Laylyn came back and tried to get Guardian Wars restarted awhile back. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of jerks that showed up to the event and made it so irritating for the majority of the folks present--as well as for Laylyn--that there was only the one attempt at it.

I doubt very seriously if you'll ever see Laylyn or Haunt come back to make another run at it.

Actually, the Guardian War project was abandoned by Haunt because of lack of numbers redside. Feel free to contact Lay to verify. It had nothing to do with anyone being a "jerk" as implied in the above post. Link below is a youtube video at the first attempt at ressurrecting the War. Filmed by a villian. Watch it and note the difference in blue numbers over red side . Unfortunately the second War ressurrection turnout was much the same as the first in regard to unbalanced numbers . Lay and Haunt gave up because it wasn't fun and the numbers were not going to change.

As much fun as the Wars were early on ,Guardian does not have the pvp population to support another of tha type of event at this time. Its a shame too the early Wars actually spawned 2 instances of SC once.Talk about a "sea of red". Good times!

I suppose someone could put together something for Bloody Bay and mass advertise. Just schedule a day and make a flier than invite any player you come across in game to get it populated. Maybe that will get some of the " casual" pvp interested? After all a whole system was revamped just for them.Ironic they aren't interested,eh?

To you Guardianites that still have an interest in pvp? Make an event. Advertise said event. Make it happen. Thats how the Wars happenned and they were a glorious and fun run for all that participated.

I didn't say I was there for the attempted restart. But I did talk to Laylyn, both in an ongoing way during the original Guardian Wars as well as both before and after the attempted restart.

And just so you can get some of your facts straight, TA was involved in more than 2 of the original Guardian Wars events...we were involved on some level in just about all of them. It's one of the reasons why Laylyn was registered on our forums...to discuss these kind of events.

I told her before the attempted restart that TA wouldn't officially have any involvment because we weren't doing that much PvP anymore, but that we might have some individuals show up. After it was done, she sent me a message indicating that it was clear it wasn't worth trying again. And while she did indicate that the numbers were low and unbalanced, she specifically told me that there were a number of jerks present that made the "casual PvP" participant not enjoy the event enough to stick around. If you say that wasn't a part of it, maybe you were a part of the problem. I don't know who those folks were, just that they were present according to Laylyn. It was a very negative experience, and that is why I say I doubt you'll see her do it again.

And if you want to talk about cookie people on the server, don't breathe my name in the same paragraph. Never been one, never will be. Better yet, just answer the question that's originally asked and keep your opinions about other people's right to do the same to yourself...especially if you don't know as much as you think you do.

yea as far as wulf said about TA pvp involvment in guardian wars or pvp in general, back before red team split with TA due to our pvp nature and the rest of the guild focusing more on pve, we were always at every pvp event possible at least in the 3 years i was on red team, even if we were told that we couldn't be on "tagged" toons; as far as pvp involvement after we left i have no idea. i do like the fact that they are starting to at least try some group zone stuff a little, and hopefully it sparks more pvp involvement on the dying server we have.

as for after the split everyone that still played the game played in the events under ppl either quit the game or transferred servers. since i came back in janurary to the game i've noticed theres about 10 or so old school pvpers still on the server, but with the i13 pvp changes its basically a joke nowadays.

HAHA I remember this.. You both are right but in different ways. Lay came in and ran it the first time it seemed to run alittle smooth. The second time is when it all went wrong. Kiri's group was the strongest pvping group which included doc..They had both strong villians and heroes. Well, if they resversed sides that side would win. So they would shift in between the sides starting out villians then if Lay would see villians were steam rolling blue he would call for them to shift sides to blue side. Well eventually they got tired of shifting to sides. This is where the jerk comments come in because they got tired of shifting sides. I cant remember which side they stayed on Im thinking it was blue because Lay was extremely pissed.
Either way they were fun but it would never work now noone on this server wants to play redside. I went to the TA event for all of about 10 mins. 8 villians to over 20 something heroes is not my idea of fun. But I give TA props for holding the event and always being gracious when playing and not trash talking.

Just for the record. Laylyn is a man. The team you're talking about Willow was Kiri,Cronic, Me,Grass, Nick, Justin and there was another person but I don't remeber who. It WAS funny!! J says" I can try to emp" and I was on a fire//stone tanker every time we flipped back and forth. I had forgotten that part. Thank you for the memory. Such craziness!! I think you and I were flippin vents like madwomen trying to get the Haunt battle plan and keep sides balanced. Do you remeber that? Kiri told me I wasnt allowwed to go to the bathroom that I needed a bottle..... that dun work if you have to squat to tinkle.

i think we switched sides maybe 6 or so times, i think towards the end of it we ended up going to the arena after switching toons like 6 times or so, but i could be wrong its been a while. for clarification purposes that was after our team left TA, and we were running Deception back then before everyone kinda got bored and went there own ways, right as i went back to wow about 4 months pre lich king.

I got note on our website to check this out from an old ally in BOP.

If you want to restart the Guardian Wars, you need to do the following:

1. You HAVE to build coalitions with both sides. In the first run, BOP was our center guild for Villians and TA helped fill the numbers you'll see for number two. That's a simple number though in truth, we had agreements and props to at least 10 different guilds on both sides to keep numbers consistantly up. On top of that dozens of guilds joined in the original Wars.

2. The Guardian Wars work best in RV when the numbers are above 50 vs 50. The ideal is around 100 vs 100. The reason being that individual builds matter less in that large of an engagement. The complaint is normally lag, but this is the way we made the whole thing work.

3. It has to be made in such a way that the hardcore pvper has plenty to do and the casual pvper has to be able to have fun too. The central idea of the wars was to grow the pvp base of Guardian. At one time it was 1/3 of the total players online on boths sides, which is a record that no other server ever touched.

4. You have to capture the hearts and minds of the community.

Guardian, you all had a lot to be proud of with the old Wars. It was never just me or HAUNT.

The best chance the Wars have for balance is the next expansion, when your blue toons can be bad guys, it allows for a total spread on both sides. It also takes care of the "lol villian" realities that dogged us, because of game mechanics.

The expansion might take care of everything that makes the current issues. If you guys and girls really want it to happen, that might make the best time to make it last for a year or years.

/salute

Thx for chiming in lay. With the current pvp system in place, i have major doubts that any large scale zone event would even be fun for a seasoned pvp player. And any new players would just get steam rolled untell they never come back again. I dont know if you have tried pvp 2.0 laylyn but if theres any differance in numbers, the side with the most will definatly win even more so than before. If you ever went to any of the lvl 5 pvp events, thats what it feels like now. Im pretty happy to say i dont give a rats azz about this silly pvp anymore, and theres no such thing as a fair fight lol. Guardian Wars would only discourage the new pvp crowd we currently have (gutless drone huggers) even more than before lol. Marshal if you want in on some real pvp balanced for large scale battles, id suggest getting team fortress 2. Thats the pinnacle of player vs player in its purest form.

Hi all.

SC, so what's the 2.0 change in math? You implied a mass simplification of base amounts. How does that work?

Posted

lol you been on guardian lately? Or even a pvp zone on any server in coh? Im the wrong person to put 2.0 changes in math for you, but it certainly dont take a rocket scientist or a mathematician to tell you cox pvp sucks now lol. Dont take that as being rude. Im pretty shure the original "Guardian Wars" will remain the alltime largest zone pvp event ever in the past or the future of this game. Unless they roll it back to i12 pvp i dont see anything of that scale (gw) ever working.

PVP Revamp

PvP combat has been completely revamped in this issue, in an attempt to make it more fun for all ATs and builds. Please note that these changes only take effect in PvP situations; these changes have no effect on PvE. Here are a summary of the major changes:

The damage of all attacks has been refigured. Basically, the longer the activation/animation time of an attack power, the more damage the power is going to do. There are adjustments for recharge time and Endurance cost, but the actual time the power takes up in an attack chain is the primary consideration.

In general, the base damage of all Archetypes has been increased in PvP zones and Arenas. The Containment bonus for Controllers in PvP has been reduced because of their higher base damage.

Being hit by an attack triggers movement suppression, just as making an attack does. Suppression for being hit by an attack is always the same duration. Any power with a negative impact on the target (including all debuff powers) is considered an attack.

Note that Teleport powers are completely disabled when suppressed.

Healing powers also trigger suppression.

The greater the base range of an attack, the longer the suppression for the attacker.

Teleport Foe and related powers in Gravity Control and Warshade powersets now grant 3/4 of a second "untouchable" flag on the target.

Resistance and defense powers have greater diminishing returns when stacked than in PvE, and lower caps.
Healing powers suffer from diminishing returns when several are used in a short period of time.

All Archetypes (except Tankers and Masterminds) have some default resistances to all attacks in PVP.

Unlike in PvE, defensive toggles do not suppress when you are held/stunned. This means that not only do the toggles not drop, they continue to grant defenses while the player is held/stunned.

Melee classes gain extra resistances to all debuffs and to movement slows. These bonuses are linked to the power in each set that gives status protection (Unyielding Stance, Wet Ice, Plasma Shield, etc.).

"Buffing" Archetypes (Defenders, Controllers, Corruptors, Dominators and Masterminds) have less ability to benefit from all buffing powers than other ATs (the powers have less effect on them, and their caps are lower).

Melee ATs gain more benefit from buffing powers than other Archetypes (the powers have greater effect on them, and their caps are higher).

Defeating enemies in PvP can award Influence/Infamy, Inspirations, and rarely Salvage, but no XP.

In general, there is no such thing as Status Protection in PvP, only Resistance. The exception is Knockback protection, since Knockback is a binary effect. The base durations of status effects are greatly reduced in PvP (generally 4 seconds for Controllers and Dominators, 2 seconds for all other Archetypes).

I got that from the I13 patch notes, rest is here.....

There is more in other patch notes too I believe

It looks interesting. I'll do some playtesting on freedom sometime soon to get a feel for how these things are a playstyle change. Movement surpression will be a huge change to the old arena playstyle and I read there was a base 40% resistance buff to squishes. That's a heavy dynamic switch.

Thanks for the info SC and MN. =)

laylyn, you'll probably puke when u experience pvp in its current form, all it is now is just spike. the easiest way i can describe pvp right now is that its basically had a rectal hysterectomy, but the dev's reached up higher and stole pvp's soul instead.
