Black Hole power from Dark Miasma
It is an extremely situational power. If you get double aggro, you can lock down one spawn to give you a little breathing room, or if you are about to team wipe you can cage them to let people rez and back off.
But yeah, that's about it.
This pretty much describes foe intangibility powers generally.
I might have to select it for my second build and give it a try. By the time you reach 50, you have several powers that you use only when the time is right.
I didn't pick it first time around because of the backlash against the player that used it, but that was just not using the power correctly.

Two ways to go about it.
True "OMG O[censored]O[censored]O[censored]" and "we are getting in over our heads." powers
The former you slot for accuracy, the later you do not.

On the new 5th Strike force, there's a small room with an AV and three spawn within agro range. I immediately Black Hole the furthest group to keep them out of play until the other two spawn are dealt with. After we cleared the room I said, "I want to go on record that Black Hole was used in a strategically sound way that helped us survive."
It also helps to make a macro for it, mine is:
/macro BH "local $target and surrounding foes have been put in a Black Hole and are unaffectable$$powexecname Black Hole"
Remember, it's AoE.

That's what I love about this forum, I learn stuff every day!
What's funny is I was looking up stuff about villain healing for another thread, saw Black Hole and just sat and tried to figure out why I would use it. Glad to see my strategy & tactics acumen is still working.

Any other suggestions why this could be a useful power?

It's like the storm set. In the hands of a skilled player, it's pretty darn useful. In the hands of a goober, the most likely result is to irritate teammates.

Same with wormhole from grav set.
Though it is an awful lot of fun to make it rain Minotaurs, Cyclops and robots during an ITF.

Interesting thing about the AOE intangible powers (Dimension Shift and Black Hole) is that slotting them for Intangible Duration doesn't increase the duration - it actually increases the magnitude. IIRC, the single-target intangible powers (Sonic Cage and Detention Field) are already at maximum magnitude by default.
One other really effective use for intangibility powers is to remove one of the Lord Recluse's towers from play while doing the final mission of the Statesman TF. I've done it with Detention Field and with Sonic Cage before and it's very effective, but I've never tried using Dimension Shift or Black Hole. You might need to slot for Intangible, but I see no reason it shouldn't be just as effective.

[/ QUOTE ]Maximum? No. But Defenders and Controllers can cage any target except GMs in a single shot. (Corruptors and Masterminds cannot cage EBs in a single shot)

[/ QUOTE ]I would argue that between Fearsome Stare, Howling Twilight, Darkest Night, Twilight Grasp, and Dark Servant, taking on those 3 spawns at once wouldn't have been a problem anyway

Ok, I admit I am a little confused about this power. I actually had an encounter with it being used by someone else before I had contemplated taking it and the team was extremely mad at the user. We were wailing on a foe when suddenly, we were getting unaffected messages and had to wait until the power faded to finish defeating the foe.
It makes your foe intangible and you can't damage the foe, but I believe it also means your foe can't damage you either.
Only real use I can imagine is, if your team is about to be teamwiped by an AV, you can hit him with this power, giving your team time to regroup, run for safety, what have you.
Any other suggestions why this could be a useful power?
