Duo'ing with a Stone Tanker
Fire or Plant are your damge builds, mostly irrespective of secondary. If you can't stand the idea of playing a plant or a fire with the ones you already have built, hard to say.
I guess a lot of people think Mind is #3, but I think they're wrong except for soloing-- and you'll be getting more spawns that that just with two people. Anyway, probably Illusion is the answer. Illusion/kin I think, has a minor drawback that you can't boost PA, but. I hear good things about it.

Ill/kin has some synergy problems . . . Phantasm likes to knock back your Siphon target for Transfusion, Transference and Fulcrum Shift. Plus, you can't buff Phantom Army. Siphon Speed lets you recharge faster . . . as long as you have a foe handy to act as a battery. Also, Illusion has no AoE damage . . . except for Phantasm's Torrent, but Phanty usually flies far enough back to miss your Fulcrum Shift buff (when he doesn't knock the target back, that is).
But both Illusion and Kinetics are very great sets, so in spite of the problems, they still work.
Another set that works well with Kinetics is Ice, but it has very low damage. Arctic Air mitigates that melee damage, so it is easy to stay in melee.

Out of Ice and Earth, which one does more damage? Or are they both equally as bad? Will Fulcrum shift help make up for the lower primary damage?

Earth does slightly more damage than Ice, assuming you take the powers that most people take. Stalagmites does some AoE damage. On the other hand, it is hard to evaluate the effect of the confusion in Arctic Air. My experience is that there isn't a whole bunch of damage being done by confused foes, since the confusion is fairly short duration.
Plus, Earth has a secondary benefit of tons of Defense Debuff. This means that temp powers and veteran's powers are likely to hit a lot more often. Add to that the fact that Rocky now has a toned down version of Seismic Smash, so I would say that he does more damage than Jack Frost.
Earth and Ice are the two lowest damage Controller primaries. Going solo with either is pretty painfully slow. With either one, if you expect to solo, take the single target immobilize (Stone Prison or Chilblain) early and slot it up for damage. It helps a lot.
Will Fulcrum Shift make up for it? No. Multiplying a low number is still a low number. The APP powers can make a big difference. Ice APP has two AoE damage powers, and Earth APP has two single target damage powers and a short-range AoE.

Earth/Kin would be my recommendation also, for the defense debufs, the Stone Tanker boosting, theme, etc.

I have an ice/kin troller. To be honest, I believe that earth would make a better toon than ice when paired with /kin.
The nice thing about ice is that you have to be in melee range because of AA and /kin powers require you to be in melee too (tranfusion, transference, FS etc).
Overall I believe that earth is a better control set and the -def really helps hitting.
The last thing is that ice graphics look better, but it's a matter of taste.
Speaking as someone who has been on both sides of that question, the tanker and the controller side, I'd probably go with a Fire controller. The Stone tanker, if competent, should be able to handle all the damage mitigation needs and Fire brings what the Stone tank is most lacking... damage. A good tanker will vastly reduce the need for large amounts of control but benefits greatly from high damage teammates.
Fire/Rad matures earlier than the Fire/Kin but either combo would work great. Rad brings awesome debuffs while Kin brings some nice buffs; unfortunately you have to wait until 38 for the best of them. Either should work great as a partner to a Stone tanker.
Oh, and any Stone tanker who says they MUST have speed boost isn't using their other tools to their best advantage. Sure, I love having it when I'm playing one of my Stone tankers (or any other character for that matter) but it isn't NEEDED; just a "nice to have". I use TP for my combat mobility so runspeed is largely redundant, I also build for an adequate attack chain and recharge out of my own resources.

Fire/TA or Plant/TA with a matchstick?
Opinion is heresy.
My wife ran a Stone Tank and it worked out great. The bonus is that she will round everyone up and get them nice and clumped for you to dismantle. Whatever primary you take, you should make sure it is a decent damage dealer, but I would skip Illusion, since she will set up good scenarios for AoE containment and damage. Illusion wont work as well bcs of Knockback and lack of AoE containment set up powers.
I played a Fire/Kin with her. Fire works great as it offers great control, AoE damage + high damage pets. I haven't played plant, so I can't offer anything on that. I would also say that Mind does offer good AoE containment capability as well as AoE damage prior to epics.
Ice and Earth are low damage powersets. You wont need as much control with her able to take the hits. I would skip these. Grav is decent ST damage but a slow hitter. Again, I think Mind and Fire are superior for the holes you need to fill.
I would definitely stick with Kin, as speed boost will make your wife's experience with a Stone tank so much better. Also, you guys are a team waiting to happen. You can add pretty much anyone you want and you will still steamroll.
K.. My wife rolled a stone tanker and we both leveled up to 35ish, I am currently playing a plant/rad controller. I have come to the conclusion that I should have went Kinetic.. I already have a fire/kin that is 50. What is a good match for a kin that has higher dps seeing as how stone tanker dps is FTL.
