CoH is crashing my computer
Might wanna start with the common solutions thread and also posting your cohhelper and hijack this log (see my sig).
So you thought it might be heat, but didn't actually check the heatsinks, fans and such because non-Co* operations is good?
Yep. Sounds like Co* is doing what it does best: Kill computers that aren't cooling right. You might want to actually do the heatsink/fan check and clean/fix if needed... but of course, that also means that I read all that right.
And what Tease said, of course, should that have been done.

nah, i've cleaned out my comp a few times thinking it could be heat, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
As i said, sometimes i'd let it cool down completely, then turn it on, go straight to CoH, and it'd crash right away.
I just tried using the windows hotfixes, they said they would have no effect on my system. I tried rolling back my drivers, still no luck.
Here is what i get with CoH Helper:

I have also started crashing recently with the last few patches. Prior to that, never had a problem. I updated the drivers for my 8800 GTX graphics card, but no change.
Something got broke in those last few patches. I am not experiencing this problem with any other application.
Hope it gets fixed soon.
well, i had this problem a little while back too, sometime after MA came out. the problem eventually went away, then it started showing up again, (happened while playing on test server testing khan TF), then i hadn't seen it again until yesterday when it happened 7 times

Bo, please go to your control panel, administrative tools, Event Viewer, Windows Logs sub-section, System subsection. Scroll back to immediately before your most recent crash and tell me what you have of interest that may be flagged Warning/Error/Critical. Also be sure that in the System Properties window (right click on my computer, select Properties), Advanced tab, Startup & Recovery button, that you have "Write an event to the system log" checked, under system failure. (Your exact verbage may be a little different but similar.)
This doesn't sound like the error 13/14 bug in general, and your also right the hotfix doesn't apply to you because your running SP2 which includes it. Since its not that error, using the 169 drivers probably arent benefiting you, and I'd upgrade to the 185s. (The 186's have some hiccups on occasion).
Also, install a copy of (free) speedfan, and keep an eye on both your CPU and GPU temps, and post them back here for us both after the system has been idle and non-gaming for some time and after you've had the system under load (gaming) a while.
I notice that several of your system drives have very little free-space, and that can make windows have hiccups. Something you may want to resolve. Also, make sure your board/chipset drivers are up-to-date. Hmm, you have a heck of a lot of stuff running at start-up that could be chewing up system resources in odd ways, I'd suggest reducing that list substantially at least temporarily and preferably permanently but thats just good system mechanics.
In looking at the log, I see you have dual... something video. Whether that's GPUs or monitors or both...
Dual Monitors/Dual GPUs might be an issue to try to take out of the equation, if only for testing, if possible.
And your drivers aren't very new. 169.25s.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
According to this, if you check Geforce, 8 series, 8800GTS, Vista 32, they're up to 186 as WHQLs, although the 185s are supposed to be the right ones to run. Your drivers don't show up, and would be pre September 2008. Time to upgrade, methinks, that might do the trick.

Ack, I totally missed the dual video setting houtex. Definitely take that out of the question. The video card setting needs to be in single-monitor performance (I think thats it) mode for game handling. The game also has issues with SLI compatability and although many get it to work its not supported I dont believe.
I think he rolled drivers back to the 169's hoping it was the error 13/14 bug, since thats the driver it calls for testing.
when i turn on my comp, i usually go to my processes and turn off whatever i know i can (such as the HP crap), but there's still tons of sytems things left. I just went and disabled a bunch of the startup stuff i could.
Checking my event log doesn't seem to reveal any info. It simply says "The previous system shutdown at 3:17:04 PM on 7/16/2009 was unexpected." However there are no logs around that time that say anything relevant (just stuff about my computer booting)
As for my temps, at the moment with only firefox running

I can try and find out what they are for CoH, but it will likely crash my comp, so i'll just post this for now.
The driver that i had listed was the rollback that i did by following the link in your sig. I had a more recent one before

things just keep going from bad to worse.
So, pretty much right after submitting that post, my comp crashed, and this time it had nothing to do with CoH.
Truth be told, it is about 45 degrees out, so my comp was probably running hotter than normal, but i figured it must be heat, and that CoH is just making it abnormally hot sometimes.
So, i opened my computer, and noticed that the heat sink was starting to become detached from the processor, so i took it off, cleaned them both, and re-applied the thermal grease.
I made sure everything was nice and secure, and turned on my comp. Nothing happened. Power goes through it, the fans spin, but it doesn't beep, and my mouse, keyboard and screen stay blank and unpowered.
Now i have no idea what to do. (i'm posting this from my mac atm) I have no idea why it's not starting. I even double checked it to make sure everything is connected properly

What did it do when it crashed? Did it power off? Did it give a windows stop code? Did it just go black with a flashing white cursor? Was there an error message? Did it reboot itself?

Well, if the proc was that hot it can take a while to cool down before it will work again. Leave it unplugged for a few hours, check all the connections, and give it another go.
We had a server get baked once at a place I worked, and we literally threw the processor in the freezer for 10 minutes to get it to a good temp.
Barring that, my best guess is your last crash finally cooked your mo-bo. The processor overheating will only rarely kill the proc, and if it does, it will still give you a beep code most of the time. But the proc overheating can cook the circuitry around the proc on the mo-bo. Your system core temp rises when that big hot bit of silicon and metal sits there and burns.
The most likely situation is you need a new mo-bo, but I'd get a new system board and proc combo if I were you. Your fans spin so we know your PSU is probably good.
How about your video card? What happens if you yank it and try to boot? Any beeps?
Hate to say it, but the prognosis here may not be that good. But lets not give up hope yet. Try removing all peripherals from the system, reseat memory, check connections, and see if you can get it to at least beep at you. A beeping computer still has hope!
yeah, it just shut off without warning or anything.
The Mobo has a little lcd display (like digital clocks) which normally displays "FF" when things were running normally.
When i turn it on now, it just says "--"
I'll give it a few hours to ool, and then try again

also, the mobo i have has it's own heatsink and fan, but unlike all the other comp fans, this one isn't turning. Another sign pointing towards the mobo being fried?

Possibly, it's also possible that this fan could have been the other source of the troubles all along. It's most likely a Northbridge chipset fan, although I've seen some boards with an odd heat sink and fan arrangement.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Running Co* after about 10 minutes, here's the speed fan info:
GPU 66C (Riva Tuner)
CPU 52C (all rest SpeedFan)
CPU 50C
Core 0 57C
Core 1 56C
Now, granted, mine is a 1333 FSB and yours is a 1066FSB, which means an 8 vs 9 multiplier, but man... that still seems whacked out on the CPU temps. A 96C CPU temp is 205F, and that is *hot*. By comparison, my 52C is 125F.
Now, the core temps at -30? That's messed up... but if the others are right, then perhaps it's a rollover issue, and it's really 129c and 132C, respectively, in which case, how did it not catch fire? o.0
Anyone else think this is weird looking? Or is it just me?
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
i dunno, that's just what i had lol.
it looks like it's the mobo. it's just a shame that that last crash finished it off, since after adjusting it and fixing the sink it probably would have been.
As for the mobo fan/sink it had been working fine when i checked it the other day for dust

96 C is way too hot for a Core 2 at stock settings. I'd guess the CPU cooked the motherboard (and perhaps the motherboard made that happen). My first guess is that your CPU was getting massively overvolted somehow, and... yeah, that would be the motherboard's fault.
That's definitely heat, I would say. I noticed your GPU was running at 75, as well, and I'm told anything above 70 is dangerous. Mine runs at 51-52 idle (or when browsing or doing anything other than gaming) and climbs up to around 62 when I run something graphics-intensive. Yours is running hotter idle than mine does under load, and that sounds like a problem.
96 for a CPU, as well, seems pretty much massively over the top. If that hasn't fried your processor, it probably will in short order.
Generally speaking, any time your computer restarts itself directly back to bios, hangs such that keyboard input doesn't work or gives you a blue screen talking about devices or their drivers, it's something hardware-related, either a fried board or an overheating problem. Or it could actually be insufficient power, like I had a PC restart because my power supply wasn't powerful enough, but that doesn't sound like it's relevant to your problem.
Get a programme to monitor the heat of your CPUs and your GPU and run it from time to time when you expect to do some gaming, just to keep an eye on things.

Assuming its able to boot onto the hard drive normally, the board lcd code of FF, on 99% of all boards still stands for "that fugger failed". Something has been amiss for a while if you've been getting FF as a board-code. Google for your bio type and post-code chart to verify this. (Some boards will still toss an FF if the HD is not attached and/or bootable as the bios expects to hand off to a drive.) Half a bazillion sub-steps in the POST procedure could be triggering an FF display, not all of which are hugely important.
The game has worked fine on my computer for years, but recently the game will randomly cause my computer to just shut down, sometimes within minutes of logging in, sometimes hours.
at first i thought it might be a heat problem, but the computer operates fine for days at a time, and then shuts down when i go into CoH. sometimes i have it shut off for hours to cool, and then it still shuts off as soon as i go into the game. Other even more video intensive game do not cause this problem at all.
I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit, NVidia 8800 gts video card, 4 gigs of ram, and a 2.4 GHz dual core processor.
