I was rich once...
So THAT is what I'm smelling ... a new ebil?! Ahhhh!
I still remember when a Respec netted "big bucks" and I used every freespec to its fullest.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Selling generic IOs is a nice way to make a gradual, steady income. I do it on whatever toons I happen to be playing, because it doesn't take much time or thought. Serious marketing takes a lot more effort, with consequently larger rewards.
Working the market can be, of course, a game in itself. But I find that most of the time, I can make all the inf I need selling the generics without too much of a fuss. Largely because I'm just tricking out a toon's sets as they level up, not trying to do a big revamp purchase all at once. And I'm also not often bothering with purples.
But on the other hand, if you feel like doing it, there's no reason not to become ebil rich, just for the hell of it.

Anyway... started with a bit less than 100 million. The most expensive part of the plan was 2 full sets of Obliteration, but I was also buying 4-5 pieces of multiple other sets... and then crafting level 50 IOs for the rest.

Just a comment here. Even on my main (who is 'purpled out'), I don't bother with lvl 50 commons. Level 50's give you 4/10 of 1% improvement over level 45's and you pay through the nose for them.

I dunno, if you're not at cap they'd give you 2.4%. Yea, expensive though.

They are really nice if you want to just 2 slot a power instead of 3 slotting. You can get 83 % or so with just 2 slots vs 66 percent with sos or 79 with level 45 IOs. Seeing as 80 million for 7.5 % of global recharge in one slot is a common price to pay a million for 4 percent in a critical power is hardly exorbitant.
Selling Ios is low key?
I make most of my money off salvage.
Its a slow steady constant stream in imfamy.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
Yeah, I know level 50's are expensive, but A) My last enhancements lasted me more than 2 years, and these might last me forever, B) I have field crafter but I've never gotten the 45-50 badges, so I'm a bit closer to some of them now, and C) I'm greedy! That extra % I must have!
I did change some 3-slotting to 2-slotting as well. Before this, I had Dull Pain, Reconstruction, Moment of Glory and Build Up all slotted with 3 recharges. Now I have 1-2 recharges in them at most (depending on what other recharge from IO sets I have in that power), except for Build Up... which is 3 slotted for now but I might well respec again and use the 3rd slot somewhere else.
The other thing I did was get rid of Focused Accuracy. Way back when it seemed like a great power. It was an endurance hog, but I slotted it with 3 hit buffs and 3 end reducs and removed accuracy enhancements from my attacks, and thought I was stylin'. But that one power used up 6 slots and only gave me a 20% accuracy bonus... waste of slots when I can easily get more global accuracy from IO bonuses, if you ask me.
Normally I *do* take my time on these things and buy and build as needed while I level up. This is the first time I've taken one of my level 50s and tried to do everything at once. I don't recommend doing it that way, but I think I've managed to pull it off anyway.
I think one reason I felt like posting about it is... I spent nearly an entire evening, staying up past my normal bed time, just doing market stuff (except for 1 AE mission run). And I had fun! Every time a sale went through or a purchase came in, I was excited -- one step closer to my goal! Normally I'm one for placing orders and stuff for sale and then just ignoring everything for a day or two.

Update: Mouse Police is at 180 million tonight with a full set of IOs for sale, including some worth quite a bit of money. Should be well over 200 million by tomorrow morning.
That's after spending roughly 200 million within the last week reworking my build yet again. No purples (obviously) but two full Mako sets, 5 pieces of Scirocco's, 2 5-piece sets of Miracle (level 40) and a full set of Numia's (though I got the unique in a roll, didn't have to buy it). Also multiple pieces of Aegis (5 slotted in one power, 3 slotted in 2 others) and 2 full sets of the Zephyr universal travel.
All that IO hardware netted me something like 41% AOE defense, 36% Ranged defense, and about 22% melee defense (which bumps up considerably in combat with Divine Avalanche). At some point in the future when I have another respec I'll probably slot another set of Mako's to increase my ranged defense.
I still plan to pick up the Miracle +recovery at some point, but after spending so much I'm now just making money to see if I can get to a billion. At this rate I should make it easily before the end of the month. ^_^.

Organica, what secondary is your Scrapper?
Gratz Organica. Sounds like you're putting together a nice build.
For as much as you've enjoyed Mouse Police, I'd say 200 million is a bargain. You're going to be a monster.
Mouse Police (the Virtue version anyway) is katana/regen. Although at this point I'm almost tempted to say katana/regen/SR.
I did the manticore TF the other day though. All my lovely defense goes away as soon as I exempt down.
As of this morning: over 250 million.

I don't normally keep track of my characters except in my head. But I wanted to know how I was doing, so I wrote down the current wealth of each of my marketeers tonight.
A. I declared myself ebil in this thread on 7/1, so it's been just about 6 weeks.
B. At the time I had spent all the money that Mouse Police (Virtue) had, and discovered that I had something like 20 million or less left between all my Virtue characters (heroside). Most of my market characters on other servers had something short of 100 million each. My Virtue Villain had over 100 million, so she was my richest character.
As of tonight, I have:
Virtue (heroside): Mouse Police - 1 billion 344 million
Jalia Dragonfire - 366 million
Jennie Justice - 225 million
Shinobu Valentine - 80 million
Popeye Khan - 122 million
Shinobu Dragonheart - 82 million
Virtue (vside): Huntress Midnight - 366 million (has transferred 1.2 billion to heroside though)
Freedom Heroside: Sailor Shinobu - 615 million
Serpentine Fire - 385 million
Mouse Police - 458 million
Victory Heroside: Mouse Police - 600 million
Kung Fu Chelsea - 142 million
Infinity Heroside: Mouse Police - 373 million
(Most of these are my high level characters, but the last two are level 22 each. I'm especially proud of Mouse Police on Infinity because at 22 that's my highest level character, and I only have 30 salvage slots and 12 recipe slots. I've worked harder to make money there. ^_^ )
My goal is to have at least one billionaire hero and villainside on Virtue, and 1 each heroside on Freedom, Victory and Infinity. And in general make sure my characters can be nicely outfitted. So far so good. ^_^ I've even managed to outfit 4 or 5 of the above characters fully or partially with nice IO sets along the way, so I figure I've spent probably 500 to 600 million as well.
So... based on that, I'd estimate I had about 150 million total influence/infamy on Virtue on July 1st... maybe 250 million on Freedom, probably less than 100 million each on Victory and Liberty... so maybe 600 million influence/infamy to start with and now I've got something over 5 billion all told. ^_^

I'm a very low-key or low-level marketeer. I generally craft generic IOs for sale with 6 or 8 different characters, and when any one of them has 100 million influence or infamy I'm pretty happy. I might have a billion scattered across multiple characters on several servers, I don't know, but I haven't done any serious money-making.
I've been playing my level 50 scrapper Mouse Police lately. This character was 50 before IOs came out, and while I had a couple of IO sets slotted, the vast majority of my enhancements were SOs. I'd been tinkering with some set ideas the last day or two, but last night I made the decision to respec (a few days late on that decision I guess, but I have lots of vet specs anyway), remove a power here, change some slots around, and then slot for global accuracy, global recharge, and as much defense as possible, particularly smashing/lethal. I've paid attention to how much defense I get from Divine Avalanche and how much that affects my surviveability, and I wanted to up my base defense above 20% if possible.
Anyway... started with a bit less than 100 million. The most expensive part of the plan was 2 full sets of Obliteration, but I was also buying 4-5 pieces of multiple other sets... and then crafting level 50 IOs for the rest.
Mind you, after respec I had a lot of powers unslotted... so while I was not bidding for the "buy it now" price, I was trying to bid for the "buy it within the next 24 hours" price. So I knew I was spending money.
Halfway through the process, I ran out of money. And I realized that, of all of my other marketing characters, none were heroes on Virtue, so I didn't have a lot that I could borrow quickly.
I got creative. I borrowed a bit from two other characters. I pulled crafted IOs out of my base to sell. I sold a set of Mako's that I'd just respec'd out of. I started crafting to sell in earnest, using other characters so I could put more up for sale. 2 accounts FTW! I even joined an AE boss mission then bought a lot of bronze rolls to see what I could craft and sell (or even what would come up that I was already bidding on).
The good news is, as of this morning most of my bids had filled, so my character is nearly there already and certainly back to playable at this point.
Moral of the story: I need to get more serious about my marketing. 100 million just isn't that much money, when it comes down to it. I don't think crafting generic IOs turns enough of a profit quickly enough for me anymore....
