This is my current build now for Murcielago. You're definitely on the right track though. You'll want some accuracy in Dark Regeneration due to it needing some accuracy check for the enemies around you.

Dark/Shield Build Thread

I only see one major problem with your build. That spot on the top, where you clicked on "Dark Armor."

(sorry to sound bitter. I just logged off my 45 Spine/Dark... while a pile of $#!+... she used to be great. Way back before Enhancement Diversification gimped the hell out of her. I slotted her, respec'd her, IO'd her, and slotted her some more, and she still eats floor like it was on sale. Spines might still be fun, but DA just blows chunks.

Learn from my lesson- roll something else.)

I have. A few times. The aggro it draws VS the ability to survive that aggro is just way out of wack. There isn't a tank out there that could keep aggro off of me for long.

Like I said, this toon has been rebuilt over and over. After a while it feels like throwing my time away. It's sad when my Fire/Rad troller can melee far better than my scrapper.

MaHaBone, it's generally known that there are no bad scrapper secondaries. I understand things changed dramatically after ED, but Dark Armor remains a very viable set. Consider reading this discussion.

Maxtsorm and Santorican, you may consider adding more defense to your builds. You will notice the difference around 20% but things improve dramatically around 25%. I like to shoot for 30%

I been REALLY interested in making a Spines/Dark

So I threw together what I thought would be a pretty nice build

I went for basically 3 things

-Insane recovery 3.51 end/sec

-Respectable defense 23% Melee 22% Range (to pair with Cloak of Fears -to-hit)

-Minimal use of end in toggles

I have a large amount of spines/ scrappers and I can tell you that /dark is definitely not gimped. Its very powerful and synergizes quite well with spines. Once you get it slotted for endred properly, you become a lawnmower of death.

Your Dark Regen has 242.1% Accuracy mine has 254.7% according to Mids...I guess its set bonuses...is that the same..does it work the same?

NOW I gotta mess around and see if I can come up with some more Defense...*sigh...GIMME MORE SLOTS! hehe

Tryin to figure out how to get more defense might take me a bit to figure out where to take slots from

Do you think my power regen is too low? 3.26/sec use is 1.87 without usign the attacks...I might run out of power alot...mmm thats always been my problem. This is a very very tight build

Here, I'll post this build but keep two things in mind. 1) This build is not endurance friendly, it's largely not an issue for me. 2) I'm not a Oppressive Gloom fan so I built my Spines/DA with CoF instead.

If anyone has a YouTube video of a /DA NOT sucking, I'd love to see it.

See, I'd love for DA to not suck. I love the idea of a Scraptroller, that can survive by locking down/debuffing foes. When DA works like that, it is kinda neat.

When it doesn't work like that, it REALLY doesn't work. Even with three end reds in every toggle, you chow through the blue bar. And you have oh so many toggles. Not an Auto power in the set. Nor a power to help you manage/recover the blue bar. It also gets none of the -tohit benefits every other Dark set enjoys.

Maybe if OG sapped small amounts of End from your foes, back to yourself. Maybe if Obsidian was an autopower. Maybe if Death Shroud and Dark Regen had a -tohit effect.

Maybe Spines and DA aren't the match they used to be. Spines is so AoE heavy, it writes A LOT of checks DA just isn't ready to cash. I can see a DM/DA toon being much more viable. Or a Spines/Invul or Spines/WP.

If some of you guys like it, more power to ya. I sure don't see many of you running around in the game.

Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.

Just out of curiosity, how much end redux did you put in your attacks?

Things that will help your survival and endurance issues...

Slot for +max end bonuses over recovery, and stack those with accolades. You'll get +end recovery with other bonuses and slot the recovery uniques into health.

Slot the +chance for end unique from Theft of Essence into Dark Regeneration.

Slot for defense bonuses (S/L defense will help greatly, here's why) and stack with Cloak of Darkness/Combat Jumping/Weave if you take any/all of these.

Frankenslot for end reduction in toggles and look for any dam/end, acc/end, etc IO's.

I've applied this approach to multiple scrappers, tanks and defenders with at least two of each in Dark Armor or Dark Miasma, all endurance heavy sets. My endurance issues are equal to or less than my non-dark toons while running ALL toggles. These are things I've learned from several different sources, Desmodos being one of them.

Please correct me if Im wrong here...but isnt CoF very gimp now? and OG works better (or so I thought I was reading)?

Not everyone likes CoF. I can understand why folks don't like it. Due to the high endurance usage of a Spines/DA build, most players will chose Oppressive Gloom as it costs very little endurance. All I can tell is despite CoF low base accuracy and high endurance costs, I prefer it substatially more than Oppressive Gloom.

If you want my thoughts on the specifics of Oppressive Gloom vs Cloak of Fear, see those sections of the guide in my signature.

Try both, then respec out of one later. Definitely slot up Cloak of Fear fully before making a decision, as it requires more of an investment. You may find yourself with endurance issues with Cloak of Fear, but also keep in mind that in the long run, there are ways to manage those. You might decide, for instance, to level up with Oppressive Gloom because it's easier to pull off, then switch when you move to IOs. Or one of them might stand out as clearly better for your play style. But they're similar enough that I think it's hard to make the call based on numbers and recommendations. I think it's a situation where you just have to find out for yourself.

If you can get past the endurance issues and the lower accuracy of CoF, it turns into a great power with the mitigation is provides. Though the amount of -to-hit it provides is small, it in effect couples with your defenses. And remember you can always take advantage of the fear effect when you're not running your aoe toggles.

Personally, I'll take OG when I can stack it with a melee set that offers stuns.
