My first night playing I6...
Second mission I tried was on Invincible - defeat all carnies in warehouse. All mobs were level 52/53 (even spread of both). No bosses. Total time to complete - 18 minutes. Total threat level - meh.
Single spawns (2 mobs) were no problem at all. No armours really needed. If I herded 6 minions or so, they became more of a problem and would wear my HP down even with armours if I just stood there. Easy to counteract with the odd Fault, EE etc.. I was also using the official tanking technique for carnies and targeting the strongmen first of course.
Far as I can see, tanks should be able to run missions solo at any level with no real threat of ever dying. Only exception might be bosses or elite bosses that regen faster than a tank can cause damage. I'm not sure how much fun it would be to solo loads of missions with no challenge? Some may also take a very long time.

So what you're saying Hippy is that you have to team. What if you don't want to?

No not at all, i tried soloing on both Heroic and invincible and could get through the level fine - the reason it wasn't fun was that it took ages compared to I4. I kept having to watch my endurance and between mobs turn the togs off to recharge. Downtime is not fun and so not fun after every 4 mobs. Also tried Malta, sappers are even more evil now, grrr. I think on invince in a large team without a mega buffing and healing defender i'd be a little minced.
My defender is unaffected he's still well sorted....
Admittedly i haven't respeced but to be honest i've no idea what to respec to as my choices are severely limited i think all i've managed to work out is that i'll have about 6 or 7 free slots and my only idea is to kit out 'conserve' and rage so i can deal more damage and have less downtime. Not an overly tanky think to do which has annoyed me.
However all these changes have basically made me stop playing, although having played other games none have the same funness of CoH so i may well start again...
I'm using an updated for ED Fire / Fire ED build and can solo exceptionally well in invincible, I recently came down a notch due to being told that unyeilding gives less bosses and so I complete missions faster.
If anything I die on teams, any team mission with more than 4 players puts the spawn size up to a point where my tanks defences won't hold and so I faceplant. A Lot.
Any AT dips into ancilliary power pools, tanks are the only AT that are forced to to stay alive, and this leaves very little room for anything 'fun'.
It takes an exceptionally good team to keep me alive and an amazing one to keep me standing against an AV, I become pretty much the sole focus of a teams defender trying to keep me alive, I've noticed that this is the case as well with my Empath any 'old skool' tank who trys to tank an entitire mob of reasonable level becomes my sole focus, and god forbid we should stry aggro another mob.
I'm not asking Statesman to put me back to the Burn machine of I4 but we do need something extra! I'm always tring to think of extra powers I can take to keep me alive longer, but this simply is not feasble in an already exceptionally tight build just to make me feel like i'm not a dead weight in my team.
The only thing I can think, short of Cryptic reversing some of the reductions in Fire stats is to change Healing Flames in to a Dull Pain/Earth's Embrace/Hoarfrost like power.
Although the additional recharge time would in theory lower the amount of healing. The additional 60% HPs (with the lastest changes) for taking alpha strikes, and the increased regen while it was active, should actually improve a Fire tanks quality of life. Give the Defender a bit of a breather as well.

More time online spent levelling, crafting or PvP'ing = more money for NCSoft.

An odd statement, if only because leveling is faster than it was at launch! Less debt in missions, a lower debt cap, increased mob XP - even with I5 and ED leveling is faster than it was up to I4.
Certainly agree with that, being a slow leveller anyway due to lack of time in front of my PC, certainly noticed the early levels are much easier to blitz and get past than they used to be, ok this can be partly explained by experience but the changes have made a difference.
Seem to remember levelling in EU Beta being extremely difficult until the Winter Lords arrived :-)

Gaining xp may be faster, but increased chance of debt after lvl 10 due to weakened characters offsets this so I'd say the effect is close to +-0.
Besides "less debt" does not apply. If you have permamently one death worth of debt the fact that the debt cap is smaller has no bearing whatsoever. Debt is still debt.
I dont understand the originally quoted statement though, don't care much.

My tanker is now boring to solo. The only armour worth taking in the entire set is granite. Which reduces my damage output and removes any threat. It takes ages to get to an enemy and if they run I have to stand there waiting for them to return. Any mission I don't need GA for I don't need any armour for. To my mind it makes most of the stone armour powers pointless after level 32. Before level 32, well good luck and how's the debt going?
What is wrong with the tanks of CoH?
Most of a tank's life is spent complaining - about i5, about sappers, about psi, about ED, about i6, can you not just play the game? Its fun if you just give it a go, away from the complainfest in this thread.
I am a tank, and i admit i haven't played as my main much in i6, but it really doesnt make difference if you are GOOD at what you do, and if you die, who cares? If you do it is quite a decent source of comedy which you can exploit with the rest of your team, which could clear the angry obsessing tank stereotype we have on CoH. But then again, you could just complain some more.
Also, good point khaine, but the other rock tank powers are very good if you slot them, and i much prefer not being in GA (No offence bedrocks of the world 0.o).

All those whiners that say that tankers are dead.....
WAKE UP PLEASE!
You just have an AT that needs to be played WELL to work, not just the unkillable herding machine of before!
I have an invuln tanker, currently lvl 42 and I'm having big fun with him because every situation has not to be takne lightly because it's a possible faceplant!
Maybe you all need to re-learn to play your toon because everyone that says"I reired my tank because of I5" makes me laugh..
Go and have some good time and stop complaining please!

When people say that it makes me sad. I have relearnt to play my tank after I5 hit ( due to stubbornness ) and he is probably my favourite toon ( still ). However I can see why people who ( like me ) have many alts would give up on the tank first.

Good plan.
@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
Picked up a mish from Crimson, set my dificulty to heroic and headed to DA for a defeat all Malta mission.

All mobs were 50 or 51. No bosses. Total time to complete the mission was 23 minutes. Total threat level of enemies on the mission was zero. I started with stone skin, rock armour, tough, crystals and rooted. Was only really using crystals for the sapper and as I could fosillize him I turned it off. Mobs were still barely touching me so I decided to turn rock armour and tough off as well. Pretty much no difference.
Lastly I thought it a little unfair that I was regening so fast so I turned rooted off as well (i was only really running it for mez protection). Still no real threat. The only tough moment was when I didnt wait for fosillize to recharge before attacking a group and the sapper drained all my end and perma-held me. Had to use a breakfree and a couple of cabs to 'remove' him
I'll try my next mish on invincible tomorrow morning.
