  1. So, I know DP isn't the biggest damage set of corruptors, but I am mostly going with a concept toon here. But I have no idea what to put with it. I have played a lot of /kin and /dark--so while probably good, I am shying away from those. I have one or two /rad, /storm and /time toons. Part of me wants to go with something new (to me) like /traps or perhaps /poison. And I have little experience with /Pain, /Cold, /Sonic, /Thermal. And I can only guess the redraw with /TA would be painful.

What do other people like? What have you enjoyed leveling with?

Looking for mainly PvE either solo or small teams. I am leaning toward DP/Traps.

    Thanks!

    Demon/Dark help

Awesome...thanks for the reply. I had not known that Fearsome Stare's fear was working like electric control's. Some of my controller pals have made it sound as if not all fears work the same and that electric's was fairly unique in that the mobs could go back to sleep. Maybe this was a fix across the board?

At any rate, not only is this good info for my up and coming thermal/dark, I am revisiting my bots/dark and will work this in.

    Demon/Dark help

To Psylenz: I am curious why you favor Fearsome Stare (sleep) over Petrifying Gaze (hold). I have a bots/dark MM who has been 50 for a long time, and while I took FS leveling up as an alpha mitgator, I eventually respec'd out. I found that the bots did too much AoE that the mob never stayed asleep long. Wouldn't this be the case on demons, too, or do they do less AoE? Or...is the whole reason for taking FS the to-hit debuff and the possible set bonuses? I know the DS gets his own bag of tricks and you do have Soul Storm (awesome hold), so is taking the dark hold just redundant?

Btw, I have tried the whole Presence Pool/Provoke strategy, and I have found Psylenz's advice about using Crack Whip/demon attacks much more effective. I think demons is definitely one set where the attacks can be worth taking. Plus the fire whip just looks cool.
  4. Whew...what a relief. It was like it was still there, but I could not see it ("claim") it. Once I spent enough on bids to get below the limit, it started adding the missing inf to my balance.
Hope everyone can learn from my mistakes.
  5. Ok, so I was moving influence around on toons, and I forgot that there is a 2 billion limit on a character. My toon was up to 1.7 billion, and I tried to move 525 million. Well, I hit claim...and everything seemed fine, so I DELETED THE EMAIL! Then...and only then did a message pop up telling me that I would have too much influence and it could not be claimed. The toon is back to 1.7Bn and the toon it came from doesn't have the missing 525 mil, and the message is not in my email. Tell me I didn't just lose 525 million.
    Please.

Think the devs would be sympathetic?

Right, which is part of why I went Cardiac in my Alpha. End redux plus some boosts to the resists. Though there is part of me wondering that if damage ouput is a tank's weakness, then should I have gone Musculature, and then made up for my toggle-heavy end issues by going Ageless in my Destiny slot. This of course would not add to my other resists, my regen, or my defenses. But say I wanted to solo an AV. Even before Incarnates, I could stand toe to toe with most AVs all day long (at least in door mishes--not talking about Recluse, here), but barely put a dent in them because my damage and DPS was too low (I am energy secondary with some ponderous animation times).

So, what do people think about that?
Is there a guide somewhere that shows you the numbers the various slot powers are capable of? I have no idea how much a tier 4 Musculature would really improve my dmg. But think it could be pretty good paired with Reactive's dmgres debuff.
  7. Thanks for the replies here. That clears a few things up.

For what it's worth, my Invuln sounds a bit like SpaceJew's. I am capped at S/L, have decent defenses, especially in a mob. I have a tier-3 cardiac alpha slot, thus I have no Endurance problems and have added to my resists that way. I have hasten and an LotG proc, so no recharge problems, and Dull Pain is near perma....which means I can sit close to max-HP a lot of the time. I went for extra ghetto-"damage" by taking Interface Reactive and by getting that nice Fortitude buff from Lore Seers. My regen is buffed, but it is not what I focused on in the build. So this sounds like it would fill a slight hole. It does not sound like Destiny will get you over the 3,534 HP cap on a tanker, and even if it did, it wouldn't last long...making +regen the better way to go on an invuln tank built as I have.

What I am still not clear on, and is probably a question for another forum is exactly how this buff works. In the game it talks about buffing teammates within the PBAoE....but given all the discussion, I assume "teammates" includes YOU too. Right?
  8. Been wandering around the forums and I am not quite clear on how the Destiny slot works. It seems like Rebirth would be a good choice for a tank as +regen would allow fast recovery of lost HPs and +HP would give you more to work with. But....does the +HP bonus allow a tank to go over the HP cap (say, after you hit Dull Pain)? Would the +regen be the better option?

To what extent do these buffs affect yourself vs your teammates? Is there a more desirable destiny to take on a tank?

    Thanks.
  9. I am leaning toward Invuln because I love my Invuln tank. But Brutes are not tanks. So...for concept reasons I've also considered Elec, Energy, SR, or Willpower. What does everyone think about the synergies with KM for Brutes with an eye toward PvE and survivability among these 5 possible pairings? Thanks.

    Oops, meant DR.

Thanks macskull and MrLiberty. The sad truth is at the moment, I can't quite afford Psyrene's build...so, MrLiberty, I find yours quite helpful as it is in my price range. Over time, I could invest more.

Still blown away by this whole don't-need-defense, and taking Vengeance just for the -KB and LotG procs....but it seems to be sound, prevalent logic. I don't play on a hardcore PvP server, so I could probably get away with less, but why chance it?

I've never been able to stomach a blaster beyond 30 let alone PvP with one, but yet I am enjoying my Psy/Em and it feels like a keeper. While I don't feel super squishy in PvE as if I'd rolled a fire blaster...I do wonder why no one seems to focus on defense on their Psy/Em PvP builds. Is it because DM renders defense ineffective in PvP? Is the fighting strategy here to just put out a lot of damage from range (ie best defense is a good offense)? I'm not criticizing...just trying to learn (gasp!) the rationale.
  12. Psyrene: 3-5 Billion is "cheap"? I'd hate to see your idea of expensive! Curious... you have all this KB protection, but not much in the way of defense, which seems unusual for other blaster builds I've seen. Why did you choose not to focus on getting at least Ranged defense closer to soft cap? Or to say it another way.... to knock you back, they have to hit you first. Thanks
  13. I have an old kin-energy defender that I am trying to make PvP-able, and I thought that taking advantage of Energy's knockback would be a decent strategy. According to mids and the Enhancement window in the game, Power Push can be slotted up to a Mag 45-ish. I tested this against an invuln tank friend of mine who only had Mag 18 against KB. And yet I could not even knock them down let alone back. When I checked the info on the power itself, it said it was still only doing the base KB (around 16). When going through the Enhancement window, it said it was slotted up to around 45. But clearly, it was behaving as if it was only doing mag 16.

My question, then, is Power Push broken or do they scale back its mag in PvP to the baseline, making it unenhanceable?
  14. I have settled on a Psi/Energy. I have old fire-fire and ice-ice, and while I've never learned to manage my fire aggro well, the ice has a decent bag of tricks to be survivable. But I can tell the Psi/Energy may quickly become my favorite for its damage potential (when not resisted), quick recharge, and range. Thanks for the advice.

Now...if someone could help out my pal who rolled an energy/fire blaster years ago.
  15. Well...I rolled a Psi/EM last night and played solo thru a mere 6 levels. Fun so far, though. I do see what you mean about timing attacks. I was able to hit a target at least two if not three times while it flew through the air following a power thrust. I don't count on that for PvP, of course, but fun to watch.

Still, it's a long way to 50, but this already feels a little different from past blaster combos I've tried.

Anyone have any thoughts on Ice/Electric? Seems that the -recovery, -end, -recharge could be nice in PvP. I have dueled against a Storm/Elec defender...which of course stacks the ol end-drain...and it was painful. So wondering if the elec debuffs would help Ice out.

    Thanks.
  16. I can certainly see the advantages of /EM, but I am wondering why Ice/EM is bad...or is it just Ice/* is bad for PvP? I can see how the Located/Placed upper tier powers of Ice would be useless in PvP, but perhaps fun to level with. Is Ice's real PvP weakness a lack of snipe? Is Psy's advantage its less-resisted damage type? Otherwise the powers seem comparable on the surface (excld the AoEs). Could Ice be made to work, or are you hosed without a snipe?
  17. While I have played for over 5 years and leveled nearly every archetype to 50 (some more than once, and some I actually play well!)... but the Blaster has always been elusive to me. It is not for lack of trying. For some reason, I lose interest by the time I get one to 20. I suppose this is due to frustration over lack of endurance and lack of sturdiness.

But the time has come! I must get a blaster to 50! But here's the catch: I am curious what people think is a decent combo for leveling up to 50 (probably in team play more often than solo), but then making the switch to PvP.

I have played a Fire-Fire, and while fun, I can't see this being great in PvP. I have an Ice-Ice, and I foresee similar issues. I am gathering that /nrg is a favorite among PvPers (they certainly outkilll my tanking, scrapping bootay in free for alls). So, I am considering Ice/Nrg or perhaps Psi/Nrg. But I could see how /Dev might be useful PvP-wise. The only thing I can rule out is probably AR/Ice. But hey, who knows....

So, again....must be fun to level to 50, but must have synergy ultimately for PvP playability.

    What say the masses?
    Thanks.
  18. Skelbringer, is that you?

If not, look up Letroy on LBX. He's got a pretty robust PvP build on his tri-form PB. Does a lot of damage from squid form, but can handle a fair amount. Switches forms to heal up. Has some good binds to throw up shields as he does so...

Wait...I am starting to think this is you.
  19. I am building a DS/therm and was curious about this too. I had heard that the rez is actually a high-damage AoE attack, and it might be worth taking as an offensive power. This would be akin to taking the dark rez and using it for its debuff properties. What I don't know is whether the thermal rez needs a dead teammate to actually work. Anyone know this?

If I need someone on my team to die just to get a nuke off...well, guess that makes the rez skippable.

That, or I should get vengeance AND the rez!
  20. My favorite part is no longer being able to use Wentworths or Email...and not being able to bug or petition it.
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219653

    Yeah, best issue ever.

Ok...well the new Posi is pretty cool as is being able to see my reflection in a window. But....
  21. I am having a similar problem:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219653

Though, the issue is not confined to just WW. Any UI button seems broken at this point. Cannot use email, cannot file bug report or petition. All my buttons seem to highlight and animate as normal...just nothing happens when I click them.

And it all started after I collected a piece of salvage I'd won on auction. And neither rebooting game nor my entire system has fixed it.
  22. I seem to be locked out of the WW user interface...as well as other buttons in the UI. Therefore...I cannot file a bug report or a petition.
Nearly anything that requires the click of a command button in a UI does not work for me. The problem first occurred after I pressed the Claim button on a won salvage auction. I believe what I had won was a recipe that I had bid on before i17.

Now...I cannot access other won auctions...nor even inventory I have stored in WW.

Here's my other post about it.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219653
  23. Well...rebooting didn't fix it either.

As mentioned...I can CLICK the button (I can see it press and depress), but nothing happens. The little red close-window buttons work. I can change tabs fine. But neither the Find nor Get buttons work. If my mouse button was stuck, I'd get similar results no matter what I clicked. If a keyboard button was stuck, I'd expect other odd performance no matter what I was clicking. But instead it is ONLY these command buttons in various UIs.
  24. I saw this post...and am wondering if somehow I got tagged as a spammer...which I am not (similar to the poster in the other thread). The difference is none of my buttons were greyed out. They all were clickable, but they did nothing when clicked. And it wasn't confined to WW, but to any button. I could click powers, and type in the chat window, etc. Therefore, I am confident I don't have a stuck keyboard button somewhere.

As I mentioned...I did restart the game. Twice in fact. I have just shut down completely and rebooted. We'll see if that makes a difference.

Even if it does....who wants to have to reboot their system every time they complete a single purchase in WW? Clearly it is a bug.
  25. I am posting here because it seems I cannot even post a bug report in the game. It all started with me winning a salvage auction (and not a cheap common one either!). I claimed the salvage; it successfully added to my inventory. I went to the next auction I had won. Clicked claim....nothing. I hit it repeatedly. Nothing. I went to Get the salvage I had stored, nothing. None of the buttons in Wentworths would do anything. Logically, I decided to file a bug report. I brought up the UI window, and when I click the button to submit the report...THAT BUTTON DIDN'T WORK EITHER! Next, I tried email. I had a friend send me a gift of 100inf. The button to claim that did not work. I hit the Reply button. That one did not work. I rebooted the game: same problem. I rebooted and swapped to a different toon: SAME PROBLEM! Now, suddenly, none of my characters can claim any items won or stored in WW, or send emails, or file bug reports. And I am not a spammer.

I would use extreme caution in using Wentworths and claiming items. Or maybe I just wouldn't use any of the buttons in the UI in the game. Or maybe....hopefully....someone is onto this issue and working diligently to fix it.

    I wouldn't know since I can't even file a petition.
