Story Slots added to Vet Rewards?

45 months would be a good place for one, I think

There have been good arguments both for and against allowing MA slots to be given out as Vet awards.

I think as a compromise the Devs should allow one extra MA slot be given just for the 45th month Vet award. This would be more than NO Vet MA slots yet still allow the "pay for MA slot" idea to be of some value to everyone.

As the only Vet award that didn't get a "unique" award assigned to it the 45th is an obvious choice.

I think two in total is a good number, personally. You can have a max of 5 purchased story slots, added with the 3 you start with, giving you a total of 8. With another 2 from Vet Rewards that would bring you to a maximum of 10, which is a pretty good number all around.

Yeah, I know it's a little finicky, but I'd much prefer to have 10 be the max, rather than the 8 we have now. Or 9 or 11, or how many adding them to Vet rewards might bring it to.

And providing both vet rewards and paid options would alienate new players how???

As opposed to offering only a paid options, which alienates people who are getting sick of micro-transactions.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sick of micro transactions per se. However, something about paying for more MA slots just does not seem right. It feels like that scene in Tom Sawyer where Tom was making a killing from the other kids by convincing them to pay him for the privilege of whitewashing the fence that he was supposed to be doing himself.

MA slots should be earnable (it's okay to have them buyable, but other means to get them should be possible). Otherwise, this is just NC getting its customers to pay them for the privilege of creating content for them. If purchasing slots gave us shared rights to our creations, then I would be all for it. Otherwise, to sum it up in one syllable or fewer...

meh.

It'd be cool if they chucked in a couple of story slots on the lame vet levels when all you get is a badge and a costume change token...

Giving veterans many Story Arc slots over non-veteran peers may create a divide between new players and older ones, especially if the amount given out is non-trivial. The MA has a large appeal to new players, given that it's a system not found in most major MMOs and therefore unique to CoX. Therefore, giving veteran players an advantage in creating story arcs lessens that impact of attracting new blood.

[/ QUOTE ]

Arc slots would be one of the most intangible, invisible, and least invasive of any vet reward. How exactly is a new player even going to know that I have more arc slots than they do (outside of me going "Nyah nyah, I'm better than you!")?

Moreover, how do they impart any actual advantage in creating arcs?

All in all, I'd think the Dev's Choice system does worse to demoralize MA enthusiasts than free arc slots would.

Meh. I hope we would get something better than MA slots. It would be just like the vet costume tokens to me.... unused. I wish we could sell/trade those dang things because I'd be rich just from selling them since my main has 39 of them. Ok that was slightly off track but I guess I could see giving out MA slots here and there for the ones that love to create AE mishs.

I don't know, I can't cite the source at the moment, but at one point, the devs said that they would never give away anything that people paid for, in relation to people asking for stuff like some of the add-on pack perks as veteran rewards.

[/ QUOTE ]

They may have said it, but it's not true at all. The travel power effects, for instance, not to mention some of the temp powers like Sands of Mu and the Ghost Slaying axe were part of a very early booster pack or "special edition" or something.

That being said, I'm sure there'll be some mealy-mouthed rationalization/cop-out on the part of the dev team as to why those particular ones don't count, but there you have it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Travel power effects? You mean the Non-DVD Edition Presitage Sprints? You didn't pay extra for those, unless your store robbed you. You merely paid early.

You don't get the DVD Edition's Power Slide because you did pay extra for that.

Sands and the Axe have never been in any pack - they are merely regular temp items already in game (both hero side).

Whether you love or hate microtransactions, allowing the most enthusiastic authors to buy more MA arc slots is a brilliant idea. Making them vet rewards would just be a bonus, especially since many of the MA enthusiasts are long-time vets. But whatever the arc limit is, it'll always be too low for some people.
