So, I'm back with a new question. Giant Shogun has reached level 5 and it now lugging around 4 pieces of salvage. I don't remember them saying anything about this stuff in the tutorial, so besides selling it, what can I do with it?
Edit: If I buy the game, and install it, does the free month stack with my trial time? Is so, will the first fourteen days still be restricted with trial limits?
Edit: When is Issue 16 coming out? I didn't see any information on the date.
Salvage is used for crafting Inventions, which can be costume pieces, or more commonly, Invention origin enhancements.
They are enhancements that you cannot outlevel like normal ones, and some of them come in sets, which give you bonuses depending on how many of a particular set you have in a power. There's an invention tutorial that will unlock when you hit level 10, I strongly suggest you run through it at least once.
If you buy the full game you do NOT have to reinstall it, you just need to upgrade your trial account to a full account, which I believe you do from your master NCSoft account (I never had a trial account, so I'm a little fuzzy on this one)
Yes, the free month will stack with your trial time, and no, it will not have the trial limitations, you will be able to do anything in the game anyone else can do.

Just as an FYI to the original poster: Since you asked about the game being "casual player friendly", I just want to point out that the Invention Origin Enhancement system is completely skippable. You can take your characters through the game using Training Origin enhancements (available from 1-53, but considered weak), Dual Origin enhancements (a bit stronger & available starting at L15 from contacts and stores that show on the game map), and Single Origin enhancements (the strongest of the store-bought enhancements, & available from contacts and stores starting at L25). IO's were an addition to the game to allow people to customize characters to be closer to their vision via special bonuses that come with using the IO sets. They're fun and powerful, but it can take a while to learn the system, & get the salvage and recipes to make the IO's you want.
Thanks for the quick response guys. ^_^ You always know what up.

This is very true. I wasn't trying to imply that it was mandatory or necessary. Just that, in order to determine whether yuo want to use a feature, you should at least make yourself familiar with that feature instead of making an uninformed decision.
OP: Since you're here asking questions you're already on the "right" path. A lot of new players go straight into the AE building and never leave. There's nothing wrong with AE, I play in it on a regular basis.
The catch there is that AE itself doesn't expose you to a lot of the things in the game that you would see or learn just by playing. If you browse the forums you'll find thread after thread after thread full of people complaining about AE creating players with high level characters that have little or no idea how to do anything outside of the AE building.
Once again, I'm not saying AE is bad, just that jumping into it right away isn't the best way to learn the game if that is what you want to do. many new players coming over from other games (coughWoWcough) think that they have to get to level 50 as fast as possible to get to the fun part of the game. What they don't realize is that CoH doesn't work like that. The whole game is the fun part.
So, what I'm basically saying is, don't get sucked into AE to the point that it's all you do. If you do that you will miss a LOT of cool stuff, because you skipped past the levels the game introduces you to it in.

To help you plan your character you should take a look at the Guide to Guides, and also download Mids Hero Designer. Mids is currently in the hands of Steiner and he's working on an update to it now.
With Mids you can play around with the IO sets and see how the bonuses work, they can be real sexy.

I'm going to give you some bad advice, then explain why I gave it to you, then explain why it's bad.
THE BAD ADVICE:
Take every piece of salvage to Wentworth's and list it for 1 inf. Take every "set recipe" (it'll have a name, like Air Burst or Numina's Convalescence) to Wentworth's and list it for 1 inf. If it doesn't sell in a week, take it down and sell it to a store. Take every generic recipe to a store and sell it.
WHY I GAVE YOU THIS ADVICE: Your first time through, you probably have lots to get your brain around. "Store bought" enhancements (the TO's, DO's, and SO's people mentioned) work fine. If you do this, you will give people a lot of bargains, but you will still have plenty of inf for "store boughts" and you will probably get at least half of what the stuff is worth.
WHY IT IS BAD ADVICE: If you feel like you want to get into the Invention System, the amount of inf you have becomes meaningful. What I mean is, the most you can spend on storebought SO's at one time, at level 50, is about 5 million inf. Any number over that is meaningless UNTIL you want to buy invention stuff.
If you list for 1, you will get the highest current bid. Usually, for something valuable, that's going to be within a factor of 2 of "what it's really worth". Often, people put in a lot of lowball bids hoping for a huge bargain. So the last 5 may have sold for 20 million inf, and you might put it up for 1 inf and sell it for 1.5 million inf.
1.5 million inf will buy you all your storeboughts through level 22. So you're getting ripped off, but you still have all the money you need for the basics. You can do a little research and make a whole lot of money, in this game. But, as they little loading screen tells us, the game was not made harder when inventions were added. It's still balanced around storeboughts.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.

That's because we don't have one. Issue 16 is still "in development", which means anything could crop up that needs more time to work out. After the Devs get it roughly pushed into shape, the Issue goes into Beta where players get to debug, comment on, and generally assist with the development of the issue. (Yeah, our Devs *listen* to the players; don't tell anyone. I think the other Development houses might ostracize Paragon Studios if they knew .) The Beta period can also be a flexible time period, but generally lasts anywhere from three weeks to a month and a half.
Then everyone gets the free issue.

For a Hero, I'd like to heal and buff team mates, but I worry about solo capability.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like you already got started on some great characters, but let me share some of my experiences with the "buff, but solo" idea.
First, upon reaching level 10, you have the ability to have TWO builds. You can access them both at any trainer, and once you switch to one build you can't switch to the other for 15 minutes. But both builds stay at the same level. If you level one build, then switch to the other build, you can level that one as well. What this allows you to do is to create one build for soloing and one build for teaming. So, that's something to keep in mind.
In terms of buffing AT's (Hero-side... I don't do Villains much), Defenders and Controllers are the AT's of choice.
A great powerset for soloing is Kinetics. It's also very welcome on teams. The reason it's good for solo is because it allows you to greatly increase your damage-dealing capability. Damage is not a strength of Defenders or Controllers, and generally makes them slow to solo. Sonic is also more offensive in nature, since it lowers foes' damage resistance. Empathy is not good at all for a soloer. Force Fields is heavy on powers that are ally-only, but plenty of people make it work. The other sets are more defensive in nature than Kinetics and Sonic, or a mix... so they offer more safety at the cost of some experience-earning potential. (But if your Kinetic is faceplanting all the time, that's obviously a killer on leveling, so defensive is good in that case).
Secondaries for defenders have their pros and cons. In terms of soloing, I think Rad stands out for its offensive capability (its attack lowers opponent defense), as do Sonic (lowers damage resistance) and Archery (high accuracy). The other sets are a more defensive in nature, which again is not a bad thing, depending on play style.
Controllers are also fun. Earth is slow to solo because of its low damage output, but all the primary powersets (except mental control) get pets, which really help you solo at level 32+. (a pet is effectively your own personal tank or blaster). Controllers also do double damage to any held, disoriented, sleeping, or immobilized opponent, so they can actually do a fair bit of damage. I'd give Illusion the nod for soloing potential due to its high damage Spectral Wounds. Blind a foe, then lay spectral wounds on him... you're talking blaster-level damage (well... maybe not... but it's a lot).
I'd say Fire/Kinetics controllers and Kinetics/Radiation Defenders are considered by a lot of people to be excellent choices for a solo supporter, though of course a good player can make anything work (though I'd be really interested to hear about anyone who has had a fulfilling experience soloing an Empath).
Thanks for the advice. Who knows? Maybe I'll be the wierdo with the good solo empathy game.

Empathy FTW!
troller is short for Controller.

A term that should be banned from use, much like "stume"
Thanks again. I've now tried out every Archetype. I like them all, but my favorite, and I can't believe I'm saying this, is the Dominator. ^_^ I have a character of every Archetype and will be buying the full version of this game next paycheck, so look out for my characters.

Yeah, that's what everyone says. Even those 63 month vets with no level 50s.
And you did snag several great names in there. It's things like this that make me ignore every "all the good names are taken" post.

Thanks for the advice, I'll change around my settings. It was the second one that was giving me problems except on my screen it took up the whole screen.
In any case, here are my characters in case you guys see me around, this seems like a game I could stick with -
