Villain Populations Per Server?

Didn't want to post this on all the separate server forums (that's cross-posting anyway, right?), so hopefully this is the right place.

I'm looking for a server where I can expand into the red side. I know that Freedom and Virtue have the largest populations, period, and by default, should have the largest villain populations. I'm curious to know if there is some way to tell how many villains there are, on average, on any given server? Not necessarily at any given time, or even how many are actually registered villains on that server. Just...which server has the best redside population? And when I say best, I'm mostly meaning most active.

Thanks for your attention.

Only the Devs could tell you which server has the most active villains. They usually don't respond in the player question forums. And they probably wouldn't be willing to tell you even if you pm'ed one of them.

My suggestion: go visit the separate server forums and ask around. Some have lists of supergroups --see if one of these appeals to you. Alternately, you could go to the supergroup registar in Port Oakes or the one in Atlas Park and look at the top 100 sgs for a specific server. They list both hero and villain sgs, so some reading between the lines may be necessary. Also, just because a group is at the top of the list, doesnt mean it will suit your wants and needs.

Well, the only way I can think of to get numbers on it would take quite a bit of time. But if you really want to know:

Make an villain alt on each server. Once a day, at whatever time you normally play, log on to each server with your villain, and use /search to see how many people are on. Then average it over however many days you want.

Which proves nothing because:

1. Many players use the /hide tool to avoid searches.

2. /search only tells you who is not hidden in a particular zone, and zone popluations are constantly changing as people travel between missions.

3. I believe there's a cap of 200 that shows up on a search list. (I could be wrong on this last part)

4. Time of day also affects how many people are playing. What may be a busy time in the US may be dead time in Australia.

2. You can select it to show from all zones.

3. Don't even think it's 200, however, whenever your search returns more results than it will show, the bottom of the search window will go "This list has be truncated (#### total results)" thus still giving you the total number of people online for that server and side not hidden from search.

I just did a search redside on Virtue, made sure "all" was checked on everything, and got back 575 results (truncated).

Thanks for the corrections Rajani.

That being said, /search still only gives a person a skewed perception of how many players are online. Many players make use of the /hide feature to avoid searches by other people. Particularly RMT spammers that use the search feature to collect names to send emails to.

This results in giving the appearance that a server is empty so to speak when it really isn't especially on lower pop servers.

Yeah, search is definitely not a way to get hard numbers on server pop.

The suggestion was to perform these searches at the OP's "normal play times" which would mitigate the time of day issue. Furthermore, most of folks hiding from searches (like RMTers) are not folks that the OP will be able to team with easily so I think search gives a close approximation.

While you are technically correct that search does not give an accurate number of server pop, I think the suggestion will get the OP 90% of what they are looking for. And it's really the only tool players have to judge pop (other than the red/yellow/green) as far as I know. However, I will also reiterate that finding a good SG, even on a low pop server, will probably help even more.

I never said it was a great way to get population numbers. But it is the only way, as far as I know

I've been thinking about it and the OP might get some useful info on finding a good group if he asks a few questions down in the individual server forums below.

I bet theres several people down there that would be happy to introduce the OP to their circle of friends on the various servers.
