It felt like it got better for my Crab. Once you start getting more of the Secondary powers, you'll feel more solid. If you focus more into the attacks, you can make yourself a Blapper, with solid ranged (the AoEs are nice) and very decent Melee and access to solid defenses and a Self Heal.
The Crab just felt like a lawn mower to me. I do hope you enjoy it!
I was just waiting for someone to say "lawnmower". You know what, it's true. My crab ever since 24 has solo'd on relentless most missions shy of the ones where AVs are involved. I'm built for perma hasten, perma pets, and my total recharge with hasten and set bonuses is at 201.25%.
Now, for your power scaling up even further. I've noticed that with actual sets put in place of SOs, that I've became more of a "lawnmower". I have nice DPS, I seem to attack faster, and because of that, I enjoy my crab even more. My crab really doesn't have issues with endurance and/or health, as I've never been below 1/2 health.

I laugh at this, and it's kind of mean, but without the sentiment and just the facts, it's kind of true too.
The Wolf Spiders (pre-24) are quite amazing, and function very similarly (if not identically) to Crab Spiders. The only real difference is... the arms and the Damage type.
Wolf Spiders are much easier to get to 24 than Widows. Getting mine up there was like pulling out my fingernails and dipping the tips in acid.
But yea, Wolfs and Crabs are pretty much the same, except Crabs seem to be more survivable.

Fortification.
A crab spider with enough positional defense bonuses along with tough and weave can have almost as much total survivability as an invulnerability Brute and as possibly a tank, if played right. Not to mention the overall damage is pretty good, even if it is AoE-Based. Not a great PvP build choice though.
Did I mention group buff toggles?

That's real funny because I found getting my widow to 24 (other than End) a piece of cake but my little wolfie is much more of an ordeal. The result of differing playstyles, the widow matches mine and the Wolf doesn't.
