Bots/Dark viable AV Killer
That sounds so much like my thugs/dark it's Eerie.
So here we are.
Two weeks from my initial post when I inquired about the viability of Bots/Dark for killing AVs and without a doubt the single fastest levelling blitz I have had in 3 years of playing this wonderful game. All without Com Officers too.
Now, to the OP!
Yes, Bots/Dark can definitely solo AVs.
This fight isn't pretty. In fact it's pretty haphazard. Not at all what I wanted.
But here's the thing.
I never expected to win this fight at all. The fight in the video is actually my fifth attempt because I defeated her on my first try and was totally unprepared so I didn't record it. Like many AV fights there is a certain element of luck involved so, while follow up attempts were still strong, I had to try a few more times to get it right. It's actually rather funny to me that I won this attempt as I forgot to toggle on several powers at the start. I don't have a single set IO in this build atm, although those are coming.
So what did I learn from this initial trial?
Well, provoke would have been useful to be sure. I've already decided to respec into that. Otherwise I think the initial strategy of getting enough recharge to immobilize whoever I am fighting, softcapping my defense to range and having perma fluffy is the way to go.
It's really quite fun. My poor brute sits completely unplayed. Oh well, he does have a full bar of patrol XP. That was my goal right?
The gameplay mechanic is so different. I really like how busy I feel. Very reactive as opposed to my normal scrapperish "repeat the attack chain/Heal when needed" process. Not that I'll ever forego my scrappers either, but it's truly a wonderful addition to a game I thought I knew inside and out. I'm sure Technogeist will go through a few revisions still, if not a bunch.
Always learning. Thank you everyone for the advice!

According to Red Tomax City of Data, the -resistance does not stack from the same caster. That said, being able to place a tar patch nearly adjacent to the first or on a separate group does have its attraction.

Isn't Tar Patch a pet like Freezing Rain? where each pet is a different "caster" and therefore they stack in practice?

Welcome to the dark side, my friend.
no joke
people think scrappers or brutes are the best solo class or most powerful class in this game
that's only becaues they havent played or poorly built a mastermind
masterminds ARE this games tank mages.

lol
And thaT video shows the flaw in dark MMS
Saw no threat to the MM, in fact don't think they even lost aminion hehe
So the problem one is faced when playing MM.. what else do you do while playing.. you only need one hand and really don't need to keep eyes on screen.. Oh I know.. log your brute on seconf account to play the game while your MM kills the AV without much need of an operator
Now I just needa good Dark/Bots build Ive decided to try MMs again...gonna think about a concept first
THanks for making me make yet ONE MORE alt! *sigh
hehe

lol well I'll tell ya what Max. Here's the final build I settled on. I've killed well over 20 AVs so far. Almost all of them on the first attempt. I've done many of them two at a time. I'm keeping a video record of all of the fights and I'll start a thread detailing the exciting ones when I am all done.
If anyone has any suggestions to improve the build please feel free to post. The general strategy is to immobilize and provoke from range in BG mode. This isn't always viable as a few AVs can't be immobilized so easy (Synapse) but even then BG mode really takes the pain out of it. I'm at 35% defense to melee anyway so tanking Synapse wasn't even too bad. He did take two attempts though.
As far as concept goes, I'll share mine too. It isn't fleshed out with names and details yet but the bulk of the story is there.
Technogeist was a turn of the century scientist in London seeking a way to charge his automatons with a permanent power source. His search led him further into the occult, eventually he hit upon the idea of imbuing them with unlife! Negative energy, the type which seemingly powers the undead. His studies took him to a small German hamlet where, at first, he was viewed very suspiciously but came to be tolerated, if not welcomed by the townsfolk.
One person in particular seemed to fancy the good doctor. Elsabeth, a local girl, became infatuated with him and romance began to bloom between them.
As the winter drew close the good doctor made several important discoveries, often in the company of Elsabeth and his robotuc servants. He created his greatest automaton to date. Finally he was ready to attempt to charge his masterpiece with unlife. But before he risked his efforts on the final product he would test it on his lab helpers. These 'bots had served him well but there thought processes were crude at best. If the experiment failed they could be replaced.
The results of the experiment changed his world forever.
As the Lightning flashed and the generators spun, crackling sparks of energy mixed with sorcery. The doctor chanting and casting, drew the power of darkness into his servants.
It worked! Their eyes alight with an inner fire they raised their heads and uttered the last words the doctor would ever hear.
"We will cleanse you father".
One consideration had been overlooked. The 'bots had been programmed to protect their master. Infusing them with unlife changed their...perspective? Life was foreign to them now. They were not alive. They were determined to protect their father from his own life.
They fired just as Elsabeth entered the lab. The last thing the doctor saw as his body was thrown into the dark energy generators was her terrified face as his servants turned toward her.
But it wasn't over.
Perhaps it was being thrown into the dark energy as his soul left his body. Perhaps it was the lingering incantations still thick with power, hovering in the air. Perhaps it was simply a tragic death and the sight of his loved one as he died. The cause does not matter now. What matters is that the good doctor's soul was charged with the same unlife as his 'bots. Charged with this unlife but with no body to return to, his own burned to ash, his soul found refuge in the only place it could.
His masterpiece.
Risen again the doctor confronts a scene of horror. Horror he orchestrated. The town is burning, the few people yet alive fleeing, and Elsabeth? Elsabeth is nowhere to be found. Presumably burnt to ash, just as he was.
But the 'bots? They answer his call, as always.
"Yes, Dark Father?"
The empty slot in Dark Embrace is for the PvP Gladiator set unique that adds 3% defense across the board.

Thanks
Hard to believe that as an AV soloist you pushed Howling Twilight all the way to 49 and left it with just the base slot.
I soloed practically every AV I encountered on my Thugs/Dark back in i7-i8, and HT was a crucial power that made it possible.
As I'm sure you know, it's a -500% regen debuff, but frankly I don't know where Mids' is getting the 90 second duration; unless something has changed since last I used it, the duration of the -regen is really only 30 seconds.
Now I realize that your AssBot has -regen in the Incendiary Missile attacks, so you clearly wouldn't need to lean on HT as much as my Thugs/Dark did (to say nothing of all the set bonuses, procs and so on that you get to play with), but it seems to me that if you had the 60-70ish second recharge timer on HT like I did, AV soloing would be even easier for you.
Just a thought.

You know what Chaos. I had no idea. I can't believe I didn't see that.
I really stepped into MM knowing absolutely nothing about the powersets and I have just been learning as I go. Somehow that huge piece information escaped me. lol. Thanks so much for posting. I'll look into respeccing right now. I'm almost embarrased I didn't know. Oh well wth we all start somewhere.
*edit to say that my fight with Dominatrix was 37 minutes long. If only I had paid more attention in MM school and actually read the power descriptions.
GOD Your so fired...need a new build hehe

LOL!
Ok ok! Here's what I am going with now. It appears to come out on top in every way that I think matters. Of course it costs more too but wth. We've got time right?
Excuse the power choice order. I just moved things around to get the slotting I wanted. I would choose HT earlier in actual practice now that I am more aware.
And Chaos? If you don't mind giving it a quick look over I'd appreciate it.
As for Mi'ds duration showing HT as 90 seconds perhaps that is meant to represent one of HT other effects? The -regen is indeed only 30 seconds.

Wow.
Just for reference I fought Dominatrix again.
HT took a 37 minute fight and turned it into a 17 minute beating.
Nice...can I ask why provoke? Instead of hasten? Just curious...
I might look at a leveling build and respec later...mmm..god why do you make me think this early in the morning!

Sure thing Max,
Provoke is there just to keep the bad guys targeting you. Spam it! Body Guard mode provides amazing resistances. Add to that the fact that this build is softcapped to range and AoE and the AV will hopefully be immobilized for much, if not all, of the fight and your survivability is considerably better than your 'bots. Park them somewhere close so they are getting the benefit of Supremacy and you don't lose BG mode.
Example
Setup on this fight was a bit rough. Corralling two fliers with ranged attacks is a pain. Posi gets loose later and really makes me chase him. I wasn't sure if he would get the debuff from Tar Patch if he was more than a few feet in the air so I tried to get him back down to the ground again.
ok so settin up BG mode is what? Pets follow? Pets defensive only?
That's correct. Pets on defensive and follow. Any damage you take will be spread throughout all the bots. I nelieve it's 75% resistances with all your bots.
Don't forget you can use Defensive Goto and Defensive Stay!
This lets you be within BG range, but out of AoE range. A targeted AoE on you does not wipe out your bots.
Where to now?

Build looks good. I think you'll find that HT really helps you; AVs just melt when you nail them with it. Also it's autohit, which is nice when fighting Positron, Mynx and other AVs with a defense tier 9. It keeps them from regenerating a lot of health when your pets can't hit them.
Heck, with AssBot -regen on top of HT and TG (see below) I'd be surprised if you couldn't take down GMs.
Perma Tar Patch would be nice if you could swing it, but a couple seconds of downtime is no biggie.
Ummm, and just to make sure you're aware, Twilight Grasp is also a regen debuff. It's only -50%, but it is stackable from the same caster, and remember your Dark Servant will be using it too. By using Twilight Grasp even though you don't need the heal, you'll be helping your bots take the AV down faster that way, too.
Anyway, grats on your successes thus far with Bots/Dark; here's hoping that the pursuit becomes even more fruitful now that you know about HT.
Well I made my bot/dark...its a baby at 24 right now...fun fun
You should be soloing AVs by 32.
This might be a dumb question, but what is the advantage of putting the two hami Enzymes in Protector Bots? Also, do you find that you use Repair often since you have Twilight Grasp? Thanks!
I agree the Pet I/O sets are kind of 'meh', but I have not slotted Hami-Ohs, aka enzymes either.
I like my Protector bots to have ~60% acc enhancement and 95% damage enhancement. Six slotted and using sets that can leave you wiggle room for stun enhancements, endurance enhancements, or heal enhancements, which I don't recommend the heal enhancement since it reduces how often the protobots heal. Protector bots have a lot of gadgets, but they really kick out damage, too.
