Ah, different names...that makes a lot more sense! Looked up the Big Boy restaurant chain on the Holy Book of Wiki...if anyone is interested, you can find a list of the names for each region there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh look at that, Liv was right, there is a Bob'.s Big Boy and apparently right here in Cali. Huh. Oh and they own Golden Corral as well? That makes soooo much sense considering the great buffets from both restaurants.

I am totally NOT a foodie, srsly.

I thought it was called "Bob's Big Boy", it has that iconic 50's style fat kid holding a burger in the air as it's mascot, right?

[/ QUOTE ]

The name varies from region to region. In my part of Ohio, they're Frisch's Big Boy. And their signature burger, the Big Boy, is quite good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh... that's why. I wondered why the name seemed to change depending on what channel I was watching, I thought I was crazy...

Yup. That is my memory as well Arwen. It's called Frisch's Big Boy in that area of the country. I grew up in northern Kentucky 10 miles from the border of Ohio. Mom worked at Frisch's actually now that i think about it.

In Florida it's just Shoneys and they drop the big boy out front though. The menu's all say Frischs Big Boy though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Did you grow up in Erlanger?

And I love their breakfast bar as well. It's so good.

There are a handful of Bob's Big Boy locations in California, but they're all concentrated in the LA area.

[/ QUOTE ]

Showing my age here I guess. I remember when there were Bob's Big Boy restaurants here in the Bay Area. I loved going there as a kid. Thanks for the memories guys!

Was there a Bob's Big Boy near the Winchester Mystery House? I recalled there was also a Bob's Big Boy in South Lake Tahoe.

That sounds right. I think there's a Flames there now? Also, the one I think I went to more as a kid I think is currently a Coco's.

And yes, Scimi and I do have a hotel room. We are thinking cheap hotel by the airport and several bottles of Thunderbird. Who's in?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you and Scimi are going to stay at a hotel by the airport, I know a good dim sum place in Millbrae that we can meet up.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're on, Scimi has never had dim sum, which is a mistake that must be corrected. Burgers for lunch, dim sum for dinner, and a seedy hotel room and a case of Thunderbird for dessert!
Or would we prefer Night Train?

On a side note, when i lived in toledo in the '90s we had Frish's and Elias big boys. Periodically the bid boy statue for the Secor Ave restaurant would get it's head cut off.

Normally, Dim Sum is served during lunch and brunch.

thanks, you know i didn't put 2 + 2 together that i never have seen it offered at dinner time. too busy eatin to be thinking. perhaps I can find a decent dim sum place for scimi's first taste on his arrival. although his flight gets in just before 2, so that might also be too late. poo.

If it's too late for dim sum in the bay, you can always treat him to Dim Sum House sometime during the week. We haven't done a Dim Sum House run in quite awhile Peep!

Also, I'd like to pick the brains of our Bay area folks...is 11am an okay time for y'all? I didn't think of the math and it was brought to my attention that you guys would have to leave around 9:30am or so and would have to get up a tad bit early for a Saturday. Should we push the start time of this back to noon or 1pm?

11AM is doable for me. I don't know about everyone else...

I will have to see what I am doing that weekend, sounds like this could be a lot of fun.

I Googled & MapQuested a trip to Redrum & both figured it would be almost a 2 hour trip. I imagine it would be longer if I tried to mooch a ride with DD & Chewie. For a trip like that I think I'd want to stay longer than just for lunch. Any suggestions on what to do after lunch?

I feel that anything that is conducive to the group getting caught up and/or getting to know one another would be preferable. Movies can be good fun, but rank low on my list for group activities since the group just sits speechless for a couple hours. Not good for getting-to-know you kinds of things. There's always the MU games area with arcade games and bowling. Or we could do what we did after Korean BBQ during the '07 M&G and stop in at a coffee shop for chatting and coffee consumption.

Or, since it's Davis, we could get in our cars and drive around running over as many cyclists as we can

Bowling might actually be awesome, if for nothing else than the students will have all vanished by this weekend so by the time we are talking about for a murder burger thing the MU would be a practical ghost town.

If by good Dim Sum you mean the Hong Kong Flower Lounge (big peach building by the corner of Milbrae Avenue and El Camino) you are right it is good, although I prefer the food at Fook Yuen (about 2 blocks south on El Camino I believe and yes that really is its name). The spare ribs are to die for. If you are in the mood for Thai in the area I recommend the Thai Stick (yes also really its name) which is 3 blocks north on El Camino but the best food in the area is a small Vietnamese resteraunt 2 blocks north on El Camino (just past Pete's Cafe which is good for breakfast or deep in the middle of the night, the german baby which is really the name of the dish is excellent) called Le Petite Camile.

The best Dim Sum I've had in the area is Koi Palace in Daly City, but I'm not really an expert. Also it's been like a decade, so take that reccomendation with a grain of salt.

And whoever mentioned burger joints in the East Bay and left out Nations is going to hell for the unforgivable sin of not mentioning one of the best local chains (also does a good breakfast).

Now I'm hungry.

Well, at least Moderator 08 posts here using an account that won't show on the Community Digest and bring in the unwashed masses.

Would love to be able to join you all, especially for the Murder Burger run and comradery.

Hope you all have a good time.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Mod 8 is right that Koi Palace is the best place for Dim Sum and also for seafood. You have to go early to get a table because if show up around noon, you will be waiting for at least over an hour.

Currently, my favorite Dim Sum place is Zen Peninsula on El Camino Real in Millbrae.
