Certain sets do noticeably less damage. There was also some strange behavior with redraw that I've seen exploited so that the mobs wouldn't attack much, but I'm pretty sure that was resolved at some point. Either way, boss farms usually include a single type of boss with a generic costume, name, and easy combo of standard/standard powersets. They're not meant to challenge, they're meant to give as much rewards while being as nonthreatening as possible. I must be crazy, but I enjoy getting rewarded for challenging fights, not ones that I could breeze through half-awake.

What I've seen is a all-lieutenant custom group, generally consisting of Freaks. Then you had defendable objects, somehow actually stacked on top of one another, giving regeneration and/or recovery buffs. When stacked, these objects are buried in mobs.

Due to the buffs, a Tanker sitting in the midst of that would be in no real danger. Actually, a lot of different builds of different ATs would be relatively safe. Add some AoE damage, and you have yourself a PL set-up, wherein the individual being PLed could be contributing very little or nothing at all.

I understand power-leveling to be: being carried up through levels at a ridiculous pace with little or no risk involved. While the particulars may differ from traditional methods, this can definitely be accomplished in MA. The devs are likely to smish it where they can.

Power-gaming is a whole other thing. The "boss farms" being described sound more like that. Personally, I think the devs should leave such things alone. Being motivated by challenge is not a bad thing. This is a game, after all. People who pull out all the stops are naturally going to level much, much faster than those who don't, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

You've just described 99% of the content in this game.

Really now, CoX is not exactly the most difficult MMO out there. Ever since IO sets came out the vast majority of the content which was balanced around SOs became trivial. Unless you actually manufacture challenge for yourself, such as trying to solo every AV in this game or 2 man the LRSF, the challenge factor in your average run of the mill content is minimal. I'm not trying to sound like I'm this amazingly skilled player who can breeze through 99% of the CoX content with just one arm and both eyes closed. I'm just saying that CoX wasn't designed to be a wipe til you cry, 50 man raid on a 100 million HP uber mob type of game. I've played those types of MMOs, a lot, and the difficulty level in those MMOs is tear inducing when compared to CoX. The way I see it, the difficulty level between your typical level 53/54 farm and your average TF/SF/story arc is negligible.

QFT. Honestly, I've played all Heroside ATs and when some people start to claim "Things are too hard on Heroic..."; I honestly go...

But that's exactly where the issues begin. The definition of fun for some is not the same for others. Some people will never have fun unless they can figure out and employ every technique (even the ones deemed as exploits by the Devs) to maximize something, may it be damage, soft-capping defenses and damage-resists or XP-gain.

The moment a tool that tells you how much XP you're making by the minute comes out, that's where these things start, and to be honest, in my transition phase from playing just single-player RPG's to playing MMO's as well, I became quite disgusted with the notion of "optimizing" my XP/l00t gain so my character would level-up and improve its stats faster. For me, enjoyment of CoX comes with enjoying the game mechanics and the gameplay differences in each AT/power-set combination, not at how fast I can level this, or that character... but as always... YMMV.

I smiled when I read this mate.

Darn those pesky devs making me slog through 50 levels before I could actually experience the glory and bliss that is my PB and WS, shame on them.

People try to get to 50 fast for so many reasons.

I know people that have been actively playing for 4+ years and cant play worth a damn. Not pl'd. No farming. Lots of hot cat girl ERP. RPers seem to be the players that cant figure how to play.

[/ QUOTE ]

What a load of stereotyping, discriminatory hogwash. Good job on generalizing RP'ers solely as cat girls and ERP'ers too.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually I find some of the worst players have names like xxxfirekinxxx, cookie-cutter uber purpled-out builds, and a complete lack of understanding that not every mission in the game is [insert favorite farm mission here] and sometimes the one tactic you know will not work.

This is way to damned true.

Got that right. That's why I get depressed when I see MArcs rated down solely for being "too difficult". Don't discourage groups that take actual thought to put down, damnit, this is the only place in the game where I need to be awake while playing!

Can you imagine starting a Kheldian character and hoping to level it up without first gaining the knowledge in gameplay mechanics that leveling (and teaming with) non-Kheldian characters gave you?

Very true. However, in essence, these MMO games are all about gaining levels anyway and then repeating your content-of-choice or repeating the whole thing with a new character... this makes me wonder, why even bother to make the trip to Lv50 as fast as you can? It's not really like the gameplay changes that much, is it?

I believe that a Kheldian Gold Standard should be based on SO's, and for anything above that... there's Platinum!

Untill they hear about a TF/SF and we have to team with them.

Good points. Although one of the hardest things to get new Kheld drivers to see/do is to play a Kheld as a Kheld and not x/y/z AT you just got to 50 on.

The essence of what you say, im in agreement with mainly because people don't RTFM.

how would they hear about a tf/sf if theyre still in atlas/cap?

Okay the Tarikoss...yeah it happens. But Atlas/Cap is keeping them contained.

Just wait till they figure out they can do stuff in the RWZ co-op style.....
ahh who are we kidding.

There's another thing... did you actually take a close look at a game manual lately? They've gotten so slim, small and useless in comparison to what they used to be, that I can't really blame anyone for not reading the manual that comes with the game.

Now, if only there was a Class Manual... you know? ... Oh... wait... there's GUIDE FORUM SECTION!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Hey, here's an idea, what if the CoX Client actually LISTED those guides and let players open specified guides from within the game itself and read the guide IN the game?!?

You know, NCSoft/Paragon could actually take some of the guides and re-format/edit them so that the game-client could actually reference the guides in real-time in-game... wow would THAT ever make things easier... huh?!

On second thought, it would also validate the contribution the community has given the game.... do we want that?!

Yeah plenty of games take player made guides and use them in leiu of dev made stuff. Yes, it would be excellent for them to refer to them especially the Kheld quide.

I thought I would say a little something here on behalf of new players. HTH are they supposed to learn how to play this game if nobody will team with them, I guess all the vets here are just geniuses for finding someone willing to help them out and team with them, or did you people start out playing a level 1 character? Maybe you can just explain to new people what they could do better instead of just lumping the good with the bad, oh right that takes some effort on your part. If new people don't get into this game it will be very boring, especially if the same people you team with leave for a different game. I think you might agree everybody was new once. How about a little help for the new guys? No I am not new, but I have no problem playing with new people and helping them get better. If it bothers you so much teaming with a new player then don't.

Oh I agree, I help new people ALL the time (just ask LordXentie ) because I got helped when I came to this game new.

All I can say is what my mate says all the time, people are a trip. I don't get mad right off when people don't know something and I don't check their vet status when conveying information, which is how I help people.

I have no problems teaming with new people, not even when I play on my Lv50 characters. After all, that's why we have such a great sidekick/exemplar system like I've seen in no other MMO.

I do have a bit of a problem teaming with people who're looking to maximize their XP/l00t gains because it tends to render the whole game experience rather boring for me, so I usually politely quit those teams.

[/ QUOTE ][/list]QFT, DK helped me face some Kheldian issues when I decided to give my Kheldians a 2nd chance, and I too was helped by others when I came into the game.

I just don't really understand someone who just got into the game and wants to gain 50 levels in a week or less without investing the time to actually play their character and learn how it functions in both solo and team situations. People like that I simply cannot help because what they may want from me, i.e. powerleveling, is something I cannot provide because it very much goes against my way of thinking.
