Are you truely a Hero/Villian and learned it all?
I share your concern. It's getting harder to find teams outside AE, or even AE teams that aren't PL farms.
Don't get me wrong. There are some great stories the players have written, but they don't get playedas much as the farms...
Sad for new players really. For COX, the journey to 50 really is most of the game.
You chose to MA your way to 50. Plenty of ways to play, and plenty of folks not doing that at all.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Oh, look, another AE is ruining the game thread.
Did we really need another one of these? I doubt it. And probably not from someone who confesses he used that mechanic to get 20 level 50 characters since I14 dropped.
Players who are interested in content will do content and most likely stay around to see what else they can find in-game. Players who race to 50 to find that they are now bored will likely quit the game. As you said, OP, it's been the same thing since the game released.
Oh - and what was the question?

Mod08 needs a sticky for this theme of MA ruining the game like he did for the farming ones.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
I didn't say AE was ruining the game, and yea I've played AE like most do, I just was reflecting on the changes and what the game is to a new player coming in. Those of us pre-AE I think have a better appreication of how hard it was. My intent was not to bash AE, but just to ask has AE changed CoX forever and for the better? I guess time will tell. Play on!
AE has only improved CoX. The old system is still completely there, and a completely legitimate way to get 50s (I'd say XP smoothing did more to 'hurt' that way than AE), we just now have another alternative. Of course there's always rooms for improvement, but I'm pretty much unconcerned.

I've been playing since CoH issue 1 (that's before there was a CoV) and I still only have a few 50s. All of them got there legitimately, with no PLing. I don't do farms except for badges.
Others have the same choice. If new players choose to PL their way up and get themselves bored with the game really fast that's their own fault. The game does not advocate doing that, in fact quite the opposite.
The game advocates exploration and expansion, not stagnation. Unfortunately many new players simply don't bother to read anything that isn't in the form of short broken sentences in broadcast. Again, it's their own damn fault.

You've used AE to make twenty 50's. I don't think most people play that way - not by a long shot.
My SG used to have two nights a week when we did TFs/trials. When AE came along, we changed one of those nights to 'AE night'. After a few weeks, the consensus was that we didn't want to do AE that much and only do it once every other week. Most of the people I know prefer the 'regular content'. There's nothing wrong with AE, but it's not 'the game'. It makes a nice change of pace and that's about it.

All of my toons I got to 50 were already in their 40s so I have no idea what it's like to use AE from the beginning but regardless of how you use AE, I am just looking at it from a new players point of few. How people play is up to them, I just don't think I would have liked the game as much coming into it today as I did three years ago.
Seriously, 20 50s in ... what, 3 months max? You aren't playing it the way *I* am, and certainly not the way that most of my friends do. In fact I'd be hard pressed to find some folks who DO run AE missions all the time like that.
If you encourage people you find with no vet rewards to play the normal game, their experience will be more like the one we had back when we were new and there was no AE.
MAKE the game something that the newcomers enjoy, rather than simply saying it's different. Yes, it is. But we know the process, and we should be the ones who bring in new blood the right way so that they don't ruin their own experiences listening to the "omg I can get you phat expees in no time!" broadcasts. Those are the people trying to turn this game into WoW or whatever, and I think it's disgusting.

Like I said all my characters were already in their 40s so it really wasn't that hard or took me that long to do it. I didn't have a single toon under 40 before AE.
While I am an admitted altaholic and it took me over 2 years to finally get my first 50, I have ridden the AE express to new lengths. Since AE, I have gone from having five 50's to twenty-five 50s. Having the summer off has allowed me a lot of extra time to play but it also gave me a chance to think. Over the past 3 years of playing, it now seems that with AE more and more new players will not have the same appreication for what it really took to become a level 50. Sure PLing has always been there as well as farms, but it just seems that CoX has turned into one farm fest after another. Most zones are ghost towns and I can't help but wonder what a new player must think about the game. How people play is their business but as a fan, I fear for the future. I'm sure beta players can speak more about all the changes than I, but as a someone who's devoted a lot of time and money into the game like so many, I just hope the game is around for another 5 years or more.
