG The Rebel Appliance just as soon as I can get time to get the Wafflemaker back up to 10. But at least I know I'm wrong
Bottom line, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with big SGs, just that the way that they're artificially driving us towards creating large SGs in the same way we've been artificially 'encouraged' to diversify our power slotting rankles me.
Hear Hear!
Face it CoH and CoV isn't really MMORPG. They are MMOPVE/PG. At least not from looking at how they are designed. As it is now the main function for SGs is to make PvE and PvP easier in the form of finding teams etc. Bases are just an extention of that function in that it give SGs tools to become better at PvE and PVP, not to mention an additional PvP area in the form of raids.
But back to the topic of prices, 100 pres isn't so steep to pay for an item but can someone explain for me why I must pay 1000 in pres for an atique globe isntead of 100 that everything else cost? It still just a pecie of decoration.

My SG has 20 characters in it, mainly alts, so total number of actual players is 7 at the mo, we're all mates who've teamed from CoH, it's cosy. We know how each play and what time we'll all be on, it's how a supergroup should be in my opinion, friends all together for a common goal.
But, yeah, it's taken us weeks to get the Pr to just set up basic power and control, but it's good, we know we've EARNED those two items, another two weeks and we might be able to afford the mission supercomputer...
You'd think as we have the real life Ghost widow in our group they'd throw us some free stuff, but noooo.
Time to make a mob about RIP OFS its not fair of the cost of the base objects such as stairs, seats, lighting etc. so i have made this for a purpose to find why things are a rip off
