Is being an ebil marketeer really this easy?
I know how profitable crafted IO's can be. I made my first few hundred mil that way (in huge, 15-40M chunks) selling them. However, I'm FAR too lazy to gather the salvage and craft IOs to sell. I know I'm leaving money on the table. That's cool with me, you guys can have it.
I'm *almost* too lazy to craft my own IO's, but I'm still too cheap to buy crafted ones. You guys can't have my monies yet!

And the funny thing is that people have realized that there's no need to even be secretive. For every person who reads and heeds this forum, there are 100 who blithely pay "gotta have it now" prices.

Or, as you saw in this thread, people like myself or Nethergoat that just pay for convenience.
... I get pretty squanderlicious when it's for my own use, as well.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Mostly on my main characters, I just run content and sell the unwanted salvage and recipes. I also take note when making IOs for the characters of any wildly profitable options between the recipe+salvage vs the crafted IO and tend to buy not only enough to craft what I need but to make an extra or three for sale as well.
So far this has taken my main toon from about 20 million inf and basic SOs to over 500 million and most of the IOs I wanted for him in about 4 weeks of very casual play. (still missing some LotG +rchg and a Numina unique).
Across all of my characters I probably have around 800-900 million inf now for playing this way.

I dropped 30 million on a level 40 Impervium: Resistance for the Goat last night because I wanted to slot it before I did my last mission of the night.
I'm sure I could have picked it up in a day or two for 10 million, but I was in a hurry. It's things like this that keep me short of the billionaire's club. =P

I want a Resistance of the Goat too!!! And i want it NOA!!!
I'm honestly shocked and a little horrified by how easy flipping is. I never got into it because I thought it would be trickier. It's just... not.

Well now we know why salvage is going for crazy prices on the market.

Because people are willing to pay it and are too lazy to farm it themselves?
No supply + mass demand = prices rise. Simple economics.

Here's why people pay so much for salvage.
Conspiracy theorists, pay attention.
Let's say a level 50 character wants to craft something to sell or to slot. Let's say it's an Expedient Reinforcement Acc/Dam they bought on the market for a few million inf.
They look at the market and hey, some of the salvage is way more expensive than they used to be. Pneumatic Piston for 100k? Jeez! That's not much less than the rare Essence of the Fury!
So at this point the player has a couple of options.
1: put in a 'reasonable' bid and wait around.
2: jog to the AE building and grind tickets to roll salvage with.
3: pay market prices.
Why do so many people opt for choice #3?
Because they have a couple hundred million in play money lying around and blowing a few hundred K on salvage for a multi-million inf IO that you're either going to slot or re-sell for many millions in profit isn't a big deal.
For a lot of players inf<time. Let's look at the investments we make in choices 1, 2 and 3.
I can bid and wait.
Sometimes these will fill while you're looking at other stuff, sometimes they take overnight, sometimes longer.
Time invested: 5 minutes to 48 hours (estimated).
I can hit AE and grind my own.
Time invested: 10-20 minutes for a soloer (expecting that you'll want to finish the mission for the ticket bonus- why not, since you're there).
I can buy salvage NOW for a few hundred k, craft my enhancement and be off.
Time invested: a minute or so.
Only one option offers instant gratification at no real cost (when you have tens of millions of inf a few hundred K isn't a meaningful sum). It should surprise no one that this is the most popular option.

I've been flipping all three tiers of salvage on a seldom used Dominator alt with decent results. I started the toon on July 4th of this year and he's now sitting on 103,664,017. I made this by simply flipping salvage, nothing else, no AE, no door mission or SFs or merits.
I'd say the total time of play per log-on is about 10-15 minutes.
