Will any RPers actually play as villains?
I'll stay on the hero side when it comes to RPing. I _might_ RP a vilain now and then, but...
I think I'll still be playing CoH more than CoV
And I'll stick to GG every evening I can

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
Forgive my noobness, but I have a somewhat related question. I've heard that the RPers tend to hang out under the Galaxy Girl statue most evenings. I've only been playing a few days, but is that the statue of the spacey-looking chick pointing up to the sky (the one with the skirt)?
Oh, and is it Union or Defiant?
I haven't really encountered any RPers yet, but I'm just curious in case I want to come hang out.
Yes, that's the place, on the Union server. You'll find people there from 8pm usually, though the main lot gets going around 9.
Weekends are often quieter though for some odd RL reason!

Cheers for the info. I haven't really seen anyone hanging out 'under the skirt' since I've been on the server, but maybe I just haven't hung around long enough to listen in. You know how it is, always some muggers that need spanking and such
Well, the last couple of days have been problematic as a lot of us are having connection problems due to the recent updates... It'll improve...

Well, I'll be creating a villain, when I have the chance, and she's a plot villain for one of my heroes, so she might get RP'd sometime, if we can work out a safe way of doing it.
As for RPing villains in general: I can see that becoming a rather boring affair where various toons sit around trying to demonstrate how hard/wierd/sick/psychotic they are, which doesn't terribly appeal to me.

Who among the usual suspects (and newcomers of course) will be roleplaying villains in addition to their heroes or even play exclusively on the villain side?

I'm an exclusive Villain roleplayer. Check my characters journal link in my sig
I'll be doing both. =)
(actively looking for both quality hero/villain RP-SG's by the way =P)
If I can be so bold as to offer a tip to those considering RPing villains, try not to think about being evil. Many of the greatest villains believe as strongly as heroes in that what they do is right, or for the betterment of the world.
Go about your business as usual, and try not to be a raving psychopath (hard to roleplay without any previous RL experience ). Those that try to stop you are to narrow-minded to see that what you are trying to create will help mankind.
I dunno if that helps, but roleplaying a villain can often be more fun and more believable when played in such a straightforward manner. Naturally, you sometimes have to turn a RL blind eye when you have to do something unsavoury. It's a cliche, but checking out the alignments section in say, the D&D PHB might help give some inspiration.
Oh, and apologies for derailing this topic a bit. Yes, I think I'll have a pop at villainy.
I was going to RP with my hero when I started CoH, but since my mate is on Defiant, i play on Defiant. It'll probs be the same with CoV, i'd like to RP with my villian, but I will probs choose Defiant agen :P
I'll be RPing a specific villain at least, as a friend and I are going to have a pop and making an arch-nemesis for each others chars...
But GG will remain my main focus of RP in the evenings...

Also there isnt a good place to Roleplay on mercy island,GG will always be the best place
I've never really got the "gathering point" for roleplay mentality That said, CoV has the perfect place - a custom designed base! Get invited to Team, enter base, drop from team. Rinse and repeat until everyone who wants to attend has done
A decorative base with no functionality at all is super-cheap to do, which is all you need as a meeting point.
i like the thought of being a hero to much that i think i would hate the idea of being a villain but saying that i think it might be fun
I would actuley quite like to RP a villian I usally enjoy RP the bad side. But I do RP heroes to.

I think part of the idea is to garner the numbers with the occasional person stumbling across the event, especially those who don't frequent the forums. Having everyone head in to a base removes this possibility (admittedly, also the possobility of tools blundering into the event), at least, unless a dev took note of that suggestion of being able to flag a base as "public" for entry...
Well, as of tonight my first two villains (both RP'ed) have been created on Union. ^^ Send a tell to either "Nelson Movian" or "Abberation" if you feel like playing around (and if I'm online of course ;P).

Tried entering a base? Public bases aren't going to happen. Large Coalitions are probably bad enough. If lots of people started listing bases as public, it would rapidly become impossible to select a base to enter.

Nope. CoV holds no RP interest for me. I run villain "NPCs" for plots, but since they usually don't go above level 1, making an actual villain from CoV to use isn't practical.

Fundamentally, mate, that's an insult disguised as a joke. To reply in the same way...
Currently what we do is sit around looking at all the other heroes wondering how come they're so sick/perverted/psychotic and no one does anything about it.

Just purchased CoV - so The Banished will be going villain tonight
Some roleplayer shows at GG, but it's not all of them (I think that was you meant with usual suspect). They're some people that just go in character and don't have plots, some have but not at GG. There is different flavour, and I think it's great that way.
Concerning CoV and villain, I will at least play my villains in character.
I have some idea on each one's background and some may be a bit psychotic, and others just want to be rich/have some power, and be left alone in some way. Not everyone of them will be completly crazy. But what would they do to achieve this goal is just more than your average buddy would. Add their power to that.

Are any RP based villain groups currently planned?
