Venus is a very good pet now
I am close to 32. looking forward to the plant personally. I am going to slot it with blood mandate x3, 1 damage, Lady gray proc and probably another proc.
Were there changes put in? I must have missed it. Last I played, it was still crap, but I havent played in like, 3 weeks. Can someone direct me to the changes? Which patch? Or are my standards just too high?

The pet was improved months ago to attack more and hold less, if I recall. She throws thorns and runs in to melee attack more often now. She is quite good once slotted for damage.
Oh, ok, I already knew about that change and didnt find it satisfying, so I guess it was a case of my expectations being too high. I just ran a solo mission and the pet was the same effectiveness that I remember. (Mine has max acc and dam, and the achillies heel proc thingy in it).

I leveled up my plant/fire dom before the improvements and haven't played her a bunch since hitting 50. I'm currently leveling up a plant/kin (46) and find it a much much better pet. Now I don't know if it just "works" better with controller than a dom, or if the +damage of /kin is the reason or what, but I see its contribution much more now than when I leveled up the dom.

There were three steps forward and and one-and-half steps backwards:
(1) It now uses Thorny Darts regularly, instead of getting stuck spamming just Entangle.
(2) If its target is able to attack (that is, not Held, Stunned or Confused) then the Fly Trap will close to melee range and Bite; perhaps stopping to use Fling Thorns on the way. It will stay at range and alternate Thorny Darts and Entangle if everything is mezzed. The pet would be better if it closed to melee range all the time. Unfortunately for me, I use Seeds on pretty much every spawn, so Twitchy almost never closes to melee range unless I deliberately aim so that I miss a mob.
(3) The range the pet thinks Fling Thorns has is now 1/2 of its actual range. As a result this power tends to hit more of a spawn when used, but due to the pet's tendency to stay at range it frequently isn't used at all, since the AI thinks it has only a 15' range. The net effect of this change is pretty much a wash.

I still find it unsatisfying / crappy, but I cast it anyway because it looks cool, which is reason enough.

Maybe improved, but still ranks as worst controller pet IMHO. Luckily the rest of the set makes up for it.
And I'd still disagree with the title of the thread, too generous.
I just have to say that Venus Fly Trap looks hilarious when used with Group Fly, toddling through the air on its little legs.
Its OK in a fight, I guess, but I still find its usefulness very much overshadowed by Carrion Creepers.
If you're playing solo the pet is awesome. The larger the group, however, and the more difficult the action the pet seems to just be a waste.
I find it's more beneficial to take tactics/manuvers and such for the team. I might try him out again, since I've never fully slotted, but I've never been too impressed (I do 8man groups exclusively)
It is quite good for solo work now or small teams maybe. It is not the only pet that is not so great on teams, Jack is not so great for a team. Jack may hold a bit and use CE some, but most teams will destroy a spawn before he does much of anything. Stoney is not that great either unless you are using him to tank for the team. All 3 are good for solo work though, and will reduce your mission duration by a goodly amount.
I wonder if it was because they tried have the pets do too much and not really doing anything in the long run.
unlike Imps which just go to town or even singy who controls more then anything. but jack and venus have holds have ranged and have melee but can't figure out which one they want to use.
For those who wonder if the venus flytrap pet is any good, I would like to say it most definitely is. Once it is slotted up with 3 damages, it is a pretty high damage pet since the changes were made a while back. I haven't seen it before, because I haven't been playing my plant controller for a while, so I just got venus 3 slotted for damage today.
My little venus eats small spawns up really fast, out damaging me by quite a lot. When it is a large group, she contributes quite a bit of damage and speeds things up a lot, but I do a larger percent of the damage than my pet. Still things go a lot faster with her at my side. Whether ranged or melee she does good damage now. Not as much as fire imps, by any means, but still very solid damage. With a damage enhancing secondary like kin, it would really be excellent.
I know the topic of venus comes up once in awhile, and not everybody is as optimistic as I am about her damage ability. I thought she sucked too until I gave her 1 slot for acc and 3 slots for damage. I find my plant controller to be very fast at completing missions, and is one of my best damge dealing controllers.
