RPing a mute

Would it be impossible to RP a mute character (or at least a character with a severly limited vocabulary).

Nope. I've done it in the past before, in the case of Loamflower she communicated using gestures and buzzing sounds, Subject 77 at first couldn't speak well and had to use gestures and basic words. With some imaginateive /em text uses, it's quite possible and very fun.

I've seen Chamber, of X-men fame, RP'd on many forums. Of course, he has the advantage of communicating telepathically, but I don't see why a mute character without telepathy couldn't be RP'd.

If you make ample use of the ; command to indicate actions or even the limited emotes, you should be able to pull it off. You can let your RP'ing partner/group know as much or as little detail as you wish using just these two commands. No need for vocabulary at all.

With so many facial expressions and body language, there isn't much need for idle chatter

The command you want is /e

If you type "/e sits down"

You get

<insert name here> sits down

; /e and /em all do the same thing.

;sits down, stretching his legs out. = <Character Name> sits down, stretching his legs out. (In the chat window, the bubble above your head would say: sits down, stretching his legs out.)

The use of asterisks around social animations (even if not implemented) also helps bring forth a mute's point of view.
