For instance, in my characters:
Zortel is Zorielle Rolando, buisness woman, scientist and mother. She own ZorTel Industries along with her life partner, Tessa Rolando. Zorielle doesn't keep her identity a secret, because in her own words "If you keep something a secret, someone's bound to try and find it out."
She turns up at the statue either in costume or out, prefering to be called Zortel in costume and out of costume Mrs. Rolando, Zorielle, Zori (To close friends) or Mom, in the case of her daughter.

It's the 'personal identity' that ussually visits the GG statue

Disagree. People turn up as both and play as both.

Take Nevermore. Despite the fact that Alan Drake is terrible at remembering he's not a hero, Alan turns up independantly of Nevermore, and Alan tries quite hard to stop people discovering they are one and the same.

Velvet Vengence, actually changed her costume to hide her identity more. In costume, she wears a mid-length black wig which makes her look quite different to Anastasia Kade, who generally arrives with her vast amount of blonde hair. Anna never cared excessively about a secret ID, but she cares a little and tries to seperate them when dealing with strangers.

But those these 'pairs' of characters turn up as different entities as far as the majority of people attending know.

To be honest, one of the key parts to the super-hero mythos is the play-off between saving the world, and trying to keep somekind of normal existance. Not having that aspect of the genre available for roleplay would be boring, as far as I'm concerned.

Sara didn't so much make the choice as more or less was taught to be her hero ID (You think Aegis is her birth surname? ) as she was always taught that she had no right to a private life, as her life should revolve around her Duty. She's learned better, but still, she has no secret identity to speak of. Damia tried. Mostly because she wanted people to appreciate her the person, not Damia the broadsword-swinging regenerating combat wombat. That sort of slid into abeyance, as due to having to take action at GG once too often. Now she just doesn't bother to deny it.

Now, CoH does lend itself well enough to a very Aberrant view of superheroes (Hero as media star/celebrity as much as anything else) but its down to where you draw the balance point. The thing is, eiter extreme is perfectly valid, but the system makes it more difficult to do anything but either portray the hero side all the time, or to only have the hero aspect. For a game supposedly written by a bunch of roleplayers, they are, as we all know to our long-standing irritation, very lax about the tools needed to actually roleplay.

Please notice the apropriate use of the word "ussually".

Yes, Nevermore makes more apearances then Alan Drake.
But I see Anna more often then I do Velvet.

Hiki/Mina, it's ussually Mina that's at the statue, sometimes Hiki.

As for my Grav, she's there as both at the same time, but with the emphasis on her person, rather than the hero.

Does depend on the evening in question. Some nights we have everyone in costume, other nights it's alter-egos anonymous.

War Crow originally had an alter-ego, Dafydd Cerwys. Slowly, Crow stopped being Dafydd and started being Crow full time. Now Crow doesn't exist and the only version you'll see at GG is Dafydd, who's not the same person (yeah, okay, you have to be there). And Dafydd isn't even a hero.

Jason Caine started out with no super ID, and got himself a costume and mask later. He still uses his real name as a super ID.

I've been doing more balancing of Anna and Velvet recently. It used to be that Velvet levelled and Anna turned up at the statue. These days it's more common for me to pick depending on whether I can be bothered to rebuild Anna with a new costume. Anna is actually the most secretive hero about her identity that I have.

Thanks for the replies, I was just wondering because of the wording before. But yes even a 'freaky' hero has a normal life as well. Mine is RPed so far as being an avid computer/gameconsole-(ab)user, so it's either work or play with him.

He needs to meet Fusebox and Anna Marsden, undisputed Quake champions of Paragon City. (Possibly more than one Paragon City. )

I'll guess I'll just have to drop by one evening. That will turn out to be a bit easier then I thought because I'm not on Defiant after all (the shame of making that mistake will haunt my dreams).

I had some great RP-time on my trial on the Freedom-server and (although I only played 14 days there before getting the EU-edition) I almost always want to answer Freedom if someone asks which server I play on. So I'll just blame the population of Freedom.

Come on down. If you don't like it (and it isn't for everyone) you can always go find something else.

We don't bite, well, except for Jessica and she's only been known to bite inanimate objects.
