Dual powerset builds, going rogue tie in

I always though it would be cool if you could do a second build with different powers, maybe even a different AT, you wouldn't have to keep your level, so you would switch to different powers and have to level from lvl 1 again. Or maybe have your second build start at level 20, and to balance require you to be level 50 to unlock it.

I don't see how this would be unbalancing in any way, you wouldn't be able to mix and match powers from different ats, it would be like 2 different characters, but would be a great way to breath new life into old farvorites, or to add more depth to your characters back story.

I can see thematic reasons for this with going rogue, for example, my dark melee/shield brute could go over to hero side then make a second build as a super strength/shield brute or even tank because he decides not to use his dark powers anymore.

Another example for thematic reasons would be an iron man like character with all his different armors.

Common suggestion, and just as commonly broken down to explain why it's a bad idea.

...I'm sure Aett or Bill'll be along at some point.

I see it being a common request, but didn't see it on the first couple pages.

I do not see why it would be a bad idea, unless you kept your level, but starting over at level 1, I don't see any bad sides to it other than the possible work required by the devs, this seems to be something that would either be incredibly easy to code, or incredibly time consuming.

If you remained the same AT and just leveled to 50 like before, I don't see how this would unbalance anything.

Virtue: The-Invictus (Blue)
The Emissary of Justice - Level 50 Fire/Fire Blaster
The Emissary of Justice. - Level 50 WP/Fire Tanker
Mesmerius - Level 50 Psi/Mental Blaster
Nucleoa - Level 50 Rad/Son Defender

Except, what's the point in this feature if it's identical to creating a new character?

I suppose if you already had 396 characters, but I doubt that's common.

I don't see the AT really mattering either, as long as your base stats change as well, whats the difference between me logging out of my tank and logging in my defender, and me going to the trainer and switching builds.

It's mostly for thematic reasons, probably why it will never get done, don't you have any characters that you really loved and would like to develop another side to?

Or a character who will switch sides and have power changes to represent their change in mentality?

I normally just roll up a second character with identical height/sliders/costumes. Or, slightly modified costumes. It's effectively the same thing, for the most part, especially if you do it cross AT.

if you want different powers, roll another toon. this falls in the same category as those that ask for a complete power respec when they hit 50. the second build for your toon is for either a PvP build or solo/team build depending on which is your first. i see absolutely no reason to have the second build change to a different AT or set of powers.

Nah, I don't feel like stopping by.

Damnit!

Oh well, since I'm here. Yeah, what the above people have said. If you're just starting over at level 1, with new powersets, then there's basically no need to create this mechanic, since it's the same as starting a new character.

Like the name and the look, but want to try new powersets? Buy a rename token, or create a character with the same name and look on a new server.

The only difference between your idea and a new character is probably badges, with many of them that are not meant to be on new characters.

I really just don't get the point, or see how it's much different than rolling a new character, sorry.

I have, and have done this, actually. However, it usually involves a name change, even slightly. For a while, my namesake character had a duplicate, but a Brute instead of a Tanker. Dark Thorn vs. Aett Thorn. Dark Thorn didn't last long, as I wasn't a fan of the new powerset concept, but it was there. He looked the same in appearance, but the name was changed to fit the different personality.

You can create characters that are really similar, but that have different powersets. Just takes a little bit more imagination to do.
