Kat / Fiery - Pour on the offense

With my Kat / Fiery Aura (currently level 34), I have been trying to focus on pumping up my offense, without bothering getting too much extra mitigation beyond what Fiery Aura offers. I'll generally be teaming and I like RotP, so survivability is not a big concern. In that vein, I am trying to put together a build that will provide superb offense in a variety of venues - large spawns, big teams; medium team spawns; and AVs (while teamed).

While I am going to be taking all the powers from my secondary while leveling, I am not married to Burn or Temperature Protection and if I can get more +damage into the build from taking something else, I might respec out of them some time after I hit 50. I find I miss having Combat Jumping, but I am going to stick without for now, but also might eventually respec that in. Caltrops seems like some nice damage for AVs, in addition to its protective uses in other venues.

Burn is your only immob protection if you don't take CJ.

Consider the dark epic tentacles for AoE immob and burn.

I played a kat/fire to 50 over a double XP weekend (8 of us ran a team 1-50, no farming, basically TFing most of the way) and judging performance is difficult, as with an emp, cold and kin I was at the damage and defence caps most of the time.

Thank you for the reply.

Aye. While I mostly miss Combat Jumping due to the lower control and mobility, that is also a minor concern. I do expect to use Burn often enough that it won't be a major issue, but I will keep my eye on it for sure.

I am indeed. Neither Torrent nor Petrifying Gaze appeal to me and I also did not like that it sucked up 3 power picks. Caltrops will do a similar job and only takes the one power pick, in addition to it being nice damage vs hard targets. I still might try it out, I can use the Dark Powers as set mules for more +Dam and/or +recharge or I could transfer some more slots into RotP for some Efficiency Adaptor slotting.

Uhm, no? BS and Kat are so similar I think the only reason to choose one over the other would be animation preference. Kat does have better DPS, BS has bigger orange numbers and some would say more CRUNCH (but Golden Dragonfly is more KAAAAA-CRUNCH, IMO).

Also the longer animation times of BS may result in being defeated while animating an attack more often than with Kat.

Strat: Since you haven't slotted a ton of +regen, I would consider using Perfomance Shifter in Consume instead of EA. More recovery & HP-- same damage buff. And Mako over ToD, unless you are thinking that if you exemplar you'll still want some bonuses as at lvl 40 %'s of ToD > Mako. And Ragnarok: KD instead of Pacing of the Turtle in Caltrops maybe eventually??

Posted

I think the Performance Shifters in Consume are a good idea, the extra hitpoints and some more movement speed (including Jump Height!) will help. I need the Touch of Death's instead of the Mako's for the extra +Damage, as I am already full up on +3% damages. Adjusted build below.

I hit level 37, and I am starting to feel the crunch of the baddies. I need to do some fancy footwork and use more inspires than I like to carry on in some fights. I am glad that RotP will be here soon.

Yeah my kat/fire just hit 50 the other day and I had about the same idea, although i picked up boxing/tough instead of assault and tactics.

Tough has really helped my survivablity a lot. I am thinking of dropping caltrops/burn and picking up assault and something else, or just droppin caltrops and gettin assault and keeping burn. While i really do like caltrops/burn, it just doesn't do the same as having a troller on the team or fightin AVs. They start runnin when caltrops hit and continure to run after burn as went away as caltrops are still around.

Im only half way into slotting, have 5 obliteration sets which wiped out a lot of my cash, and the 3 heal procs, perf shifter proc, two lotg, only one achilles, prob gonna to to two as at least one should hit through a couple attack chains against AVs.
