ok on the subject of declawing..as i work at a vet....
yes we do declaw cats how ever we only reccommend the front ONLY bc if the cat does get out it can defend itself and climb a tree if it needs to get away from something... if the owner wants all four (which we strongly try to discourage the owner ) we make them sign that they want all four done... how ever alos we dont ask the owner if they want declawing done , the owner has to request it...so i do find it odd that the vet asked you if you wanted it BBT

My vet endorses Science Diet pet food, which is crap, so I'm not really surprised by a lot of things some vets recommend. I always do my own research on an issue before agreeing to anything.

Muh? Oh, no no, misinterpretation there. The vet did not ask me if I wanted them declawed. The owner of the rescue program asked me if I was planning on having any kittens declawed, even before I met them. If I had said yes, they would have refused to meet me outright, I am sure.

I trust my vet on medical issues because I've researched their recommendations and found them to be sound. I just think they push Science Diet because 1) It's a little better for animals than Friskies or Alpo or the like, but it's still affordable, and 2) they probably get some sort of advertising revenue from the makers of Science Diet.
My inside cats get EVO, Castor and Pollux Natural Ultramix, or Innova.
My feral cat does get Friskies dry and canned food because she is extremely picky and won't eat the healthy stuff. I figure getting some Friskies in her diet is less unhealthy than having her live off of whatever she can kill or find in someone's garbage.

I feed my cat Nutro Max dry food, and put it in one of those self-feeders and keep it full. That way she only eats when she's hungry and doesn't beg.
I don't like feeding them canned food because of the preservatives, plus dry food is better for their teeth, kinda like a Milk Bone.
And I've never had a vet "recommend" food for me like that... I told mine what she was eating and the vet said it was perfectly fine.

yea food is all dependant mainly on what the animal, cat or dog, is willing to eat ... thats how we recommend food, unless there is a particulary reason to feed a special diet like liver or kidney problems and such.... we only sell prescription diet foods by Hills but only when the animal needs....
and mouse .... yea research can be misleading unfortunately we have seen many people come in from researching something and the research is wrong in comparison to what we know and have had done or seen in the practice, but again you have to know your sources and we dont always have the smartest of clients heehee
but if anyone does have questions you can always ask ... i am working on getting my RVT license (Registered Vet Tech).... and yoshi may or may not vouch for the vet i work at... her mom goes there heehee

For now, Molly and Olly nom on Science Diet. It's what they were fed in the shelter, and I did not want to change anything right off the bat. They have had both the dry variety, and the prescription wet food, when they had their colds, and they couldn't smell their dry stuff, so wouldn't nom it.
Pretty soon I am going to find another food-stuff that I approve of for them, and start using it as a "treat" for them. That way, when they aren't feeling well, or if they some how get out of the house on accident they will have another food they are accustomed to, and also, I will have a lure >_>
I want to keep my kittens used to different things, hopefully leaving more options if/when they become finicky, or set in their ways. Also, going to slowly get them used to wearing a harness, just because it seems like something fun to do ^_^ Right now, though, the harness is just another tow to chew on, and bat at <_<

Watch the expirey dates on those soft foods BBT, one time I forgot I had soft food (I use it as a treat once a month or so, or when we get a stray outside we will put food out) and it was around holiday time by the time things slowed down in Feb the following year they where expired, had to toss the rest out, really sucked cause it was the whiskers packages, a whole box worth!
Hey Nerf...
OK..ill bite... My kitty has the "sensitive" tummy. Any hints for a food for her...im getting tired of cleaning up the cat puke! We already give her the laxatone x2 days a week..OH she does NOT like that not one bit. Always a fun little battle!

Vixen defined by urbandictionary.com:
Totally gorgeous and amazing human female. With the cutest smile and a sweet body. Loves partying and drinks a lot but is still incredibly smart. But be warned, may jump you unexpectedly.
I use an auto feeder too, and in addition to the dry food they get from it, I give them each a small (4 oz?) can of wet food every 3-4 days as a treat. They also have a water fountain to drink from to ensure they get enough water. The autofeeder still doesn't stop Jones from hovering around me while I eat - even though I never give him people food.
Willow is super picky and will only eat canned food that is as close as possible to people food - in fact she LOVES baby food, but doesn't get that very often. Normally she gets... gah, I can't remember the name, but they are small cans that come in a box of four and have flavors like Chicken Pot Pie and Chinese Chicken dinner. They smell like something I'd eat, but I have never been tempted to try any. Jones is not as picky, but he mainly gets the chicken and turkey varieties Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys. I have heard that feeding cats too much seafood (tuna, salmon, etc.) can lead to urinary tract problems, so they very rarely get a seafood treat.
As for litter, I tried to be good and use World's Best, mainly because it's flushable and environmentally friendly, but also for the health of the kitties,. But I had to switch back to Fresh Step when Willow got a UTI and decided she'd rather pee on the carpet than in the World's Best. At least I have found biodegradable bags to use.

One of my cats has a nervious problem she pukes when she gets nervious or scared... drives me nuts >_<
Plus she loves to run around and be nuts and meow alot, think shes got a screw loose somewhere
well vix ... have you tried boiled chicken.... you may also ask your vet for something simila to what we use for dogs stomachs to calm.... its called metoclopromide ...it an anti vomit.... but ask your vet about it first... other wise try a wet food and only feed small amonts at a time just to make sure your kitty isnt eating too fast... some animals vomit when they eat too fast

So glad they are not declawed. Even my vet looked at me weird when I said I din't want mine to be declawed during the neutering/spaying process.
So did some of my friends.

I think declawing cats is mean, just incase they get outside or are outdoor cats they can't defend em selves, u can teach em when and when not to use there claws.
Only one of ours is declawed but she was my mother in laws cat first then she just ended up staying here I guess

Most adoption and rescue places around here won't even let you near their kittens if you mention declawing. The head of the program I went through pretty much interviewed me over the phone before setting up an appointment for me to visit the kittens. She even told me as I was adopting Molly and Olly that at first, she wasn't sure if she wanted to let me have them, since I was "so young" >_>
Well, yeah, I suppose 27 is relatively young, but I guess she mistook me for one of those kids with a life. You know, the kind that has parties, and spends all night drinking, dancing, and cavorting around town, sleeping with all the loose women o.0 I love being judged at a glance, it's always fun >_>
