Costume Contest Silliness!

So last night I was in AP to pay up my SG rent and noticed a costume contest being held under the statute of Atlas. Since the advent of MA, I have made it a point to avoid AP because of the overabundance of spam text scrolling through in the broadcast channel as well as the blind invites that might get through my AE AoE defense shield.

Anywho, anybody who has been here before AE probably knwos how the costume contests work. I sometimes like to take a look at those who have lined up to see if I see anything interesting and then saw that the reward for this particular contest was a whopping 1 Million influence!

Now, being an ebil marketeer, I thought about subverting this CC to start my own at a much more substantial reward, but that would have reduced the amount of time for my normal preferred activity of whooping on Rikti in the RWZ. instead I just found the person who had the best costume, IMO, and gave them 15 Million in inf.

I just thought it was silly that so many people were standing around for 1 Million inf. What does this have to do with the market? Well, it was playing the market that made 15 Million an insignificant amount of inf to just give away. I also gave a level 50 Numina: Heal IO away to an unsuspecting lowbie the other day who was vending their enhancements near the Atlas Statue.

Who says that we on the marketeering forums are all heartless S.O.Bs who jack up the prices of everything with our greedy flipping and craft-and-sell practices? Let it be known that there is at least a little bit of generosity here!

Been doing this for a while to be honest.

I tend to check the lineup, look for good costumes with no (or one) vet rewards and usually chuck a million at however many I find. I prefer to spread the wealth rather than give one person a lottery win. I usually give away 8-10million per CC.

Not heard the "1 mil inf to whoever can find me" for a long time /wistful. Wish people still did that as I always found that amusing.

'Tis true though. Amassing wealth to pay for IOs tends to leave me with an abundance of inf when the character is done. I like to reset that back to 0 by giving it away. Costume contests are good way to do that and it's my way of getting back at those people who chose winners based purely on chest size, or their willingness to join the hosts SG.

I remember (back when electric blasters had only two tasers strapped to their wrists for powers) when 40k inf was a lot of money to a hero at security level six.

Grats on winning! Now buy that blimp so they'll let me aboard!

Great work. I sometimes do this as well, although I admit my motivation is selfish. Throwing about vast sums of influence makes me feel powerful, and everyone benefits if it means that people are less uptight with their wallets on the market.

I'm semi-seriously considering a project to give away 200 Miracle uniques this Christmas. At ~70m each, the total cost would be about 15bn - only 3bn/month with 5 months left to go till Dec 25. I wonder if I can make it...

Wow, that sounds like quite the task. I know I racked up an easy billion in the last month, but getting up to 3 billion/month might be a little more difficult. But with 2XP weekend coming up, that's a good opportunity to make some nice profits. Then, I imagine that there will be another issue release before December so playing your cards right at that juncture would also be useful along with just every day marketeering and play
time.

Hmmm...maybe I'll have to go back into super marketeering mode and see what I can do. I've only been passive on some of my niches lately since I hit the inf cap and have been hoarding for 2XP.

I can't say that I remembered that fact until now. Even a 3-year vet can still learn things.

I have no problem with marketeering.

Costume contests on the other hand...

I used to be glad I played on red side. It was something we could make fun of the heroes for: they're too busy holding costume contests to stop our evil ways. But then people started doing it red side too. Suddenly our (im)moral high ground of not being That Lame vanished in a big puff.

Although at least they're still infrequent and mercifully small by comparison.

But dammit all, how am I supposed to keep making fun of how silly heroes are, prancing around in their little fashion shows, if villains start doing the same thing!

Grrrr.

I ask you, what is the point of giving out free inf if you aren't going to make them humiliate themselves to get it? :-)

Back in the day I paid a bunch of lowbies 100K each to spell out the first letter of my character's name (Graal)...

There was no reason to wait for AE to avoid AP for its abundance of spam.

Tis true! Which is exactly why I said, "Overabundance." At least it was tolerable before AE. I used to make it a point to avoid PI as much as possible, now it's AP. Same problem, new location. That's all.
