DM Attack Chain
Best Dark Melee attack chain is
MG/Smite/SL/Smite
MG need to recharge in 4.488
SL need to recharge in 4.62
Smite need to recharge in 2.112
Smite: 6/2.112-1=184%
SL:10/4.62-1=116%
MG: 15/4.488-1=234%
Glancing over that the most obvious change I'd make would be to swap Maneuvers out for Combat Jumping. You'll still be softcapped but you wont use near as much end/sec for your toggles.
Edit: Swap the ToD in Smite and the Mako's in SL to hit the recharge requirements. Also you desperately need the Miracle unique in there. DM's top shelf attack chain will be using around 4 end/sec with your adjusted slotting.
Edit #2: Here is a build that works. Cost does go up a good bit due to the 3% pvp defense IO but getting that allows you a bit more freedom to slot your attacks better, in particular SL. Resists are a good bit higher. Hitpoints, regeneration, endurance, and end recovery are also a bit higher. SL is slotted for max heal and max damage so you'll survive a lot longer.
Empty slot in True Grit is for the pvp defense IO.

True, manouvers is hardly needed and if you're slotting purples it's not like cash is a problem.
Here's my build, I was wondering if it could be improved, I'm 0.20 of a second shy of optimal recharge for MG. I tried switching to a recharge IO but it goes to 4.56, so still shy off and with a loss in acc and endurance.
Btw, can HOs be merged like SOs? How do those +3 HOs come to be anyway?

Yes, HOs can be merged, I think.
The +3 HOs came from an exploit in the early days of the Hami raid involving exemping just before he dropped. You can't get them anymore, so the ones floating around are a finite amount.

Okay here is my updated build in True Grit there is the Panacea set and I am possibly toying with dropping in the Gladiator's: +Defense enhancement.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
It's worth thinking about Frankenslotting Siphon Life.
Theres a thread on it somewhere here, but basically, but the option I ended up using was
Mako's bite - Acc/Dam
Mako's bit - Dam/Rech
Mako's bit - acc/Dam/End/Rech
Theft of Essence - Acc/End/Heal
Theft of Essence - Chance for +End
Generic Damage IO
( totals acc 62.45% Dam 97.09% End 35.95% Heal 17.4% Rech 45.05% )
I'm not saying it's the perfect blend, it just worked for me, But you will want to tweak the bonuses on it.
The end result is that over time, Siphon Life actually GAINS me Endurance, (It was beautiful to think of Conserve Power as optional for once)
It's also worth mentioning on a DM/SD, you may want to beef the heal portion up a bit more as well.
Theres something real annoying about getting an AV down to 10% health, only for them to hit you 3 times in a row, and "Pow" - Dirt Nap, and a stronger heal could be the difference needed to stop the Dirt-nap happening.

Couple things about this
He need the Mako to be over the soft cap
He neve said he was going to solo AV with this build
Only 17.4% heal is not a lot and if he does want to solo AV you want that heal to be higher. That is why I don't like the proc in there at all you take away a slot from SL. It might be great for normal play but for AVs as a /SD you will want that heal to be better then 17.4%, and you want the attack to do damage.
So, my search fu is improving - Siphon Life Slotting
Couldn't find it at first but woo-hoo!
And yeah, I wouldn't reccommend the slotting I use, because you will want a bigger heal. However the proc is handy, it's nice to have a attack that actually helps you gain Endurance by using it (very handy for protracted fights)
Anyway, check out the thread, there are a few good options in there that achieve both high Damage AND Heal enhancements (along with Rech, Acc and End Red).
As for missing out on that Ranged bonus, well . . . . .
with i16 on its way, I would just hold on to that fire/shielder... DM is just crap...
Frankenslotting Siphon Life to maximize the heal along with damage can net you an extra ~20HP/sec which is roughly 200% regen. It's not a bad move if you can still reach the soft-cap without SL.

For groups, undoubtly. I was trying the same mission my FM/SD was blazing through and the difference is noticable. It wasn't bad before they 'fixed' cones but with that patch getting five mobs in the cone is a lot harder, the dancing around the spawn helps but it's no longer even close to the same thing. Then again I'm fight ranged mobs, maybe meleers would follow more closely making them easier to get into range.
So yeah, hard hitter, self-heal freeing a pool, nice toys, ease to softcap that leaves the attacks open to be slotted as wishing, instead of locking them with Makos of ToD, a hard hitting cone that can get three mobs easy and recharges in 3 seconds.
Just, in a big team, or against a big spawn it is slow-ish.

Wait, what did I nail? What did I prove?
Anyway, yeah, those are my chains. The first is the DPS chain, though my Siphon Life is slotted for healing over damage. The second is for when I'm badly hurt, since it spams Siphon Life almost as fast as it recharges.
